    I have both and I would chose the Hi-Power any day over the Glock. Better ergo's, better recoil control and probably the best balanced handgun ever made. I like Glocks, train with Glocks, and instruct others to use Glocks but would never say it could do better than a Hi-Power. It might be the king in the plastic world but has a long road ahead to prove itself in the steel world.

    Fantastic pistol!After Panama in 89-90 i wanted one for myself.These pistols were hard to find because most guys who owned them tended to keep them.I missed out on the Argentinian imports back in the late 90s to include the British MOD surplus too.Now im kicking myself in the ass for not having one.

      Interesting take on the weather issue. Now that you mention it. I am in a very humid subtropical region down in South Africa and the glocks get slippery as hell when the humidity % gets up there with factory stippling only. Havent ever had one with a custom job. The browning seems to fit the hand better which means a more solid grip in the draw and the steel, rubber and wood doesnt seem to retain moisture like the glock's plastic.

    The Browning HI Power made and assembled in Belgium, is arguably the finest 9mm ever made. I would love to know what features that a Glock can do better. Just from an accuracy standpoint alone, the Glock with it's double action style trigger system, cannot touch the accuracy of a Browning HI Power's 1911 style trigger system. I have a Browning HP made and assembled in Belgium, and found a old one, which I restored for a woman for concealed carry, and cannot find a Glock that can compare. Respectfully of course, I have to completely disagree on the Glock being superior in any way. To say that there is nothing that a Glock can't do better than this pistol, requires a thorough explanation, for that statement. Please if time permits explain your facts that validate that statement.

    Wrong LAV! Nothing a Hi Power can do that a Glock can't do better? How about busting a cap with some class? Sights are superior on Hi Power, as are ergos. Not to mention a Hi power is a super model compared to a frumpy Glock. And lastly the Hi Power had an more impressive pedigree and history.

      1. Removing the magazine disconnect is quick and easy.
      2. You can get 15 round mags for it so it can keep up with the Glock 19 in that regard.
      3. Your last argument is completely subjective,some people prefer SA guns and carrying cocked-and-locked.
      Also
      4. It has a superior trigger.
      5. has better ergonomics,the Glock grip angle is just plain goofy.
      6. It has much, much better aesthetics.

    Was in the Army Reserves when it was Desert Shield. Knew I was going to be deployed. Never had much faith in the M-16. So I wanted a back up.
    So went to an established gun dealer. Told him my issues. Wanted a 9MM. Something that could take regular and high powered ammo.
    Why? The US had switched to the 9MM. If I got a .45 where could I get ammo for it when I needed it?
    With a 9MM could get it from the Army or allies. Or the enemy even.
    So he recommended the Browning 9MM High Power.
    Bought it.
    And I did get deployed.
    And got deployed a second time a few years later.
    And I took it with me.
    I still own it.
    It is still my side arm of choice.

    The Hi Power isn't dated. I love when people say that, but when you try to say a 1911 is dated. Their underwear tightens into a knot. Yes there are things a Glock can do that the Hi Power doesn't, but there are a lot of things that still make a Hi Power a better gun than a Glock. It's a good system, and many still use them for CCW, use higher pressure rounds and many surplus guns are selling for very VERY cheap. Many are in really good condition as well. Block didn't invent a good gun, they invented the torture test and fan boys have been jizzing in their panties ever since. Block was the first to fill 4 page ads in Popular Mechanics with them running it over, and dunking it in salt water, freezing them. Then they pushed the rumor that they could pass through metal detectors and the word BLOCK was the center of the news for months..

      Apparently it's closer than you think. FN appears to be ready to discontinue production. Problem is, most of the armies of the world that use it have already replaced it with a more modern design. The UK already has, and from a military standpoint, that makes sense. The Hi Power is a great gun, but the Glock is just as rugged, just as reliable, just as good a service pistol, and all at a lower cost, plus the Glock is easier for unit armorers to work on. Financially it makes sense -- most of the Hi Powers in the service with various countries are decades old and at or near the end of their service lives, so replacing them with a more economical modern gun that is just as good is a sensible thing to do.
      And without military contracts, there's not enough demand to make it worthwhile for FN to keep producing them in the face of the modern preference for modern striker-fired, polymer framed guns these days. Lots of people love the Hi Power (I'm one of them), but it doesn't have anywhere near the following the 1911 has, so it probably won't ever see production with dozens of companies for civilian sales like the 1911 does.

      If its about cost I'm not going to bet my life on a weapon just because it's cheaper

    • @Hibernicus1968
      @Hibernicus1968 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Don't discount cost. One of the reasons that weapons get adopted by military organizations and law enforcement agencies is cost. They get replaced for that reason as well. The Germans replaced the Luger with the P-38 not because they were dissatisfied with the pistol in any way, but because it simply cost too much. We replaced the Thompson submachine gun with the M3 grease gun for precisely the same reason. Oftentimes, costing less allows an organization to buy more of a weapon, and Glocks are so popular with law enforcement agencies these days because they have low cost -- and this in turn means thousands upon thousands more of them make their way into duty holsters, and thus the design gets wrung out and improved to a far greater degree than many more costly designs ever will.
      Cheaper does not automatically mean either better or worse (to a certain point), but cost IS a factor, and there is always a point of diminishing returns. Buying a Hi Power for 800-900 dollars will get you a very, very good pistol, one you can bet your life on. But then on the other hand, just a bit over half as much for a Glock will get you the EXACT same thing -- and leave you money left over to buy ammo you can train with.

