I agree 100%. I demo'd this amp and actually MUCH prefer it's overall tones as well as usable volume levels vs my 50w JCM 800. This little Plexi is so touch sensitive & dynamic, and much easier to get sweet, clean tones. The only way my JCM 800 could even touch the tones & dynamics this little Plexi does, is by setting the 800 way too loud. By the time I back my master volume down on my 800 to acceptable levels for small club gigs, it loses most of it's headroom. But the SV20 has it covered very nicely. Oh how I wish they made this amp available back in my gigging days. I retired from the club scene here in east/central Florida back in '02. I keep telling guys, the SV20 ain't no "bedroom/practice amp", it's a true work horse. It's loud as hell & can get you evicted from your apt, lol.
@@woodendoors9532 I know all about attenuators, and the Fryette attenuators are perhaps the best on the market today. But years ago when I gigged professionally, there were only a couple really decent attenuators, and they were expensive as hell BACK THEN. I made decent money with my own small business, but I was not debt free, plus I had to pay child support for 3 kids. I really couldn't afford a good attenuator back then. If I were to buy an SV20 amp today, I would definitely buy a Fryette PS-2 to go along with it.The Fryette PS-2 is around $699 I believe, but it's well worth the cost. I don't make the money I used to, but the kids are all grown and I am debt free. That's my story and I'm sticking to it......lol.
Great demo and thanks for sharing your setup! For other tone geeks out there, we have linked to your vid and documented your chain on our new guitar site. Hope that's ok! 😉
Sounds great!! I think I’m going to get this amp for club, bar type gigs. I’m assuming it will be loud enough? Also have you tried modulation effects like delay and flanger in front of the amp instead of in the effects loop? That’s what I do on my JTM45 and it sounds amazing. Thanks
Reagan Browne I haven’t tried it in a live situation yet, but I find it to be extremely loud for its size and portability - and a lot of users around the Internet have similar impressions. If anything, I’m thinking I would need to use an attenuator of some kind with it. I put any time-based effects through the loop... only boosts and dirt pedals go through the front end.
It was one of the best-sounding amps I’ve ever played through… I did sell it, because frankly it’s too much amp for my needs (I don’t really gig anymore). But I do miss it terribly,
By far, your demo is the best on TH-cam! That is the truest representation of what a Marshall plexi sounds like.
The amp comes alive when you get it turned up, I can’t wait to get a les Paul again so I can hear it in that context. Nice demo man! Cheers!
That neck pickup is dope

Upgrades to the guitar include Mojotone ‘59 clone pickups, 50s wiring and Gibson ABR bridge... plus of course, the pickguard and knobs
Sounds great. Could you tell me if it's the regular output version or low output version of the 59 clones?
Thank you in advance.
@@laumortensen7472 The regular ones
@@GeneMThompson Thank you for the reply. I will have to try them out....
Love (and that) is all you need.
Great demo and great review! I just bought one of these and it is a very loud amp! Your video sounds just like my amp.

Playing starts at around 1:50
Do u still have the amp??? and what are your thoughts four years removed????

@@GeneMThompson thanks…

@@GeneMThompson sounds great. most of my amps have 10 inch speakers.
