I was fully expecting to hate this couple, but they clearly did love their dogs and wanted them to be happy and well-adjusted - and good on them for taking on a rescue dog like Harley in the first place. They really listened to what Victoria had to say and they followed through with all the training and advice, and although Rick was annoying at first, he totally accepted that he was wrong and made an effort to put things right.
They need a good balanced trainer (not a positive only trainer) that would put an end to this in minutes. Enough of the dog's BS. It amazes me that they drag this out into an episode. This is SO simple for a balanced dog trainer to resolve and VERY VERY quickly.

Let’s be clear here, OK? The wife was straight up NO to another dog. Nonetheless, the Dude doesn’t respect her NO and under the ridiculous story of “wanting my family to be happy” (para) he dismissed her input completely for what HE wanted. *This was such an overt behavioral disrespect towards her and his feeble attempt at pretending he WANTED what was “best for his family” is a transparent farce.*
Mute the sound: Watch the behavior. Notice who is doing most of the work: The wife. I’d keep the dog who can be trained and send Dude to the animal shelter.

It's for TV, what did you expect. All TV programs start out bad and then suddenly! everyone conforms. Hoarders is one great example of this.
Made me sad when Victoria asked if the wife had enough time to grieve. I lost my first dog a couple of years back, and she was my life. I got my current dog just over a month later. I love my dog to pieces but I think I should've given myself more time to grieve for my first dog
❤ I lost mine suddenly a few weeks ago. Two weeks after getting a puppy to keep her company and she loved the pup.

@@manifestingcocreator3221 I'm so sorry for your loss. As well as my dog I have a hamster. She's almost 2 and I know she doesn't have too much longer left (she's healthy and lively but probably won't live for more than a year being a hamster). Any any pet is hard to lose
@@katiesimpson8517 thanks :) and I'm sorry for your loss. It takes a long time to recover losing them. I love the dog I have now to bits, it's just not the same. My mum has many dogs and tells me, that although she loved them, it would never feel the same as when she had her first dog

Great Danes need 4+ hours walk daily. Ours got walks half hour to school and back and again on pickup and before bed and in the day. They can go 8 hours with out the loo remember when we’re asleep but they shouldn’t be left for any longer. It’s good to get a Walker to take them atleast once while your at work
@X Dr don’t get a Great Dane then. There’s alternatives. Like playing in a yard or letting them swim. But regardless what do you expect…. It’s a very high energy dog ☠️
@@avenger8399 My Dane is good for 8 hours but that is at night when we are home with him. You have to get in tune with his poop times.

The dogs were ‘made’ to drink from the loo! No thought or regard for inflicting the nasty toxins (to put it mildly) from the many humans evacuating into it…and all through Covid. Don’t tell me you love the dogs when that’s how you treat them.
All that guy was thinking of was self promotion…he was controlling his family via the dog. The quieter dog has been completely sidelined as she had lost her position when the guy got his new ‘bargaining’ tool.His change of attitude was a complete put on….seen it a thousand times.

I love how the daughter was genuinely confused, surprised, and delighted that the dane was able to follow a command. Lol
100% for positive reward training, love Victoria she is an amazing trainer.
Just remember, positive reward isn't only treats. Positive reward can be verbal, physical or toy reward. This episode is awesome!
The dog on the bed "Oh just one night" is EXACTLY how my mom got stuck sharing a bed with my dad AND our great dane in this house. "Well when he gets bigger we'll stop letting him up." Doesn't work that way very well when the dog weighs as much as you do. Great Danes are amazing breeds, but you have to teach them manners and really make sure they know what is and isn't okay because they're so big that all their actions can be scary to others, and dangerous. Our Great Dane has spent most of his life almost never dealing with visitors because so much of his early life was during COVID that now we have to keep him in other rooms when we have multiple people over or he'll never stop barking. It can be so difficult to train a dog like a Dane when they get bigger but it's so important
Not to mention, no matter how comfortable I am with dogs (and I've lived around them my entire life), if a dog snaps at you the way Harley snapped at people because of the bed, I would be backing away and finding someone to help with that immediately. Because that's such a dangerous position to be in, and the dog is warning you that this is HIS bed, regardless of whether YOU think that's the case or not.
Don't forget if you're in the UK Victoria is looking for new people and dogs for the next series. Covid lockdown caused so much long term problems for so many, human and animal 🙁
I got my large dog to give me my bed back by getting him a better bed. Big Barker. It was expensive but so worth it

