    • @tempustv

      Yup that's the best way to do it! There are only a few things you might not realize you're doing, but besides that common courtesy goes a long way. Thanks for watching!

    DUI's are common in Thailand. They put check stations in random places. They do allow you to pull over to sleep before going through it though.

      Take a sober up nap before causing a accident. In america you cant even sleep drunk in your car even if parked where you got drunk. Forced to drive home. Less risk getting caught driving then sleeping where get noticed by every cop

    I always thought of the prohibition against the Buddha statues as a circular economy. They can sell you the statue, you can't buy it. Statue gets confiscated at customs. Seller buys Buddha statue from customs clearing warehouse. Seller sells Buddha statue to tourist for grossly inflated price. Statue gets confiscated etc. etc. etc.

    It's not illegal to drink in public, period. But it is a NO No to openly drink beer/alcohol in temple, school and govt office. It's a social taboo. Though the police might not arrest you, you'll be frowned upon and unwelcome. It's considered boorish and downright rude.

    • @shawnkelly695

    • @colonelfustercluck486
      @colonelfustercluck486 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      yes..... a big difference between being legal and being socially unacceptable. Another comment on public drinking overseas, is that if you are a pain in the arse to police (or others) while drinking in public, even if it's legal, the local police will find a legal reason to take you away for a while!!!! So; don't be a dick.....

    • @johnhiggs325
      @johnhiggs325 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Walking around in public (any country) with an open container displays a high level of complacency. Predators, to include law enforcement, are going to notice. You might as well paint a target on your back. You are signaling that your reaction time, ability to accurately access your surroundings, and ability to respond appropriately are impaired.

    Went to Bangkok Harley as I ride and collect random t-shirts and poker chips. The HD dealership cannot sell "collectable" poker chips, solely because they represent a gambling devise. Kinda sucked, but their country, their rules.

    Universal rule everywhere in the world is just behave. I know that there are some strange rules in some places but pointing out things like don't urinate, throw out your garbage or insult locals, their values or royal family only shows the mental state of modern society. It is also illegal to deface currency in the US. According to 18 U.S. Code § 331....
    Whoever fraudulently alters, defaces, mutilates, impairs, diminishes, falsifies, scales, or lightens any of the coins coined at the mints of the United States, or any foreign coins which are by law made current or are in actual use or circulation as money within the United States; or
    Whoever fraudulently possesses, passes, utters, publishes, or sells, or attempts to pass, utter, publish, or sell, or brings into the United States, any such coin, knowing the same to be altered, defaced, mutilated, impaired, diminished, falsified, scaled, or lightened-
    Shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than five years, or both.
    So it's illegal here to and if your caught you could face up to 5 years in prison.

    The feet head thing doesn't come from buddhist teachings it is a thai thing that they attached to Buddhism, in reality there is no such dharma. The money thing is don't put your foot on money to stop it blowing away if you drop it because it has the kings head printed on it...again a thai thing. The rule about Buddha images is about antiques only leaving the country.. When I arrived here over 30 yrs ago it was rude to show tattoos so we all wore long sleeve shirts.

    The modesty law is why it's easy to recognize a ladyboy. As long as they have some sort of covering on, it's legal, but a woman has to be extra careful not to show the nipple. Banning commando makes sure a ladyboy is not flashing anyone and for tourists, your junk isn't falling out whilst riding a bike. You can also be fined for excessive kissing in public. You'll notice that Thais don't kiss or hold hands unless they are somewhere more private or its holding a childs hand. And never touch a Thai of any age on their head. And back to the modesty law, absolutely no swimwear is worn off the beach, especially bikini tops- most thesis will still wear a t-shirt over their bikini top because of the modesty laws

    At some point any and every sane person, hear's, is informed, etc. etc. etc. an old phrase which goes; "When in Rome, do as the Roman's do". American's though generally take it as just an old phrase and don't remember or just don't know or sometime care. That every country in the world has their own set's of rules, regualion's and local, state and other such term's law's that are mandated to be followed to the N-th degree or their will be ramification's. And no where in the world is there in any court, ignorance of any rule, regulation or law, regardless of what it is, is "NO EXCUSE". A fact that though should be taken litterally, American's generally don't. Though every country in the world have the same ideaology of what "INALIENABLE RIGHT'S" are. They really only apply to citizen's of the country your presently at. American's are allowed to practice their version of "INALIENABLE RIGHT'S" are in America. But because they are simular but can be as different as day is to night. Are mandated to be followed to the "T" in the country your at, not the one your from.

      I don't think its just Americans that act stupid in other Countries. I suspect its a people thing. I will admit however that if you go to another Country you better think long and hard and decide are you willing to pay the Price before breaking their laws. From what little bit I've seen online it seems like some Countries can and will get pretty rough if you break their laws.
