  • Notes: Add a cord cleat to each window blind for safety. Operating cords must have a default length of 40 percent of the blind height according to Section 4.3.2 of ANSI/WCMA-2018 (previously unlimited). And a warning label must depict more graphically the strangulation hazard associated with cords (5.1).
    The hobbled roman shade, sometimes called the teardrop shade, works just like a flat roman shade, except that the shade is fashioned with horizontal pleats (hobbles) that run across the front at regular intervals. In the raised position a hobbled roman shade does not look much different from a flat roman shade. However, in the lowered position the hobbled roman shade contains soft pleats or teardrops making a grad appearance in any position. In this video tutorial we will detail every step required to make a gorgeous hobbled roman shade.

    Cautionary Warning!!!
    Small children have become entangled in shade lift lines, sometimes leading to death. This is a do-it-yourself project - use this shade design at your own risk. The highest degree of safety will be achieved by making sure that small children are not able to access shades that utilize lift lines and it is with this caution that we offer a complete description of how to make your own Hobbled Roman Shade system.

    This is a great tutorial, however I wish pressing the fabrics before construction was part of the instructions. Something I’ve learned the hard way! I’ve been sewing for over 50 yrs and I find the extra time it takes to press is well worth it!

    I love the app! I have looked at several different fabrics and then gone to the calculator and inserted the repeats and widths. How SIMPLE this makes the calculations for fabric and dimensions for the shades. And now this video ! I am so happy you did this for all of us 'visual' learners! Thank you!!

    What adjustments would you make to this for an outside mount? The wooden board across the top will be visible from the side, I think

    • @SailriteDIY
      @SailriteDIY  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      You are correct, if you desire to hide it you would have to make a small valance box at the top of the shade.

  • @vegasjill21

    Do you...or someone...or ANYBODY, think it's (going to be) harder to make this hobbled shade with a window that is 6 ft LONG and 31 inches in height?? I totally forgot to take that into consideration last night when I absentmindedly ran to JOANN to get 3 yards each of relatively thick, outdoor like, fabric and a liner. And darn...I forgot about losing the print which looks like big splashes of watercolor but actually it is only shades of grays and off white.
    Great video and you make it look SEW easy..and I appreciate that. But I'm still certain I need my Mommy to help me! :( She could create anything so beautifully.

    Thank you for not bothering to show us how to do our own calculations. I cant wait to have the money to go buy the ipad or iphone or whatever so I can take a class to learn how to run the damn thing so I can get online and register my bank account so I can buy an app and figure out how to operate it so I can "simplify" making this shade. I'll just go somewhere else to learn how to do a job you had claimed you were going to show us in your Hour Long video.

    What a shame that the app is only apple. Those of us who are professional engineers and are tech savvy would never use an apple device. This is the reason why. Most apps are made for Windows/Android.