Just remember that that it is never too late to train ^.^ Even if you walk your dog, a simple sit for a greeting on the street with neighbours wearing a mask is still a sit to greet someone. Don't give up on training : ) Dogs or are more capable to learn and adapt to situations than even people are ! Good luck with training : )
Ohh I thought Rick was a right pillock at first but my goodness he redeemed himself! It was wonderful to nó longer see the stress in his wifes face and he also looked so relaxed at the end of it. Both dogs were so much happier and relaxed, what a really wonderful outcome ❤️

Dog's are a lot smarter than people give them credit for. Harley calmed down the second he realised that he wasn't the one in control and the second Rick stopped encouraging his bad behaviour. They are like children if you teach them that they can get away with bad behaviour then they will behave badly. Inside every misbehaving dog is a good dog waiting to shine through.

Dogs need to feel safe, if their humans don't act like they are in control, they don't feel safe. The dogs don't feel safe, so they need to try to be in control. This leads to problems, you can love your animal without being weak. Discipline is not cruel it is part of being a good pet parent. I've had both dogs and cats, and people are always amazed that my cats listen to me, but an animal responds to you when they know it is in their best interest.

It used to boggle my mind how people failed their dogs so completely, but I had to seriously readjust my thinking. Not everyone is a natural dog owner/trainer. All skills are learned and this is one of them. Well done Harleys humans!!
My toxic trait is that if I watch too much of these vids, and if one day I will get a dog, my dog would be sooo well-trained.. Lol!

The husband has that "I gotta fix it" mentality... He saw a "problem" of Abbie feeling sad/depressed because she was missing her buddy and his wife was grieving the loss of their dog too and the husband's "I gotta fix it" mentality kicked in and was like "everyone was happy when we had two dogs, now we have one dog and everyone is sad... I have to fix them... We should get another dog so everyone can go back to being happy with two dogs." It was like... in his mind two dogs=happy family, one dog=sad family... so the "solution" was to get a new dog so that two dogs could equal happy family again.
His heart was in the right place, but his logic was built on a false assumption/correlation.
If the dog won't leave food alone then don't let it in the kitchen especially when preparing food. When you have guest put the dog in the yard or in a room while snacks are out. My mom used to have to put her dogs outside when she had people over because they would bother guest for snacks. Over time they learned if they bother they aren't allowed to be with everyone having fun. If they behave they can have their treats and hang out.
It’s very sweet the way Jodi smiled at Rick when he apologized and they made up. You can tell they really love and respect each other. They’re just having a misunderstanding about the dog. They’ll be fine!
I don't think it's a coincidence that the people who's dogs are out of control usually have a marriage that's in shambles and devoid of respect. But holy cannoli, they REALLY turned it around in the end. So good to see!
I love seeing Victoria train humans
She might be the only and the only good one between the positive reinforcing trainers around. At least she makes it clear, no dog on the bed. The others i met say it's no big deal if the dog does that, steals your food, and they don't take you seriousely when you speak of dog aggression in the house.

Victoria taught me so much by watching her shows. Things I never knew or ever thought of doing with a dog!!! She's such a big help, & such a beautiful person inside n out! I love how blunt but very nice!!!

