Have set my stop-watch set as to how long this excellent interview will survive the current climate of unfree speech. I expect its life will be even shorter on Facebook.
These guys are news/current affairs, so that’s where they are coming from. But if you are in television distribution, you can see the BBC is in catastrophic relative decline against global rivals and can’t survive on the UK-only licence fee. The national licence fee doesn’t generate enough revenue to buy the rights to the Olympics. Discovery bought the European rights and then sold a package limited to a max of two simultaneous live transmissions to the BBC, U.K. only. Attenborough made his last series for Netflix and the BBC bought just a U.K. rights licence, time limited, in a deal brokered by an Australian distributor. It can’t fund a drama series with the global reach, star casting and production values of The Crown or Game of Thrones. The BBC barely makes any self funded drama. Look at the end credits and you’ll see it’s a Amazon, Netflix or PBS co-production, the other party taking the worldwide distribution rights. The iPlayer was an open goal to switch to global subscription and become the world’s broadcaster. But the ridiculous obsession with the licence fee, a 100 year old funding model for radio, has prevented the BBC from being as big as Netflix, Amazon, HBO, Disney etc. in television. The result is it’s been left far behind and increasingly we won’t be watching it whatever its politics, bias or agenda is or isn’t.
It is relentless.. the only comical strand, is the BBC's inability to make a telephone connection while live on air. I am a 66 yoa engineer, who still goes to work every day with a box of spanners, I feel I'm one of the last, at the end of the lord mayor's parade. I still shout at the radio, in my van, regularly insenced at the BBC transmitting from some alien universe! The BBC is its own enemy, by refusing reform. Brilliant, compelling, and entertaining discussion. I could watch/listen to these two all day.
I am enjoying this video so far!! Unusual to see two men smoke a cigarette , in a room, even in Rod Liddle's own room!
When I moved in to my new build home the council hadn't got me registered yet to sort out my council tax, it still didn't even show up on google maps! But I still got a TV license letter on day 1. I decided to opt out.
Has the disaffection with the BBC started to be reflected amongst the prols? Absolutely, yes. We are cancelling our direct debits in the hundreds of thousands, if not in the millions.
Rod went to my local comprehensive and is my hero 🙌🙌
Why doesn't OFCOM ensure that impartial views are fully allowed??? We need other sides of stories to enable us to educate ourselves...For instance Climate Change where are the other scientific views discounting the alarmists??
OFCOM is (a very large) part of the problem.
It is as infested with left liberalism as every other quango or organ of the state. Even the anodyne sounding Electoral Commission is a hotbed of trots - just look at the malicious prosecution of Darren Grimes for proof of that
They are fully paid up members of "the message".
Best interview I have seen for many a year. Thank you very much!
You've got as much chance of reforming the BBC than you have of reforming the EU
A good & honest interview. Liddle appears to be an interesting person to meet and talk to.
Had an online debate with Ian Katz who was Newsnight editor, i said Newsnight was the worst of the biased corporation and he should be ashamed. He said he was allowed to do whatever he wanted because it wasnt a general election, the sheer arrogance and he has moved on to CH4 now still crapping on the public
I could listen to Rod all day.....and thanks to TH-cam, I often do.
Think what you want about Trump, But when he was elected and I had cashed out on Ladbrokes (£250), I flicked the tv on to BBC News. Their faces were worth more than my bet paid out.
You lucky, lucky sod.
The mark of these two men is that they can commend the BBC when they think it has done something right, and not just slate it and everything it does. 40 minutes of my time well spent, thankyou 👍
Great interview
Fascinating interview. Thank you
He needs to take more care of his health 🙏
I agree, love to listen to him, but he is a heart attack waiting to happen ....
Isn’t the point that he should have the freedom to choose whether to drink/smoke living in a democracy? I lead a very healthy lifestyle however I’ll defend your right not too, personal freedoms are EVERYTHING.
@@sunmoonstars3879 of course we can choose to live or die. I would defend to the death his right to choose.
What’s it got to do with you ?
@@tonywright8294 absolutely nothing
Very good interview , thank you 🙏
Should the BBC be overhauled or scrapped? In my view it should be SCRAPPED!!! dismantled and it's parts sold to the highest bidder. And also, the BRAND NAME """"BBC"""" should be illegal so as to stop anyone capitalizing on that brand name. It must be stamped out completely in it's entirety world service and all.
Brilliant interview. Love hearing Rod Liddle speak, he hits the nail on the head so many times.
Have set my stop-watch set as to how long this excellent interview will survive the current climate of unfree speech. I expect its life will be even shorter on Facebook.
Great interview.... completely nailed all the issues at and with the BBC
Would love to see a picture of Rod as a punk rocker . Interesting interview as always , Thankyou .
Very good interview by two good discoursers.
Thanks for your perspective - very illuminating.
You say it's been left far behind. True. Now it's just a far left behind.....
Excellent Podcast👍
Sorry Rod, there were voting irregularities.
Loved Rod's article in this week's The Spectator, excellent writing every single week in fact.
We need the BBC as a tool so save our British culture, our country, our history, but it has become our enemy.
Completely agree but other broadcasters are available.
Really enjoyable listening, so glad for chats like this 🤗
Great listen. You want to talk to a teacher today. You don't know the half of it.
I really enjoyed that chat with two very sensible chaps!! thank you :-)
13:32 W hat about the white working-class underdog? I've never seen the BBC identify or sympathize with this underdog.
Interesting channel. Good interview.
this is so interesting. I have freed myself from the left now, omg I didnt even appreciate how much conformity was required until I stopped wanting to be one of them. Go Rod hehhehheh
Excellent video 👍
Concerning the possibility of reform of the BBC, Rod says 'the next two years are crucial'. I'd say the past twenty-five years have been crucial and it's too late to save the wretched thing.
Brilliant interview! Thank you…
