I watched your whole repair series. Thanks so much for posting. It gave me the confidence to tackle a ladies rv roof repair. It's not as bad as yours. Thanks so much!
Hey, man. I appreciate you taking your time to do a detailed recording of the roof it helps me out quite a bit. I think the rest of us could say thank you brother, thank you very much.
This series is really going to be helpful. I have an older camper that I've inherited that is in need of some roof repair. First time rv owner but I'm relatively handy. Really appreciate you sharing!
This helps so much. I had floorboards that were basically wood chips after wood damage that we replaced and then my ceiling/roof looks exactly like this. It's all moldy and water damaged. Thanks for posting how you took all this off. This really helps when renovating/repairing at home.
Awesome video tutorial, thanks! Just picked up a camper today that needs alot of roof love, haha. No video of you repairing the OSB and installing the new rubber roof?
Hi Scott, Good luck with your new project, I think you will find it worth it. I have a couple of videos on those parts of my project as well. Check out this playlist th-cam.com/play/PLrdRMuA-JebTGIxpRyG0jc9v7bLSFocCj.html It should include all of my roofing videos. I also did a complete write-up on the project as well, which you can find here. www.remodelyourrv.com/how-to-install-an-epdm-roof-on-a-camper/ Feel free to check back in as you start working on your new toy!
My parents bought a 1999 fleetwood prowler & had problems with things on it, the worst was just after my mother was almost passing few years back the roof leaked the light bowl in living room filled with rain water I tried fixing it with sealant that was recomended for it still leaked, the tops of these are junk using rubber membrain was completely idiotic.. I would never buy any rv especially from fleetwood..
We had several leaks. One was around the antenna. one was around the skylight in the bathroom, and the slide was leaking. Where is your leak coming in from?
Mine was secured with 4 long bolts that had to be removed from the inside. This video will give you an idea of what it looked like: th-cam.com/video/TctDvgmmS_A/w-d-xo.html
There should be a class action lawsuit against winegard. They are the manufacturers of those horrible antennas. Not only are they useless but they were defective straight from the factory and unless someone sealed the life out of that little rubber boot it would leak.
Were you getting water on inside? I was putting cover on my rv and I seemed to have found a soft spot where wood felt crunchy. Never any water issues on inside, though. Really stressing
Yes. My rig was stored offsite (out of mind) for an extended amount of time, which is when it developed the leaks. Water eventually made it inside and I ended up with water damage from the roof to the frame and everything in between. Where is your soft spot at?
@@remodelyourrv the soft spot is on the main roof, not the main slide out. It's located near edge above our fold out couch. No evidence of water anywhere. We use it a lot and I am always looking for issues
@@homevideos91 I would think you had a compromise at some point and some water got in. Can you identify anything up top where moisture may have leaked in at some point? How big is your soft spot?
I just bought an RV myself and then one corner the wood is rotten I could stick my finger through it if I tried I'm trying to she lit up I don't got much money is it possible just to go over the old wood
All in all it was about $750 tops. The Roofing Kit cost me about $550 on Amazon and came with the rubber roofing material, lap sealant, butyl tape, and roof adhesive. Then I spent about $100 on wood and maybe another $100 on miscellaneous materials. But, I did have to replace a skylight, some vent covers, refrigerator vent cover, and the bathroom vent.
I ordered this kit: amzn.to/2F4KIbk Once, you land on the product page, you can the length you need and it will adjust the price as well as the specific quantities of adhesive, lap sealant, and butyl tape.
A mess indeed. After years and years of RVing we’ve never used the antenna once, so I completely removed it from this rig. Now I don’t have to worry about it.

Great to hear!

Thank you for the kind words.

How much did it cost you to repair the roof?
We are about to start a project like this, so thanks for sharing. I'll be following along.
Awesome...let us know how it goes!
I found that the multi tool is great for removing the lap sealant as well if you’re careful!
Yes, it’s a great little tool.
Nice job saving that first vent cover lol
I know, right?
Thanks bro I needed the motivation for my 1968 eye sore just not cheap
Awesome...good luck with your project.
Thank you for this. Im starting to rebuild my rv and camper this summer.
You can do it!

Is there a part 2??
Good trick for keeping track of screws/bolts is to make a cardboard template and stick them through
Great idea.

It's amazing how cheap they are made.
So did you have water coming inside around the TV antenna? I just bought my first rv, and it has a roof leak.
We had several leaks. One was around the antenna. one was around the skylight in the bathroom, and the slide was leaking. Where is your leak coming in from?
how many bolts were holding your ac unit on? I can only see 1 from the top
Mine was secured with 4 long bolts that had to be removed from the inside. This video will give you an idea of what it looked like: th-cam.com/video/TctDvgmmS_A/w-d-xo.html
Why don't they use marine grade plywood for the roof?
My guess is because of weight, but I'm not really sure.
There should be a class action lawsuit against winegard. They are the manufacturers of those horrible antennas. Not only are they useless but they were defective straight from the factory and unless someone sealed the life out of that little rubber boot it would leak.
They seem to be the source of so many problems.
Holy sh*t.
We have a few soft spots. Do I have to rip the whole roof up?!
Dang....it's hard to tell without taking a look.
Love it, same boat with what I just got!!!
Let me know how it goes.
Us, too.
my rv has a metal roof and needs the front half of the roof replaced, rafters and plywood. how would i got about doing it?
That's a good question. Is the roof (aluminum) one-piece?
Cool vid.gotta do this stuff myself to my rig. 😀
You can do it! Thanks for checking in.

@@homevideos91 I would think you had a compromise at some point and some water got in. Can you identify anything up top where moisture may have leaked in at some point? How big is your soft spot?
how much for something like that
The cost was just materials and my time!
These things are made so shitty🤦🏻♂️unbelievable. My friend repairs RVs he said no matter what type or brand, they ALL LEAK.
It’s horrible.
OH MAN ,WHAT A MESS,JUST LIKE MINE.THESE RV BUILDERS USE THE CHEAPEST MATERIALS.
Yes, they do.
I just bought an RV myself and then one corner the wood is rotten I could stick my finger through it if I tried I'm trying to she lit up I don't got much money is it possible just to go over the old wood
I would try to avoid it if possible. It may cause additional problems down the road.

Remodel Your RV thank you for that insight I have a haycock that has a small roof leak I’ll be doing some replacing soon.
@@reds_daroadrunner553 Glad I offer a little insight. Good luck with your project. It's really not that bad once you get into it. Take care.
Remodel Your RV Which roof kit did you order off Amazon?
I ordered this kit: amzn.to/2F4KIbk

Why not just leave the old one on for more durability🤔
I needed to remove the moist and rotten wood underneath.
Wow how cheap can they make an RV. They should of used marine grade plywood
You’re absolutely right.
I wish they could make plywood out of teak, but teak is an endangered wood.
My antenna looks exactly the same! What a mess!

This shouldn’t be a repair but a dismantling.
I wish you would have told me that ahead of time. lol
Who else heard the toyota 22re pick up drive by? With a flow master.. i cant be the only one..
Great ears!
Nightmare
Agreed.
