Fact is that it’s not about drunken Brits the resentment is that rich Northern Europeans are block renting large swathes of available properties, out pricing many of the the locals. I go to Tenerife regularly and I see it all the time. its normal to see all European nations working on laptops in local bars, for hours on end, drinking only one coffee using the Wi-Fi, yet getting paid big bucks from back home. No wonder the posters say “ Tourist go home” not “Brits go home” In fact the bars and restaurants rely on people who spend and go not sit and stay with a bottle of water for two three hours, then go, having overstayed their welcome.
No there are signs up currently saying go home Brit’s. Seems the locals prefer tourists from other countries that are less loud mouth drunks that only spend money in the bars with British names on them.
The behaviour of a lot of Brits abroad is just embarrassing. I don’t blame them for wanting them out. It isn’t fair to tarnish us all but there are so many who give us a bad name.
My friend got so drunk on the ferry from Melbourne he has no memory of visiting Tasmania at all! My question is, why bother to travel at all when it’s far cheaper to get shit-faced at home.
There is different ways of being drunk. But the Brits just gang up . Usually 10 - 20 people. And they just basically dominant the bar they decided to settle down inn. Loud, dancing and somersault from tables. It's like watching a combination of circus and freak show. And the time is like 13:00 hour. Way to drunk way to early. But it's entertaining:-) We Norwegian also have repetition for heavy drinking on holiday . But the British are in their own league. :-)
Having seen the British first hand, I’m really not surprised. Many of them are a total embarrassment. Bad behaviour, swearing, drinking to excess and a dress code which beggars belief. These places need to raise their prices to deter them. Let them go to Blackpool instead.
So they would rather have a few people who only spend 50 Euro's a night than hundreds people who spend 100 Euros a night as that will mean thousands of lost jobs and hotels closing down if all the Brits stayed away from Tenerife
That’s the point, they want to replace the loud Brit scene that’s set up in Tenerife, more to life than the local buisness man making a killing whilst the rest of the community have to deal with drunken Brits all years round
They would rather have families that will consume more evenly across different establishments rather than focus on individuals spending most in bars/pubs.
FFS this stereotyping is unbelievable, millions of Brits holiday in the Canaries without any problems, they'd soon be moaning once the tourism money dried up. If you don't want us get your Government to say it officially and we'll vote with our flip flops and spend our cash elsewhere.

@gungadin1389 it's because we brits live on a damp wet rock where the sun barely shines, that's why we seek to be crispy fried and dehydrated in the sun on a tinder box for medication
Spaniards aren't visiting Britain to appreciate the culture and history so why are you surprised brits aren't visiting Spain for such? The transaction is Brits have money, Spain happens to be a little closer to the equator. Spain has happily cashed in on that. And places like Tenerife resorts are soulless. Just high-rise hotel upon hotel, no character. What's there to appreciate? I visited Tenerife on a geological fieldtrip to Teide. Depressing place. I am not surprised it attracts these kinds of unfavourable characters. Maybe the demographic of German Tenerife receives is better than the demographic of Brits, because higher class brits are not going to Tenerife in the first place, lmao.
‘WE’, don’t do that, it’s a certain class of Brit that does that. They do it because what is on offer it’s cheap and cheerful. If Tenerife want to attract a better class of customer they should provide a better class of hospitality in the popular parts.
The residents of Whitby, North Yorkshire and other seaside towns, have exactly the same problem, due to a housing shortage. Homes that used to be available for them to rent, are now rented to visitors at much higher prices. The local government has done nothing to prevent this and is only now starting to try and do something about it. As is required in the Canary Isles and other Spanish Isles.
I work in travel, holidays and tourism etc, Most Brits on holiday spend on average a week in Spanish resorts and go straight home again. They are only there for short sunshine breaks. The real family holidays destinations (2-3 weeks) are in Florida, Mexico Caribbean, Australia, Thailand and Dubai.
My girlfriend and I (2005 ) went to Grand Canaria for a holiday. It was terrible. I have never been so embarrassed to be English. Could not wait to leave.
Overtourism is a problem in many places, so these places are looking for ways to bring down the number of tourists. They could discourage people to spend their holidays there. But they do want to keep the money. So the best thing to do is to discourage the tourists you can do without, meaning the Brits. This wil lower the numbers but raising the (average) standard. Same is happening in other places, e.g. Amsterdam. They too want drunken Brits to stay away.
If they don want the Brits then why do they go out of their way to attract the stereotypical Brit with the bars and clubs? I had breakfast at a restaurant in Tenerife only to be joined by a German family who ordered a full English with a litre of beer all at 9.30am - classy eh?
So a hearty breakfast and a litre of beer between a family.. probably 3 plus, so less than a half pint each and a solid breakfast, and apparently that is something to snob over? Your comment says FAR more about you than that german family my friend. 🤦♂️

