    Always iron the fabric prior to cutting. Then again pressing as you go (sew).
    IF you ever plan to wash these shades in the future.. ALWAYS PRE-WASH to pre-shrink prior to cutting fabric.

    Love your video and presentation! It's very straightforward and easy to follow. The only change I would suggest is to create a pocket at the top to put a compression rod in instead of stapling the fabric directly to the board. This would allow you to put the shade directly in front of the mounting board in the window so that it works the same way but then you could easily untie the strings, pull out the dowels and compression rod and wash the shade.

    Very easy. Made 3 Roman shades for the bedroom - 1st time making. Turned out okay. Wished I had watched your video rather than the other 5 which all were different. I used the old mini blind mounting brackets and used a 1 x 1 to attach the sticky Velco to. That way I not have to use any other brackets. I did have my husband cut a 2" piece of the 1 x 1 to staple to each end on the back side of the wood to fill in the depth gap inside the blind bracket. Worked perfect.

    Loved this video!! Short and to the point!
    Your fabric is gorgeous! I would be obsessed too!! I will be making these for our bedroom!! (it's getting a make over soon)
    I know this video a few years old, but I wanted to ask, I also have a large picture window (10' 6" wide, a large center window with two smaller windows on each side) it would cost over 600 dollars just for blinds for the center window! 😳 Crazy ridiculous!
    I would love to make 3 roman shades, one for each window, the center window is 79" wide, do you think it would be possible to make a shade that won't be impossible to operate? And we need the blackout part of it too, also what I was looking for. We have full sun from morning to mid afternoon.
    Do you, or anyone, have any suggestions for making a large shade? Is it even possible? Or should I not even try it and do something else?
    Thank you to anyone that answers.

    On you video, you said to "start the nylon string on the lower right hand corner." You showed that with arrows, which was very helpful. But then you said "Add a second nylon string on the bottom left shade, but your arrows for the second string are on the same side as the first string. When you say "left and right", do you mean looking at it from the bottom of it with the lining side up? Or do you mean left to right from the bottom of the "right side up"? That's the only thing I'm confused about, because it seems like like your verbal instructions don't match the picture. Please help??!! Thanks so much!

    • @stargazer0001
      @stargazer0001 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      She says the first string gets tied in place on the right side (from her point of view) and left loose on the left side to operate the shade. For the second string, it is fed through the left side only (again, her point of view) up through to the top eye screw and then back down to the bottom ring. One end of the second string is tied and the other end left loose to operate the shade. Therefore, two ends will be loose on the left side for operation. Hope that makes sense.😊

    • @christinabo63
      @christinabo63 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@stargazer0001 it does make sense. The long string ist to operate the right side, the shorter string is to operate the side it's on, so the left side in this case. Now I have a clear and logical picture in my mind. Thanks to the video and your comment I might succeed with using up fabric and creating a Roman blind 🥰
      Thank you!
      Edit: I changed my mind about the execution. I have two cats that love to look through the windows and play with string, so the string version is potentially to dangerous. But I found the linked version with magnets quite helpful 🤩 I think I have some suitable magnets in my stash ☺

    • @AButterflyHouse
      @AButterflyHouse  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That window is huge!! To be honest, I'm not sure this system would perform well on a window that big, but if you were going to try, at minimum I think you'd need larger structural pieces. Like instead of a 1x2, use a 2x4. Make the dowel rods 1" diameter. Use a thick nylon rope instead of string. I also think you'd need a middle column of rings to help pull up something that large.

    Don't do things this way if you want your shade to last, ladies. Get a book on how to make them properly at the library. The side hems should be double 1 1/2", with the raw edges folded in, and the bottom hem should be finished properly, too. Also, covering the mounting board with lining fabric and stapling it on will look better from the outside and will prevent the lignins in the wood from damaging the deco fabric. Furthermore, you should not need to ever wash the shade. Do not wash your home decorating fabrics ahead of time--the manufacturers put on finishes that will wash away. Monthly vacuuming will keep it clean for years.
