Surge is one of the best staves because of the chain CC. It can break bulwark guard, cc maulers, ragers, and whatever else. It does a bit of damage, and net damage wise across targets, will be more damage than most other staves. It also seeks enemies out behind cover and stuns them to make them stand up so your team can pop them. Botton line is, being able to cc targets repeatedly lets your team attack them more with less risk involved.
My favorite targets are Hounds, Ragers, and Pox Bursters which cannot otherwise be easily interrupted. I'm against spamming RMB, though. Quick stun, highlight enemy, finish with LMB if the team doesn't kill it first, and back to BB or melee.
Lightning Staff is so much more fun then the ground AoE one, just got it recently, looking for a pyro one as well but I think I've found my fav already
Genuine question: Doesn't quell have an accelerating rate? Thus wouldn't it make more sense to quell all the way and then start casting rather than alternating between the two? Theoretically you should spend less time on the entire process.
Hopefully not before the core class of psyker gets changes. Strong staff options are a bandaid and if they get nerfed psykers will be kinda bad on heresy+ IMO
He's losing a lot of damage by not charging it just a little more. A nearly full charge can one shot smaller targets, but he has to triple quick strike the same targets for a kill. Comparatively, the trauma staff has more of a hard cc, by knocking them down, and has no limit to how many you can cc, and has slightly more range. Void staff has a lot more range, but less stun per shot. More shots faster tho. Pyro is Pyro.
nah just charge a bit longer, really good against elite, the lesser damage but faster charge speed compare to head burst make it more reliable at closer range, you can stun an entire elite group easily(poxbuster too!)
Surge staff has to be the most overrated thing in this game. No offense to your gameplay, but Psyker mains claiming this is the only staff worth using are insanely annoying.
I think it is annoying when someone spams it non-stop. Every time I get someone like that in my games they are always going down the most. However, it does have a guaranteed interrupt on a lot of otherwise unstoppable enemies. I think it's the best staff, but it remains in my pocket most of the game.
@@ARTEMISXIX where do you find voidstrike more useful? @@Cain3697 Void is great for snipping multiple targets and it's an all around option for short and long range. With flame you're confined to short range or BB but it's usually ok too since the more annoying specials that sit beyond your range die to one BB anyway..
Everyone's favorite staff that is also probably the worst option for Psyker to take. Usually just better off head popping if I'm honest. It provides stun utility, but what does that matter when a headpop would've just removed the threat in the first place. The other 3 staves are much better for horde clear, and this one's purpose kind of overlaps with what Headpop is supposed to do. Not to mention Psyker's talents don't help this staff out at all, which is sad.
I can't reallt agree while i prefer flame staff. With surge yeah poping is better to kill. But this staff can paralyse zerkers, ogryns anf every specials even when they grab friends, it opens so many seconds for your teammate to kill them while poping takes times
It matters when your team is against multiple armored Elites and Specials and you're the only one who can stop them from doing damage. Your job with the Surge Staff is to disable a lot of those types of enemies as well as the ranged minions that keep taking potshots at your team. You're not there to do damage.
@@Hibernape and yet for the same heat you can just headpop a couple of those, and reduce incoming damage. Use your knockback ability to further delay them coming. I could agree that the lightning staff would help with stunning multiple armored elites, but there are other options, and while you spend your heat stunning, you're not headpopping them. Also, there is the talent that helps with spreading fire after headpop, which could help with this situation without the staff. This staff has its uses, but if you're running level 4+, it almost always means you have a tight group; I can see myself using this staff if there are 2 sharpshooters dealing with packs of armored elites, but really, headpopping in general is more efficient in this case.
@@Warchoon I'm sure a single headpop is really gonna make a difference instead of just stunning a group of Elites and Specials swarming your team. Afterall, you can easily oneshot enemies with your Brain Burst due to it scaling with difficulty, right? Oh, right. It doesn't. I'm sure your team will appreciate you charging your Brain Burst in a corner to take off half of a single Elite's health bar for 45% peril instead of just indefinitely CCing a whole group of them. Maybe actually try playing in 4+ instead of talking out of your ass?

Closest staff we’ll get in terms of look in Dawn of War, if only the psyker energies were more purple than light blue..
THIS! I love the psyker in Dawn of War!

Also from what I can see, at the start at least, your firing at things out of your range, the Smite Staff is closer range than you seem to think
The Pyro, is it nearly as fun as the lightning staff
Lightning staff feels kind of meh at first. But in higher difficulties it's a lot more valuable.

Damn. Psyker combat is even more frantic affair than Cienna was.
A veteran with a bolter is by far the best loadout in Darktide.
Very inefficient. A Kantrael MG XII is a superior weapon because it's way more efficient at what it does.
But, the Boltgun makes loud booms.
Genuine question:

Depends on the traits. Some staves give increase crit rate the higher your peril, so one may not wish to fully drain it all.
They actually changed it from an accelerating quell to a faster constant quell. So what he's doing is the best way
@@QuarPro85 Interesting, getting faster overall but back loading all the damage in exchange seemed like a fair deal.
