  • I upgraded the fridge in my Micro Minnie from absorption to a 12v compressor fridge. This was a wonderful upgrade, but it left two large holes in the camper that I wanted to cover to stop air intrusion. Here's how I fixed the roof vent.

Everyone may already know this, but a hard plastic scraper can be your friend on lap seal removal, but even so, one has to use care to not damage the roof surface. I’m on the verge of getting rid of the old fridge too. Didn’t know you could get rid of the hole in the roof as well! AND SUPER THANKS for the hindsight comment re: installing the wood patch before you finish the fridge install!

Great Idea, I’m thinking of doing this in place of my leaky skylight. I’m guessing smooth side down on the plastic?

do you have a link for the plastic sheet you used to cover the hole?

Put a little heat on that tape after you put it down to make the seal even tighter...just not too much heat!...

Im curious, doesn't the vents help put heat put from the refrigerator? So if you close them off heat will go inside rv? & definitely the roof vent seeing hot air rises . Just curious because i live in one & if i can do that to cool it off i will

Would this apply to an evaporated cooler on a single wide?

So what is "it" that you covered your plastic piece with? Was kind of the key feature of your video, and was never mentioned. Watched the video twice to make sure.

The black plastic piece was covered with Eternabond. Is that what you are asking about?

I think you'll regret putting down that black plastic as a cover. The plastic will eventually break down from heat absorption and UV exposure. Sheetmetal would be the permanent fix, or aluminum plate. Thinking to the future, most people would leave the vent in place and use it to pass through wires for solar, but block below to hold in heat.

Tim the tool man?! Why no lap sealant around the edges?!

    • @popsah1

I thought about using lap sealant, but the EternaBond is water tight... at least for awhile. I inspect my roof many times a year. Thanks for the comment!
