I have a 2013, 1025r and I’m stoked on the work I’ve accomplished, I’ve learned to start putting the brake on and putting in neutral before getting off. The rop folds completely down. As for your brake, adjust it and you won’t be able to take off. What I need to do is purchase a hydraulic harness put it together and set up the backhoe, oooh I have a big project for that one!!
I agree, I’m an orange tractor guy most of your complaints don’t exist on my Kubota Grand L6060 I enjoy your videos and appreciate the effort it takes to film, edit and upload videos. Keep them coming! -Brad
I agree with your comments on both the advantage of the loader attachment & the pain of the PTO switch. I also love the ease of removing the loader to mow
I have 600+ hrs on my 1025 R 4wd. Never been stuck. Except when my auger got buried to the hilt. Only complaint is cup holder is above the mower discharge and requires holding beer and drinking faster so it doesn’t get warm. GG
It's obvious you put thought into the pro's and con's. While I don't necessarily agree with all you've said I do respect your perspectives. Excellent video!
I agree with your comments. I changed my garage door for a taller one so I don't have to lower the safety bar all the time...I find removing the backhoe not very efficient: the hydraulic hoses are bit too short. I bought a set forks; I love them and highly recommend them... Overal I love my 1025 R. Thanks
I just came in for a late breakfast and noticed I have 17.6 hrs on mine; had .8 when I got it. I haven't noticed any of these dislikes, but I might as time goes on. It is assume how much work I've gotten done in 17 hours. Everything from ripping out blackberry brambles, moving logs, to digging water lines. Thanks for all of the videos.
I also agree with most of your likes and dislikes except: The parking brake: my first tractor was a John Deere GX335. It had the same parking brake. Guess I had already gotten used to it so I never had a problem except I use the 335 for cutting the lawn. The brake petal is on the right side. After spending so much time on the 1025r, I keep finding myself moving my left leg to press the break petal on the 335 😊 ROPS: I had to lower the ROPS to get into the garage too. This “hate” only lasted one day. In the 17 years operating the 335 on a very hilly property I never came close to rolling it over. So I removed the top part of the ROPS. When I build a garage with a higher door, I’ll put the ROPS back on.
My pet pet is that there is only one brake peddle. I know they turn shot but when your cutting around apple tree branches with my B2601 Kubota I can lock the brake and miss the branches. I had one brake on my X595 JD and know I need 2 brake peddles. Also the Kubota is a manual lever to apply the PTO. Without the electronic switch you don’t need a safety switch reverse button to push. Also my tractor can with valve stem protectors welded to the wheel, I tore two valve stems off on the JD while using the loader. The only thing I don’t like on the Kubota is no bucket level indicator like JD has.. thanks for the interesting video! Wayne from Wisconsin
I agree with your list and have 2 small complaints to add. I'm constantly having to turn off my hazard lights because my knee rubs against the light switch getting on the tractor and the work light by the loader control lever is always in the way when moving the lever in the dump direction. But still impressed by what my little " Green Machine " is capable of.
For me I had to with a Kubota BX. I like their ROPS better complete fold back, no mow in reverse switches to deal with, no electronic PTO, has a real fuel gauge in cluster, larger foot platform area and most of all a lot less polymer plastic parts. Yes, I know it will bend and it can rust but I've seen the polymer plastic ones break like potato chips with time and a lot of exposure to UV rays. Kubota tried that in the 50 series BX line and they just fell apart after a while. I do like some John Deere things better like the position control 3 point and twin touch HST pedals and the external HST trans fluid cooler but that's about it. That's what makes the world go around because we all don't like the same things. Have a Great Day and God Bless !
Great video. I'm thinking of buying a 1025. I had no idea the ROPS was slanted forward. That's not a deal breaker, but I can see where that would be irritating. To protect the noggin, try a pool noodle. Fasten it with several thick zip ties.