Ah, the only one he was concerned with “making happy” was HIM. Not his wife. Not the young adult child. He knows how-wife told him very clearly NO, she did not want another dog. He ran right over her NO and did what *he wanted, not what she needed.* He hasn’t changed a damn thing except his tactics. This transparent excuse is nauseating and he should be called out on his manipulative, selfish behavior.
No, he's selfish. His wife told him explicitly that she wasn't ready for another dog and he went behind her back. She should have taken Harley back to the rescue and explained the situation.
If he genuinely believes that he didn’t know how even after his wife was very explicit with him and even told him exactly what to do and what not to do, I’m not sure what his problem is.

I'm glad to see positive training and rewards, good for everybody concerned. Very good thing they got this training before he starts to like the taste of blood. I notice Harley is still testing the boundaries by inching his way into the dining area.
I think his taking a dump close to daddy is still testing his training restriction. He's a lot like a teenager isn't he.

Great Danes are smart dogs a very trainable. They thrive on positive reinforcement. The hard part of training is training the owner/enabler. Good for Rick.
Omg Harley is adorable and I can see how spoiling him escalated after his arrival. I had a 55kgs malamute that I loved like a son and spoiled him but he did as he was told and had a wonderful personality IN THE HOUSE! However because of my soft approach he wasn’t good outside on walks if he saw another dog. Fear would go through me ( I’m 50kgs) that I might not be able to hold him - it was something we both endured for his eleven years. He liked all people but dogs....
However I’d have him back in a heartbeat - my soulmate. 💔
Harley is such a great dog! I am so glad that they adopted him from the shelter and I was really sad knowing about his terrible life before. They are a fantastic family and I wish them the best! 😊
It's nice to see someone else not crapping on him. Harley shouldn't be growling and stealing food, but he also shouldn't be vilified just because he wants something he didn't get earlier in life. He spent the majority of his life chained up outside on a cement patio, of course he's gonna wanna hog a nice soft bed. The only problem was they let him sleep on their bed while at the same time trying to move him, thereby giving mixed messages instead of letting him have his own bed all to himself.

Harley and Abby are so beautiful! God bless them both. Considering that Harley was treated so cruelly and chained outside all the time before this couple adopted him, he must feel like he's in heaven when he gets all comfy on their bed. He deserves a comfy bed of his own, as does Abby. One thing that concerned me, though, is how Victoria encouraged them to walk the dogs right in the middle of the street! That's so dangerous. I hope that was just for the show and not a regular thing. Rest in peace, gorgeous Apollo. I hope Abby's heart heals so she can be happy again.♥

Harley is adorable! None of his behaviors are his fault; he's never been trained. Rick needs to be made to understand that if Harley is not trained someone could be seriously injured and the authorities will sentence Harley to be put down.😢 Harley is just a BIG 3 year old who needs to be taught right and wrong.
This guy was as pleased as he could be showing off the dogs bad behaviour which he heartily encourages, And I’ll guarantee you 100% that he’ll go back to square one once Victoria and the camera crew have gone.

This is exactly how my male roommate is with MY DOG.. he's completely usurped control and with the dog and now sleeps in his bed, and is aggressive towards me now when I try and pet or discipline him, and my roommate has no regard for the training I'm desperately trying to train him with, but blames everything on me.. I feel like I've lost my dog, and I cry myself to sleep many nights.. I want to give up and just leave him with my roommate since he's taken to him anyways.. Ironically my puppy's name is Harley too 😍.. I love him and went thru so much to get him, but I feel it was all for nothing bc he hates me now, and I'm not getting the support I need to turn him around.. I don't know what to do and need help..
@@DivaDivine88 do you need to have a roommate ? Are you financially reliant on having a roommate or can you afford to live alone ? (I am not asking you to tell me about your finances, I am posing questions for you to consider ) If you are not, then I would suggest giving your roommate notice to leave or if you have moved in with them , then are you able to find your own place . If so that's the only way this will end . However if you are financially reliant on needing a roommate then have you actually sat down and laid it out to your roommate. That Harley is your dog and you would appreciate that he doesn't undermine you regards the dog , you can even suggest that he helps with the training but on your terms. If Harley is your dog you need to take charge of the situation, you need to tell your roommate exactly how you feel regards this matter. As I said by all means your roommate can help with the training BUT on YOUR terms not theirs, it's the only way to resolve it. I hope you manage to get the issue resolved so you can enjoy your dog.

