    Great video. Been painting and tying for 35 years. Best switch was powder paint using their fluid bed. I paint a 3 or 4 color jig in seconds using the Badger spray bottles from Protech powder paint. By heating in a toaster oven before painting, you can paint a dozen jigs in less than 15 minutes using the fluid bed. Did a video for Do-it Molds last year showing how to paint multicolor jigs. Live in Fond du Lac WI, pouring jigs all winter. Thanks again for great video, at 75, never to old to learn. Have a safe 2022. Guy Jensen👍

    Great looking tie. I'll have to give those colors a go. That's a good finishing knot, I've seen a few tiers use it. I think it's still called a "whip", and the same knot used in rod building. Thanks and tight lines.

      I learned that finish from building rods. I started that before I started tackle crafting. I’ll lose my jig to the river bottom before that thing ever comes apart!

    Awesome tutorial. That color would be the best up here on the western end of Lake Erie during the pre-spawn / spawn. Since the water is normally muddy with less than 1-foot visibility, darker colors stand out the best. Purple, JD green, and black main head/body colors are the ticket. The brighter accent colors also play a role in helping the walleye spot the contrast and helps trigger them into striking. I'm ready to get some fly-tying tools so I can tie some. Is that a homemade vise? It's a nice study one. Thanks for posting.

    That is a whip finish method you used, just like one using a whip finish tool or your fingers. This whip finish method is used to prevent ropes from unraveling and is the same method used to attach eyes on fishing rods. Liked your video.

    • @fishingthe262
      @fishingthe262  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I didn’t know what is called, I just knew it from building rods….all I know is for me personally it’s easier than that tool….lol

  • @Steve-rr3gc

    Very nice technique. Quick question- why did you use the lighter color on top? Most jigs I’ve seen use light on bottom. Most fish, things fish eat are lighter on the bottom

    • @fishingthe262
      @fishingthe262  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The chartreuse is on what would be the “belly” of the jig. If you look again you’ll see it is opposite of the line tie.

    • @fishingthe262
      @fishingthe262  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      No wrong way way to fish it. Drag it, hop it, snap jig it, vertical jig it. You can tip it with a minnow or a piece of gulp if they’re finicky. I usually start without bait though.

    How tight do you rap the thread around the jig to hold the tail?

    • @fishingthe262
      @fishingthe262  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I use 210 denier flat wax thread, the first couple wraps are fairly loose to get the hair where I want it, after that I wrap pretty tight. It’s hard to explain, it’s more of a feel thing. Give it a go and you’ll see what I mean.

    what really getting me guys want to use braid to fish with an they cant break it an it gets all tangled up in my jigs i have pull just so much pile of line were guys keep cutting line cause they cant break it

    • @fishingthe262
      @fishingthe262  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I use braid for my main line because the thinner diameter cuts through the current better, but the fluorocarbon leader will always break first in the event of a snag.

    • @jackmasters9953
      @jackmasters9953 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It’s because no one ever showed them how. Point rod at the snag, apply hand/finger pressure on the spool so it can’t move. The leader will break or if tied directly, the knot at the jig. Simple. NEVER, EVER WRAP BRAID AROUND YOUR HAND OR FINGERS AND TRY AND BREAK THE LINE. Braid can be very dangerous. Sounds crazy but it’s true. Nice tie. I use the same color combo in the Detroit river. Favorite is pink accent instead of chartreuse. White is a killer color also :-) :-). Tight lines Tubers 🎣🎣😃😃

    • @fishingthe262
      @fishingthe262  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You can paint them on if you want, but it’s completely unnecessary. When the current is flowing hard on the Mississippi River they don’t get that close of a look at the jig. The water is too fast and too dirty for it to matter.
