Hello Patrick. I went to grad school in Flint at what was then GMI (General Motors Institute), but is now Kettering Univ. My old stomping ground. Unfortunately most of the old plants I was in around there have now been torn down. My grandmother had a blue Chevelle with a 6-cylinder in it - fond memories of riding around in that as a kid with my cousin. Hey, I would sure love to see some follow-up videos from when after these classics are restored. Interesting stuff. Thank you.

Back before there were suddenly 700 new barnfinds a month, a "barnfind" was usually a car found stored but in very good unmolested condition, not rotted to nothing. Those were obviously very hard to find, and often were not from barns, but garages. I think the term "barn find" caught on back when the first few clean dry cars were found out west and publicized because of the easy restorations.

Yes, a barn find was something special. I find it hard to get excited about something in such, um, uninspiring condition. And please give me a break with talking about 'patina.' A car rusting away has a remarkable patina in some circles. Ruined that word.

Hey Patrick, I live in Michigan and my dad has a 1970 Chevelle ss 454 automatic that was silver with black stripes and is a hard top with bucket seats. Thanks for the reply Aaron. Your dads car can be authenticated by the original engine stamp which proves it to be a real SS car if it has one of the 4 appropriate engines. Which horsepower engine is the car equipped with? Once we know that I can shed some light on some production figures to answer your rarity question.
I remember in about 72 or 73 seeing a 70 SS454 with an "Open Chamber" emblem just below the SS454 on the fender well. I always wondered what that designated. Mr. Nichols can you elaborate?
the ho bbc 454 had oval port open chamber heads instead of closed chamber heads and this car is no LS car the LS 6 454 was a small block and not a sbc LS has never built a big block in history they only build small block and they are full roller engines and they only have one block for all like a Pontiac and they still use the same block today

I find it odd to see a clutch fan on a LS6 car. The clutch fans purpose was to reduce the power consumption or hp that a standard fan would use. My father has worked with GM in a dealer in the 60s till he retired and I followed his footsteps and I’m in a dealer. My grandfather was a plant worker during the strike. He remembers only 5 come out of Flint plant with the LS6 package and only 2 had the cranberry option. I have first hand knowledge of this car and it’s odd how I would come across this video. My grandfather had his hand on this car. WoW it’s a small world
I was acquainted with a gentleman who worked the GM line in Kansas City for +20 plus years... He mentioned that at times they'd run out of specific detailed items for a vehicle and sub the item to keep the line moving.... So the wrong tach in this car is not really a surprise to me.