Without Structure and Discipline, a dog will automatically assume it's the boss.... and trust me this is a very censored way to see it but it gets worse depending on the dog if they are not taught basic commands and boundaries as soon as it's in your home, whether that be a dog you adopted or a puppy. It's all fun and games till the "owner" has to pay big bucks or be forced to surrender there dog
I am a trainer too. Have worked with Danes. Love them. With gentle guidance they turn into great dogs

This is an awesome realistic dog training show and I am addicted to it. Victoria is an awesome dog trainer. A miracle worker who changes families lives and their dogs for goodness.
Why do people:
1 Get such large dogs when they have no clue
2 Allow the dog to run the household
3 Wait so long to get help

You don't know their entire marriage or his character from an episode of a TV show. A TV show that is edited to be dramatic for ratings, just like most shows. At the beginning of the video, my heart was touched by the loss of their dog first and foremost. Seeing their dog, who was depressed, missing the one it knew and cared for, was sad as well. I just wanted to do something, to cheer him up. The husband, not taking into account his families feelings into consideration was hard. He thought he was doing the right thing, however, through discovery of his own, he corrected himself and was able to connect with the feelings of his wife and daughter. Together with the advise and willingness of Victoria, they were able to work together and create a better productive environment with their new family member, who was able to make amazing changes. 💙🐾

I’m so suprised how quick the Great Danes learned it’s really impressive. They just need good training and postive reinforcement.
I love this couple! Jodi was so heartbroken in the beginning. Once Rick started listening to Victoria it was smooth training. The effort put into training was touching. Then when Rick surprised Jodi with flowers and dinner, I cried! He must be the second best husband in the world. (Mine is the best!😁) Great video!
"Are those Dogs or Horses? 150 lb. of misbehavior! So sorry for Abby's feeling depressed. Harley gets all the attention due to his behavior. Apollo must have been Abby's soul mate. Poor Harley was very mistreated. Poor Jody, due to Rick's not taking Harley's behavior seriously. Victoria made such a difference by teaching Harley, Rick, Abby and Jody rules. Such a wonderful change to a happy house for everyone.

I have two dogs and raised them the way I raised my now 22 year-old son, namely : love, discipline, boundaries, punishment. They're happy, loving and obedient. ❤

@@Me-mn4nw no. Just treat children like humans. Of course you "behave" when you fear beeing beaten. But that only raises liers and violent bully. Because the only thing you learn is to solve problems by violence. And you only try to avoid pain instead of learning. I'm happy, that we have scientist who discoverd what really works.

This was a very nice one! The guy is actually a pretty nice guy and caring towards animals and also for his wife. I was amazed he wanted to go above and beyond to please his wife once he knew how to manage his dog! But oh boy the Dane is huge lol 😅 and his poop is also super sized 😆 Hope the dog gets house trained soon and I’m happy to see the couple is happy with the dogs and with each other! Lovely couple with big kind hearts!
I adopted a 2 year old big dog, mix of cane corso and lab, there's a bit of boxer too. Nice manners but on the first 24 hours he showed he wanted to be in command. The moment he growled I turned and growled back as loud and mad as I could. Never growled at me again. And he's become best companion, learning orders fast, great guy!
All dogs deserve owners not all ppl need dogs

You should never say your dog doesn’t bite because yes they would given the chance.
I always tell people who ask “She might, she’s a dog.” She’s never bitten any human (has one bite count with dogs and we take proper precautions for that.)
Every dog has the potential to bite. No matter how sweet or gentle they may seem to be.
What about the other dog? Did she get more comfortable and/or engaged with the new one? We started off the episode learning that she was depressed after the previous dog died. No closure on my part 😢
Or her’s. *He inflicted* another dog on her despite her unequivocal NO to another dog.