They did that to avoid the people using a back hoe to hit themselves on the rops each time the wanted to get up, because when you use the back hoe, you sit just under it. But the fact that it is just over 7 feet is a pain in the $#%&! I'm sure it would be as secure even if it was a little bit shorter... But hey... I'm not the engeneer that desing that rops... maybe they have a very good reason, because it piss of a lot of people... 😁 Have a great day to both of you! 😃
Bought my 1026r without loader after I built our home primary to mow with , money was tight , just bought the loader this spring and you are right , I use it for everything, can’t believe How much I use it !!
I agree with all of what your saying. I took the rops off the day it was delivered. I put it down and bent the toplink. I have a rops I built for a former tractor that has a canopy on it.
My first day with the 1025R and I made the rookie mistake with the ROPS. I tried to mow between a electrical pole and the suspension wire and caught the wire with the ROPS. Luckily I didn't drop the pole. But, NEVER AGAIN! I learned my lesson.
Wonderful share from your in-use experiences. Thank you! I have a JD riding lawn mower that uses the SAME seat shut-off system. It is a major hassle. I stand 6'4" with long arms, and I still cannot grab a branch on the ground from the seat without the engine shut-off engaging. I would DEFINITELY have that bypass trick with the zip-tie implemented on the 1025R if I owned one.
I had same problem so I mounted a blue harbor freight pickup tool with magnetic clip to loader arm. No more getting off tractor for sticks n branches. Also buy a spare cause sooner or later you will break the 1st one trying to grab something a little too heavy. Cost 2 bucks on sale
i agree with your list, 2 other dislikes i have is back lights, should be mounted on inside of roll bar to keep them out of harms way, when using mower,3 pt works with it, be nice if seperate, thank you
The main thing I hate about my John Deere 1025r model 2014 is the grease fitting that's right next to the flywheel is what I call it it's in the little hole that you can't see it I hate that grease fittings
Not a huge deal, but how many times has your left knee rolled the headlight switch, not only getting on or off the tractor , but just shifting your leg around while working? Have the exact same gripe with my 5075e (2017. Think the remedied that recently).
Love your videos. I learn more from you than anyone else. Thank you! I bought my 1025r because of the way it works for you. It's at the dealer right now getting an air ride seat put on it and that's my only dislike...I am a bigger guy and always bottom out the original seat. Keep up the great work and I will keep my eye on you...thanks again! I love my 1025r and really hope you keep yours for a little while longer...
@@ataleofthreecabins1025 I'm looking forward to getting it next week. The one I am getting is equipped with the Mauser Cab and bucket, blower as well as drive over autoconnect 54" deck. I was going to buy a bushhog as I'm using it at a small campground we have in Canada to clear the road (walkway) in the winter for the campers to be able to spend nice days up at the lake as well as cut the fields. The deal suggested that I could rent a bushhog anytime I wanted to cut the field which made sense, but i'm kind of concerned about the statement of the 3pt hitch being a limited Class 1...
im about to buy 1025 r I currently own quite a few gravely's but im with you on some of these safety things but that is because of all the people out here that don't know what they are doing the first things I will do is remove the ROPS and the seat safety switch but that is just me . I have been running loser tractor on hills and with overweight in the bucket and have yet to roll a tractor over.
I agree with raising up to see objects in the bucket or forks and the tractor shuts off, what a pain. My two favorite parts are the quick attachment bucket and size of cockpit with arm rest and being able to enter from both sides with ease with such a small tractor. I owned a BX23 and could only enter from one side easily.
Yes the PTO safety switch is obnoxious!! I wish John deere, or even a 3rd party manufacturer came out with a switch that you could insert a key into to would enable or disable the reverse safety function. I will be disabling it at some point. Just because of how our lawn is, we end up backing up a lot. Stupidly annoying. -I also hate that style parking brake. The new ones have a lever actuated parking break like manual cars had -the hood latch mechanism that requires the key is kinda annoying but not the worst thing in the world. -Oh, I also wish the power beyond hydraulics were more convenient to access. They’re not terrible. But you do have to bend down and get your hands in there. As for likes, love the build quality. Exactly what John Deere is known for. Heavy duty, rugged construction that will last, given proper care. -I LOVE how easy it is to mount and dismount the backhoe, loader, and autoconnect mower deck. Mower deck can be on and off in 30 seconds. I can have both the loader and backhoe off in 5 minutes, with most of the effort going to the backhoe. Mounting is easy but takes just a hair longer because of lining the backhoe up. But still can do it under 10 minutes (5 and 10 minutes respectively were both times for the first time doing those operations!) -the JDQA system for mounting loader attachments is great. I think I’d prefer a skid steer style system but I’m familiar with deeres system and have no issue with it. 1025R’s are a popular compact tractor and for good reason, they’re relatable and well built. Sure they have some minor issues but for what you get, they can be overlooked. Nothing is perfect. But it’s damn close.
