Watching you measure the fabric and cut in stages, it struck me that maybe you could use a builders tiling laser (as in ceramic floor tiles) to show you where to cut! It's overkill, but it might save you some time. Measure at the top and bottom and line up the laser. It shows you two laser lines, 90 degrees from each other. :)

What happened to your singer sewing machine
Using hot glue sounds great but I don't know if it would last long term.