It's an excellent gun. But it is nowhere near the quality and workmanship of the Hi-Power. The Hi-Power is a work of art and the granddaddy of the wonder nines. Hi-power has less recoil than a 9mm Glock(except maybe a Glock 34 or Glock 17L, but they are stupidly long as a result). Also it is less likely to break if put under a lot of pressure.

    Trained on these as well as on Glocks. I liked both but the Glock makes eminent sense from the perspective of all factors i.e. reliability, cost and function. Never had occasion to shoot the Sig, although it’s clearly a pedigree handgun and also retired from British service, along with the Browning now. Ultimately the Ministry of Defence decided it shouldn’t have to be paying any more taxpayer pounds for what amounts to the same bang, when all is said and done.

    There is one place that I would disagree with the statement "the Browning doesn't do anything that the Glock can't do better"....and that is, trigger reset and trigger position. The trigger on the Browning is always in the same position, take up is minimal, and reset is much quicker. While I absolutely love both handguns, which are both in my collection, the Browning hands down is the most comfortable and controllable.

    I have a glock. IMO i like the feel of the high power better & it has not going through multiple gen's f**ing around with the design i mean a 1982 glock can't use 2019 mag or most parts. On the other hand a 1936 high power can use all magazines and parts for 2000's made high power's.IMO

    hi power is head and shoulders above the glock. more accurate, better made, MUCH better natural point of aim.
    glocks are good guns. but there is no comparison.
    glocks are lighter, newer, have higher capacity. and are operationally very simple. still... nothing ive shot so far has surpassed the hi power for me.

    There isn't anything it could do better? I am pretty sure the Glock loses out on natural point of aim, sights, and ergonomics. Glocks are chosen more often now for a multitude of reasons, but you have to approach this thing objectively. A blanket "better at everything" statement immensely lowers your credibility in my book. It is better at a lot, but it isn't often that you can say everything.

    I've used both HP and Glock 17. I prefer the HP, but the Glock is better. One of the main problems with the HP, as a service pistol, was the shitty ammo we had. With the small ejection port meant failure to eject would happen with a frequency that didn't happen with the Walther P5 and not with the Glock now.

    • @Kataquan

      Lighter, 4 more rounds per magazine, striker fired unlike a hammer which junk can block up, more after market options, caliber conversions, no magazine safety

    • @Cornpone
      @Cornpone 7 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Robert Brewster how is being lighter better? And your saying that glocks firing pin block that is deactivated by the trigger is better than a modern HP that has firing pin block AND a manual safety that disables the trigger? All this stuff is subjective..... this video claims that the glock is better...... I call BS...... glock makes great guns, but they are not better. Aftermarket options? That's a reason? And something blocking the hammer from firing? Like what? Lol

    • @Cornpone
      @Cornpone 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Robert Brewster magazine safety I won't argue with, but it's easily disabled, and this improves function. The idea behind a mag safety comes from an outdated philosophy that dropping your mag right before you get your gun taken away from you helps prevent you from getting shot by your own gun. Today we think that's silly, just like 100 years from now they will think it's silly that people today are so bent on having crappy triggers and super light guns that make them more challenging to shoot well.

  • @johnroberts6695
    @johnroberts6695 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Yep, Glocks are even better at accidental discharges. You guys can carry your Glocks with your guns with rounds in the chamber and the guns half-cocked if you want, but I wouldn't do it, nor if I were a police chief, I wouldn't let my men carry the damn things unless I could be sure they could be trained to keep their fingers off the trigger. I'm not a big fan of the gun, nor do I like plastic, striker-fired pistols.
    The guns are fine for CCW carry with gun experts --- people who like guns, but don't care about craftsmanship or beauty. They fire 30-round clips, and that's the only advantage I see in them. Okay, and they're light to carry. But people make what sells and people are buying guns now as tools --- hammers and screwdrivers. They've stopped buying steel and wood. The days of nickel-plated guns with wood grips are gone. Guns used to be considered tools, but they were arms, like the arms of the Middle Ages. People took pride in them and loved to care for them. How much pride can one take in owning a screwdriver?
    I've tried to like Glocks. I've jacked an imaginary round into the chamber, pulled the trigger and said to myself, "People carry them like this?" I would honestly rather jack a round into my Beretta 92 and carry it than carry a loaded Glock. At least the Beretta (and my S&W 659) have some take-up in the trigger before they go BANG!! Glocks, not so much. My feeling is that if people can be trained to keep their fingers off the trigger, they can be trained to use a cock and locked safety. I didn't agree with much of what old Jeff Cooper said about firearms, but I do agree with him about the cock and locked safety.

    One thing the BHP has done better than the glock is have G19 height grip with a G17 size slide, something glock has yet to produce. Beyond not having rails or squared guard, I'd wager its equal performance if the options weren't used on the glock, if not better.