I’m approaching the 50 hour mark on mine. When setting or releasing the parking brake, I am continually grabbing the cruise control handle instead of the parking brake handle. One of these days it may come off in my hand. Again its minor .....but still an annoyance.
Yep agreed on some dislikes, i have 2025r, the Brake dislike i totally agree on that, ROPs Yes my head still hurts. I rarely see that my tractor stops when i need to look at something.. i think might be 2025r sitting up higher i dont need to sit up too much.
So all your gripes are related to your ungainly size, agility, cordination. Excellent 150 Hr review. How are you and the machine doing now at 300 Hrs ❓
I like the larger tire on my 2025R. I would prefer your tool box to mine that is out front. The in fender tool box on my X738 is much better than 2025R. I also have issues with the brake release. Loader bucket and pallet fork are a must. I can also use a ball mount on the loader. Bottom line I enjoy both machines.
Ive been in the process for the past month of extending all of the tractor control levers as well as the backhoe & outrigger controls for easier reach for my personal operator performance preference. All control levers are being painted JD green & yellow & im also planning on adding reflective safety decals on the rear of the bachoe outriggers. I cant wait untill im all done. ive been off my tractor for round a month & i need my "tractor theropy!!!" I do not like the position of the parking brake slide lever nor its design & the same with the silly cruise control slide lever. my favorite tool is the H-120 loader. i wish at times it would raise a bit higher. i do wish the tractor had a bit more power, but overall, i am vey satisfied with my JD1024R. it has just over 600 hours on it now. thankya for sharing this video. take care & tractor safe Thankya for sharing your video.
I agree with 2 of your dislikes. I dislike the Rio switch. It was engineered with the intention of making reversing safer. I feel it does the exact opposite. I can't fully turn around while holding the switch down. I also dislike the ROPS, but for a different reason. The hinge brackets should be mounted on the forward side of the tube. With them facing rearward I have to move into some akward positions to enter the backhoe operator station.
I have a long list of likes for my 1025R. Agree that loader is a favorite. Parking brake indication could be improved. My biggest dislike is the location of the small fuel filter under the left foot platform. Difficult to access since mine needs to be replaced 1 to 2 times a year.
Ok,I have the same one,but I can't lift something like you move your chicken coop? How is it possible to lift that up?that seems too heavy for that tractor. Thanks
Watch all of your videos love them all. Bought a 2021 1025R with the 120R loader 54D mid mower deck turf tires great tractor can’t say enough about it Thanks for the video
Take my words on this I’ve had 5 tractor n 16 years now, there is know tractor that perform like you won’t. I’ve had 4, John Deere still have the 1025 R it’s a good tractor I needed the backhoe . I now have Massey Ferguson all new tractor the Massey Ferguson first month it was in the shop for 4 weeks on the 3 function they did not install it right. One big headache. Good luck
These issues are issues I figure we'd have on any tractors, I like the bigger 2R's as well, but this package, I have a 1023E with 80 hours, really can't be beat. It's way more tractor than an L&G tractor but not any bigger really. Having said that the mid PTO switch and getting off the seat are the two worst.
R1 tire would give you about an inch more height but will tear your yard up plus you have to have new rims. Take a look at the new R14 tire it’s a combination of the R1 and R4. It may offer you more height plus a little more aggressive tread without tearing up the yard and an added bonus you don’t have to buy new rims.
Another minor dislike for me is the differential lock pedal. I have to use it fairly often, and it is kind of a pain to engage it because it is so small and hard to feel if you are actually pressing it down, or not. I know there is an aftermarket solution to bolt on the rod and increase the area so it makes it easier, but c'mon Deere, would it kill you to make it more ergonomic right from the factory?!
