    My first car was a 1966 Imp I obtained in 1979 - wish I'd kept it now, along with some of my other earlier cars!

    Lovely. My mum had one of these in the late 60's early 70's. I loved it 'and' my Nan's 'Stiletto' Beautiful bit of welding on the passenger side door holding the window frame to the door body. It looks like a bit of old chewing gum pressed on there and painted over!

    My first new car PGF 879L bought through Nato cars in 1973, was a nice
    car for the time I thought. Nice to see in this day and age of very
    Technical machines.

    My dad had a burgundy one and it was an interesting ride. It used to overheat climbing hills on the motorway and because my sister and I were in the back the seats used to get rather hot indeed. It was fine going down the hills but my sister and I had a sinking feeling when another hill loomed into view.

    well it had an overheating problem, but i think its way ahead of its time for the simple fact that the door bins can actually hold a bottle of water!

    didn't these have the Coventry Climax engine?

    • @gimble8638
      @gimble8638 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      to answer your question ant man yes, keep meaning to get round to restoring a fire pump i have speaking of which

    • @Replevideo
      @Replevideo 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, but the Coventry Climax was an engine designed to drive the water pump on a fire engine. Coventry Climax was a brand name. The race car engine was a V8 using the design features of the fire pump engine because of its high efficiency, but otherwise not related.

    • @gimble8638
      @gimble8638 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      the scottish workforce caused no more problems than the striking masses in the midllands at the time, the steel which was from a scottish foundry (2 miles from linwood which was the deciding factor in linwoods location) had a very high iron content which made it far better than what vauxhall and bl were using) the construction of the shells were faultless as welding and steel workwas much of the workforces "thing"(shells are still unbeleivably strong compared to others of the era) engine blocks were cast also in scotland (along with heads and gearbox casings etc too) then sent to coventry to be assembled then sent back to linwood, in short rootes made a logistical nightmare for themselves and altho its a falecy i dont believe in myself as ive never had an engine overheat personally) overheating etc is a design flaw not a build flaw, so in short to say scotland ruined the imp is not only racist but entirely laughable and reflects badly on only yourself ( i still to this day have an imp identical colour to this one and a hartwell stilleto) kind regards from up in Aberdeen :)

    • @taketimeout2share
      @taketimeout2share 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@gimble8638 Then I am an ignorant racist then. You would have thought they could have run with the ball when it was given to them so generously. Rootes never wanted it up there, or didnt you know that? It was a Political decision to understandably compensate for the closures in the Ship Building Industry. The English part of Rootes ruined themselves so I guess I am racist against the English too. I tell it as it is. We (the English) have only ourselves to blame for everything. I guess that's racist too, but I just see, and tell it, as it is.
      I guess you are a "person without frontiers," a "United Colorist of Beneton", or such like ? We all make our own beds, no one else.
      Sir.

    • @gimble8638
      @gimble8638 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      rootes as you said did it for no other reason than what you have said, i completely agree,rootes were given MASSIVE government grants the failure was in development and build cost, not solely that of scotland, which is why your comment was an utter joke, if i had said coventry put out an under developed product and the scottish had no way of making it work then your comment would be fair, but i havnt, IT YOU who blamed SCOTLAND ALONE in your initial comment (which obviously is what spurred me to comment) for the short comings of the car, not me, just remember that :) enjoy your weekend :)

      my hartwell stilleto has only 24k miles from new and head never been off so far :p so who knows tho il also add my super thats even same colour as this has 58k and head never been off, before you ask ive owned them both a very long time (since quite new)

    • @Replevideo
      @Replevideo 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@gimble8638 Don't worry. The ultimate cure for Imp blown head gaskets is to fit the Stilleto head gasket. It is a better gasket and you should not have that problem.

    wow what a terrible vid, ooh look ive red socks, ooh look at me ponder with bad hand acting while i debate which 8 track lol, sure no one in 30k miles wore shoes in that car psml and ohhh look aftermarket badly fitted audio with a terribly fitted aerial, common man it a nice enuf car no need to cheapen it with over acted bs, it is what it is, take that as a lesson in future from a guy who has proper low mileage unmolested classics :) ps it had beautiful latch (not pin) drop on the passenger side and upspring on the drivers, thats usually a sign of twist, tho they had that from new often, learn what your selling man (lucky you sold it tbh) and i dont think ive ever seen such bad trim warp on cars that have even 80k and 35 yrs abandoned outside in a feild as that has,was still a great buy to someone tho, just hope they didnt pay too much :) :) drivers seat says way more than recorded mileage tbh, those seats usually bow tight till 70k
