Being an empath almost sucks. I can feel his sadness at around 11:12 so much I fought tears. I can only imagine how the band felt in 1987 when it happened.

It is always simply the non negotiable thing to do when interviewing Phil especially even if it is hard for him, and that is asking about the real genius of this band Steve. Steve penned most of the songs, his ability to construct harmonies, riffs, chords, bends and hook and his stage charisma strapped low was just special. A special factor that only a few people in the industry have had. Phil tells the story that he refused to attend his best mates funeral cos of the hanger ons all claiming to have known Steve bragging.
So he did not attend, this would've been such a monumental call from him.
It was years later, Phil was banked up in traffic on an LA free way and the Stones "I'm just waiting on a friend" came over the radio. And in that moment all the years of pain, pent up anger, frustration, the incalculable loss of his best mate who he just could not help, and gee he tried, they all did.
Phil just let it all out, all that pain. Steve's gift to Leppard one cannot put a price on, like the crown jewels. That the band still tour off his back catalogue is the gift Steve really left. He will never be imitated. He will always be The Riffmaster.

I just wonder how Hysteria would have sounded with Rick drumming traditionally. Don't get me wrong...I LOVE Hysteria and wouldn't change a thing. But curiosity has ahold of me. If Rick had not had the accident Hysteria would sound much different.

NdeeAnna I even wonder if the band would even still be together.

NdeeAnna Idk because due to Rick's accident helped give the motivation for Phil to not quit after Steve died.