Love my 1025-- but--- the light switch and emergency flasher always gets turned on when I have to look back using either box blade or brush hog. I am a larger guy and knees always bump that switch. Not that big of deal but just annoying.
I have a 1023e the thing I hate the most is the location of the neutral safety switch it is just below the mid PTO and can easily be unplugged by heavy brush mine went bad so I have it jumped out. Now though I don't have to worry about pushing the PTO button to go in reverse with the mid PTO or raising up on the seat a little bit. I can get completely off the tractor with it in gear and it doesn't shut off. It makes it nice if I have to move the tractor just a little bit without having to be seated on it. That and the ground clearance are really the only negative things I have to say about these little green tractors.
My 2013 will only activate the RIO when the mid-PTO is being used. If I have the rear or rear and mid activated the RIO is deactivated. Guess that's one advantage of having an older 1025.
So the brake is actually the linkage adjustment on the right side straighy back from the drive pedals back off the jam nut and turn the long adjustment nut 3 to four threads and you will have a tight parking brake again
I would, for Southern Ohio( lot more grass to cut). At home it would be overkill. Some of our long range goals might involve leaving the 1025r in southern Ohio, that would open the door for the MMM, and having another tractor at home.
By the time we’re talking about the inconvenience of some built in safety features and nothing about serious mechanical design failure or operational capability it’s a pretty fine machine.
www.palletforks.com/skid-steers/skid-steer-buckets/grab-hooks/38-inch-bolt-on-grab-hook/125106.html They were from Titan, but you could also check out Ken's bolt on hooks.
I don't regret getting it. It's nice to have it there in a spur of a moment and I use it all the time. My only complaint is the little rubber boots at the base of the control arms always come loose. That's not a big deal, just a pet peeve.
Could you put that roller bar straight up and I have to worry about it like you said you can make a cover for you I don’t get why I don’t understand what’s down like that. I’m just now getting in the tractors trying to learn all I can have one of those I could use one, but probably never will get one cause I don’t have the money, just knowing just looking at them they’re awesome
Hang a couple of short tree-saver straps off the ROPS (on the corners). Haven't hit my head since doing that and they don't get in the way of anything.
I use to have a hassle doing the same thing. Having a cart for the backhoe makes it line up a lot easier. Next episode I couldn't get it lined up for a reason I didn't expect.
my 2 big dislikes are... #1 the key position. i hit my knee on it constantly and turns the tractor off. #2 the loader. i hate thats its a single action loader. tilt, up tilt, up, tilt, up
I understand what your saying and i have mine with my Kubota as well. What i agree most and they have in common is the folding ROPS I have to fold mine down to put in the garage also. I have hit my head more times then i want too count all because they built a ROPS two inches higer then a standard garage door.👍👍
I jumped out my seat safety and removed that annoying rops. My hates is I wish it had higher loader lift to dump into trucks. I don’t want a 2025 which is 6 inches higher.
Need a new transmission. My x350 died at 550 hours, broken Spyder gears. $997 plus my labor. If your lucky is just a dirty oil screen and filter. Clean and change the oil more frequently. Have you fixed it since your post ?
Good morning, I just watched your likes and dislikes about your 1025 and really enjoyed it. I had a X595 JD and was going to trade it for a 2025 but the delays in getting it went from October, to December, to March as they were having build problems. So I bought a Kubota 2601 and found it what I liked better. #1 it has 2 brakes which the JD didn’t have, it help me cut around the apple trees as I use the brake to swing around the branches without hitting the lower rops. #2 no button to push when you backup with the mower. #3 larger tires for for moor clearance. 1 thing I don’t like is the fuel fill on top of the hood must hold the 6 gallon can when fueling. I like the B2601 and would not opt for a larger tractor for me. Also the 3 speed axel is a good idea as I always cut in the medium speed.
just signed papers on my 2022 john deere 1025R so excited and will be delivered in a few days!!!
I agree 1,000% with you on having a front end loader, kinda like buying a pick up truck without 4x4, keep up the honest videos!!!
