- CVA linked me this awesome screenshot: i.imgur.com/V31... from their fleet chat that day. It seems at least one of our Machs - who went half armour - was probably luckier than I realised, since some didn't shoot him because he was 'already back in the shield'.
On the general note of Provi (since I've noticed some people replying), I think it's one of the finest places in Eve and if I ever retire I'd happily consider tilling the fields there between answering calls for their regular, action packed fleets.

If only there was a recording of the CVA fleet's comms for the moment RnK opened fire. I can imagine the panicky voices of the fleet members while the FC tries to make sense of the situation.

I only played EVE for about 1, but that is not the point. Lord Maldoror undeniable has a great head for battlefield tactics. He certainly understands the power of a ruse and knows that it is important to have an edge when engaging an enemy. As well as the advantage that comes with striking quickly and with great force.
He has also shown that he is willing to listen to others.
Also I remember seeing a clip where there was some dissension in the ranks and he dealt with it brilliantly. Calm yet assertive and while providing inspiration to his team.
This may seem like a bit of a bro-love comment, but honestly I do not care. As a person who has great admiration for inspirational battlefield commanders, Lord Maldoror is honestly the first virtual commander whom I have seen show the qualities I admire in real life commanders.

Funny how assuming something turns into an illusion. I wonder if everybody tries to target something now inside the bubble before they believe what they see.
Claude Rains It wasn't likely the scouting party could do that before they left. Unless there's a ship in fleet that can lock on to targets that are 200km+ away, of course.

This is the greatest EVE thing I've ever seen: idk how I've missed out on it these last SEVEN YEARS. I laughed aloud for what felt like a year. Amazing.
4:35 "As is usually said of spoons, there is no..." is of course a Matrix reference. What I didn't realize until now, is that the ship shown as an example to the inability to lock from within the forcefield is... an Oracle! Just like the spoon sentence is said right before meeting The Oracle in the movie. Brilliant.
Also, another double meaning. The main corp in CVA is called The legion of the spoon.
Holy shit. I have yet to even play EVE, but this...This is the best use of stratagy I have ever seen in any MMO. Ever. Word cannot describe just how fucking genius that was.

EVE became boring with zerg strategies. RnK gave it a lot of fresh air... now we don't even have that anymore.
Would be fun to see them being creative like that, even if in other games.

Genius! I have had such tactical genius strike me in games from browsers like Ikariam to Civilization 3-5, nice to see it in Eve Online also ^^,
As ever, a real pleasure to watch. It looks effortless, but this game would give me apoplexy.

I don't play EVE. I was intrerested in it once, but after trying the trial I didn't want to play it. Watching your awesomeness makes me want to try it again :).
this is brilliant idea how ever not the first time it's been done smaller WH groups have done this and do this with offline small towers to get fights that they have no worries about getting swamped but still getting fights. Glad to see it used out side of the box for say. and great job as expected every one falls for it until now

I remember the evening after the events of this video. We (Provibloc) had formed up a ragtag fleet to hit that tower while you guys were asleep. I was there in my ratting Maelstrom. As we were hammering on the tower, you guys basically did a mass logon. At that same moment, I lost internet connection. By the time my internet came back the battle was over. I came online from 1,000,000 km away, warped in and bounced off that tower shield...and I was ALL ALONE...against your entire fleet, who, fortunately had all gone back into the bubble. I managed to align out to our friendly tower and warp away just as your first ships were getting clear of the shield and starting to lock me up. When I landed in the CVA tower, I was the only person there NOT in a pod! I was the luckiest Maelstrom pilot in all of Providence. (Maia Posidana)

They do, actually. It's a great way to quickly scan a system looking for offline towers. Count the towers, count the Force Fields, and if they don't match you probably have a dead tower somewhere.

The fake shield was needed in order to force a decisive engagement by offering up the vulnerable (and expensive Machariels), before which there was a standoff with the other fleet in its own tower. There's no doubt that our (RnK) fleet had a considerable advantage in EHP of hulls in a straight fight. On Eve True stories, in the comments a Provi FC mentions that only now the deception is fully revealed. It's more about that, than the fight itself.
have u ever tried screwing with fleets by lighting a cyno but not jumping anything in?

They would just warp to some distance or starburst and kill you from a distance.

thats not something you would think to look closely at until it was already too late, which is the whole point. the fc would just see the bubble and immediately assume it was the shield, without considering that it could be anything else which would warrant any more attention to it. until now that is

cva does not form 2 fleets of this size without having eyes on the target. they knew whats inside of the tower and they formed up to remove that tower knowing whats there to defend it.
they had enough dps available to at least test the r&k tank. i mean there was the chance to get a faction/officer fitted kill. who wouldnt sacrifice some atack battlecruisers to maybe get a killmail that can be a few bn isk worth.
I've been in 3 of those 5. I kinda know what I'm talking 'bout.

For sure though, the CVA fleet did not have a realistic chance of winning against the full fleet given the pos trick - the story is more about the false tower itself than an against-the-odds brawl.
I'd love to be able to download this and watch on my TV (like I do for Clarion Call 3). Would it be possible to have this video available for download, much like you have done for Clarion Call 3?

If you have your Overview set to show towers and shields both, then you're cluttering your view come fight time. And when you're focused on the ships and the upcoming fight, it's easy to assume a tower with a bubble around it is a tower with a bubble around it.
Hindsight is 20/20
