One of the greatest and most underrated bands in rock history ! Love Annie ! ❤

One of the best prog bands. Annie Haslam has the most beautiful voice in rock and Jon Camp is the most under-rated bassist in rock.

Since I discovered Renaissance in Philadelphia they have been anything but obscure with me. I absolutely LOVE them and seek them out on TH-cam on the regular,
which is exactly how I came to view this. Subscribing now because Ranking the Obscure is a brilliant idea. Wish I'd thought of it myself!

Cheers to you! I only have one album by Renaissance and it happens to be your number one pick. Very interesting to hear this band talked about in such depth. Makes me want to investigate the band further.

Great art rock band with wonderful vocals.
My personal opinion/ preferences ( including the two albums of the first incarnation):
    - Scheherazade and other stories
    - Ashes are burning
    - Prologue
    - Turn of the cards
    - Novella
    - Renaissance
    - Illusion

Really enjoyed this Iain. Discovered Renaissance recently and am quickly becoming a fan. I think 'Carpet Of The Sun' deserved to have been a huge hit for them.

One of my favorite prog artists of the 1970's! Saw them live several times - fantastic. My Top 3 (separated by the slimest of margins) would be 1) Turn Of The Cards 2) Ashes Are Burning 3) Scheherazade. Ashes is definitely their best song though! Great rankiing video. Thanks Iain!

Good video. Most of the Nashville Teens members made up the live setup in late 1970 with Binky Cullom on supporting vocals a sort of prototype version two before Miles Copeland reworked the band putting Annie Haslem as lead and focused more on acoustic and classical which became the focus of the next decade, my fave is Ashes Are Burning

A challenge ensues, picking two tracks out of the R albums you know:
    S/T: Kings and Queens; Wanderer
    Prologue: Prologue; Kiev
    Ashes are burning:
Do you understand?; Ashes are burning (Arguably the best opening and closing tracks to an album ever.) Alternative pick: Carpet of the sun; At the harbour
    Turn of the Cards:
    Black Flame; Mother Russia
(Love this entire album. It pains me to pick just two) Alternative pick: Running Hard; Things I don't understand.
    SCHEHERAZADE and other stories:
The vultures fly high; the S/T epic, obviously. Trip to the fair to complete the podium.
Novella: Can you hear me; Touching once
A song for all seasons: The day of the dreamer; the S/T epic, of course!

You pretty much nailed it ! (I noticed you mentioned the line-up for their 2nd "Illusion" and not releasing more, well they DID ! they were called "Illusion" and released 2 albums in the 70s, and there is 2 more archive or outtake albums by them !!) Cheers

It's interesting to me that out of the ashes of The Yardbirds rose Led Zeppelin and Renaissance. They couldn't be more different musically.

Al Stewart added to the Laundry List, which is updated weekly. You see what is being worked on already and what is in the pipeline. Here's the link - docs.google.com/document/d/e/2PACX-1vReF-bjov4S9txHVZoBUMM7XXwdY40CA-PqDW6uXrCpk7ikRTXJC5wb7Kv6rhA6vq41VclesiJE_vVI/pub