Thank you for sharing we just purchased one this week and love your video. Helps us a lot! Our first tractor same model!
Thanks!

Just got my 2022 1025R yesterday and the PTO and Seat cutoffs already drive me nuts. Quickly did the seat jumper and PTO/RIO cutout.
Thanks. Very informative. Also interested in the backhoe attachment.
Good vid... I (like many others) have installed the "fixes" for the seat cut-off and PTO/reverse issues. Enjoy your videos....keep 'em up!

Totally agree on forgetting to release the hand brake, I do it all the time too🤦🏻♂️
Ive been in the process for the past month of extending all of the tractor control levers as well as the backhoe & outrigger controls for easier reach for my personal operator performance preference. All control levers are being painted JD green & yellow & im also planning on adding reflective safety decals on the rear of the bachoe outriggers. I cant wait untill im all done. ive been off my tractor for round a month & i need my "tractor theropy!!!"
I do not like the position of the parking brake slide lever nor its design & the same with the silly cruise control slide lever. my favorite tool is the H-120 loader. i wish at times it would raise a bit higher. i do wish the tractor had a bit more power, but overall, i am vey satisfied with my JD1024R. it has just over 600 hours on it now.
thankya for sharing this video. take care & tractor safe
Thankya for sharing your video.
Don't have to wish ........ 2032R or 2038R or 3 series.
What are your thoughts on the machines narrow wheel base? I find mine is abit tippy.
It got really tipping after adding a cab. I ended up putting 3” spacers on all the wheels. Makes a noticeable improvement.
@@ataleofthreecabins1025 thank you for the advice!!! I'll do that!! Cheers!!
My pet hate is refitting the mower attachment , it never goes back on easily. Solved the problem by buying a flail mower for the rear .
Looking to buy a good used one now. Looked at a 2032, but price was more then I felt it was worth for my needs.
I have a long list of likes for my 1025R. Agree that loader is a favorite. Parking brake indication could be improved. My biggest dislike is the location of the small fuel filter under the left foot platform. Difficult to access since mine needs to be replaced 1 to 2 times a year.
The parking brake can be fixed with a linkage adjustment quite easily with an 18mm wrench
Ok,I have the same one,but I can't lift something like you move your chicken coop?
How is it possible to lift that up?that seems too heavy for that tractor.
Thanks
My John Deere riding mower has the same PTO and seat safety switches. After bypassing them it made operating it much better.
I have a 2025R on order supposedly it comes with a quick change adapter so the install is easier. Do you know anything about this feature?
I assume you're typing about the quick hitch for 3 pt. implements. Here is a video I did those th-cam.com/video/tPWK0RECsi4/w-d-xo.html
Good luck
The brake is my #1 pet peeve!, some of the LS and blue tractors have a hand brake and warns you if you drive with the brake on.
I think your doing a GREAT JOB. Thanks for the video. Can you let me know the price tag for your new best friend? 😅
Great video! I’ve had mine two days and discovered that I can get off the seat as long as it’s in neutral without setting the stupid parking brake.
Piece of wood and a u bolt. Done!
I got a Kubota & have the same issue with the seat safty switch, you can't even slide on it.
I have a 2305, and it has a rigid ROPS. I'd love to have a folding ROPS so I'd quit hitting my trees and scaring them. I may have to modify it some.
You Nailed it. Great Job.
So the brake is actually the linkage adjustment on the right side straighy back from the drive pedals back off the jam nut and turn the long adjustment nut 3 to four threads and you will have a tight parking brake again
Thanks
If you’re cooking out riding mower Dies would you ever consider a mid mount 54 inch or 60 mower deck for the 1025R
That is supposed to say cub cadet do not know where the cookies came from auto correct sorry
I would, for Southern Ohio( lot more grass to cut). At home it would be overkill. Some of our long range goals might involve leaving the 1025r in southern Ohio, that would open the door for the MMM, and having another tractor at home.
I mow with my 4x4 X738 60 inch deck. I didn't even consider a deck when i bought the 2025R. I am not sure how the 738 compares to the 1025.
I have just under 1000 hours on it now , it’s a great tractor
By the time we’re talking about the inconvenience of some built in safety features and nothing about serious mechanical design failure or operational capability it’s a pretty fine machine.
