When Bill died he spoke in backwards speech “Axolotl! My time has come to burn! I invoke the ancient power so that I may return!” The Axolotl is a deity (who is also a gigantic Axolotl) that has been teased in the show and expanded material reveals that he is the top god of the multiverse. The Book of Bill reveals that by invoking the Axolotl’s name Bill was granted an audience with him to make a deal were Bill would come back to life. Bill had to undergo a trial and he thought it would be combat but instead the Axolotl sent him to a place called the Theraprism. The theraprism is where many dead villains are sent to receive what they need (The Core from Amphibia was even sent there) therapy and once complete they will be reincarnated as something less powerful, Axolotl is hoping Bill will become a newt. Since Bill is incapable of admitting his own wrongs he is now committing himself to a self-inflicted Hell. The Book of Bill reveals that Bill was an outcast in his home dimension of Euclydia because he had a rare mutation that allowed him to perceive the 3rd dimension. He tried to get his people to see it as well but he ended up destroying Euclydia. Despite his claims that he “liberated” it he is haunted by what he did.
Fun fact: Dipper was originally supposed to kill Dippy Fresh. In the storyboards Dippy Fresh says "Your hat is backwards", to which Dipper replies with "Your head is backwards!" and snaps Dippy Fresh's neck💀 You can find a video of the storyboards on youtube lol Also, Bill's backwards "death" message: A-X-O-L-O-T-L, my time has come to burn! I invoke the ancient power that I may return! Also also, the "real" Bill at the end was a clue for the beginning of Cipher hunt, which took place from July-August 2016. The goal was to find the real statue of Bill. clues such as ciphers, puzzle boxes, and USB drives were hidden around the world, including Japan, Russia, and USA. Buried at the foot of the statue was a box that contained a special edition of Journal 3 with extra drawings by Alex Hirsch and a black light. Other things that could be found in the box were plastic coins and gems, Russian and Japanese currency, plastic crown and a sash that say "Mayor of Gravity Falls," a music box with Bill's eye that plays the Gravity Falls theme song, a miniature Bill statue, a framed sketch of the main characters and the statue, and a USB drive etc.