It’s not just about the Canaries and it’s not just about tourists, the problem goes way deeper than that. It’s about our own society that produces people who are like that. We have been cited as the most socially divided country in Europe, with a relatively deprived “underclass” that is educationally and aspirationally disadvantaged. It is a cyclic legacy of the old class system which is perpetuated by those at the other end of the food chain, who benefit from it.
@@capitalm1257 Agreed, not exclusively; but the image and type of behaviour we are talking about here is largely the result of a background and upbringing lacking in certain basic values, social responsibility and self awareness both at home and in the classroom. It is also fuelled by alcohol which again leads back to the same root cause; many Brits drink excessively as part of a culture where it is considered essential to enjoyment, which stems from a lifestyle in which it provides an instant release from a routine that often offers them little else. And the children of this group will be born into the same situation, and so on. It's an extremely difficult cycle to break especially when it is so well established in our society and is also highly sensitive as it begins with the home environment people are born into.
So we get red faces ...detail ,at the beginning then we go tanned. If we go to English speaking places, well so do they in Britain. Stop bashing your own nation ,ffs!
That is a bad rap, most Brits are respectful and our money keeps their country afloat. When it dawns on them no British tourists means no British money and that means most of their businesses will close down and services will be reduced. Seems it's only them as all the other countries love us. Still when Tenerife is on benefits this winter they won't be smiling. Germans don't half as much as us.
@@lindacurrie8817 Oh please, it is only the Spanish that have a problem with us. They've always sucked up to the German's and that's because they tip more than us. But we pump more money into their country during our stays and as a rule are better behaved than most. So don't say it isn't about money. If they want to play it that way then fine, Spain is over priced, dirty and overhyped for what it is. You can have a nicer holiday for less money and less lip. Greece for example has nicer food, better prices, better beer, more polite people and a rich history. Plus the beaches are cleaner and you still get to enjoy the sun. So if they want it that way then fine, we'll take our money elsewhere.
One problem for Tenerife is going to be that a lot of the accommodation there is only fit for tourists on a budget. More discerning tourists aren't going to spend £100+ per night to stay in a concrete box

No wonder the posters say “ Tourist go home” not “Brits go home”
In fact the bars and restaurants rely on people who spend and go not sit and stay with a bottle of water for two three hours, then go, having overstayed their welcome.

Spaniards aren't visiting Britain to appreciate the culture and history so why are you surprised brits aren't visiting Spain for such? Just high-rise hotel upon hotel, no character. What's there to appreciate? I visited Tenerife on a geological fieldtrip to Teide. Depressing place. The residents of Whitby, North Yorkshire and other seaside towns, have exactly the same problem, due to a housing shortage. Overtourism is a problem in many places, so these places are looking for ways to bring down the number of tourists. They could discourage people to spend their holidays there. We have been cited as the most socially divided country in Europe, with a relatively deprived “underclass” that is educationally and aspirationally disadvantaged. It is a cyclic legacy of the old class system which is perpetuated by those at the other end of the food chain, who benefit from it.
Except it is not underclass only
@@capitalm1257 Agreed, not exclusively; but the image and type of behaviour we are talking about here is largely the result of a background and upbringing lacking in certain basic values, social responsibility and self awareness both at home and in the classroom.