No argument there. These are all things you can live with, but doesn't mean it strikes a nerve or forehead now and then:)
Similar likes and dislikes with my 2015 1025R. Good to hear I am not alone on the parking brake annoyance. Thanks for sharing.
My #1 dislike is the ROPS followed closely by the PTO safety button and the seat issue (I'm going to take care of those items this week)
Super filmik
How's that backhoe attachment I know most are kinda crappy
It does better then I thought it would, but you have to realize what something that size is capable of and not to expect more.
I have a 1025r tell me about your stump grinder . please
What forks do you have? Been shopping
Somehow I've avoided the seat switch problem. I use 42" forks.
I thought where the hood latch was at the top of the grill was fine before. Don't understand why they want you to bend down on the side.
Hi I’m from the government and I’m here to help you. I have a 2025. I agree except the seat switch which I do not have.
I get the park brake problem! It's my number one hate, loader is my favorite also.
Love your series of videos.. where did u get your tow hooks for your loader?
www.palletforks.com/skid-steers/skid-steer-buckets/grab-hooks/38-inch-bolt-on-grab-hook/125106.html
They were from Titan, but you could also check out Ken's bolt on hooks.
what do you like and dislike about the backhoe?
I don't regret getting it. It's nice to have it there in a spur of a moment and I use it all the time. My only complaint is the little rubber boots at the base of the control arms always come loose. That's not a big deal, just a pet peeve.
Love my 1025r. My likes and dislikes arr spot on with yours.
I want hydrostatic tractors for a lot of years and I think I rarely use the parking brake put the bucket down and it's not going to go anywhere.
The engine, does it have regen or need DEF to run?
Ron West It’s just under the horse power limit, so it doesn’t need either.
Hang a couple of short tree-saver straps off the ROPS (on the corners). Haven't hit my head since doing that and they don't get in the way of anything.
Have the same tractor what I don’t like is removing the backhoe n putting it back on. Just time consuming. Ron
I use to have a hassle doing the same thing. Having a cart for the backhoe makes it line up a lot easier. Next episode I couldn't get it lined up for a reason I didn't expect.
I think the 4 series would be a good fit for you.
Try adding black rubber on the rops to protect your head from bumping
my 2 big dislikes are... #1 the key position. i hit my knee on it constantly and turns the tractor off. #2 the loader. i hate thats its a single action loader. tilt, up tilt, up, tilt, up
Never hit the key, but I do hit the flashers all the time.
My absolute number one single biggest dislike about this tractor is the simple fact that I don't have one yet : ) Maybe Tuesday.
That's an excellent point, hope that is remedied soon.
I understand what your saying and i have mine with my Kubota as well. What i agree most and they have in common is the folding ROPS I have to fold mine down to put in the garage also. I have hit my head more times then i want too count all because they built a ROPS two inches higer then a standard garage door.👍👍
Why is the roll bar not up?
To show the position in my garage to the relation of my head:)
Like
At 5:21-5:22 watch the mouse climb up into the tractor through the backhoe!
Wow! That is pretty observant.
I jumped out my seat safety and removed that annoying rops. My hates is I wish it had higher loader lift to dump into trucks. I don’t want a 2025 which is 6 inches higher.
Almost 500 hours on mine and now it won't go forward or backwards at all any ideaz
Fred Reese low on hydraulic fluid, linkage below the high lo shifter.
@@ataleofthreecabins1025 the dip stick behind the seat says it full n all linkages look to be working properly
Fred Reese ask the experts on the green tractor talk forum. Tons of free advice there.
Need a new transmission.
My x350 died at 550 hours, broken Spyder gears. $997 plus my labor.
If your lucky is just a dirty oil screen and filter. Clean and change the oil more frequently. Have you fixed it since your post ?
If you do not have a loader all you have is a glorified lawn tractor. A MUST!
Cut down the ROP device. No need to fold it down. Same protection! Fits in the barn….
That's a good size tractor. Probably more in line with the 2032R or 38R (those have the 2 brake pedals and a little heavier). Thanks for your input
