Great review, Nick! It looks like this board is so close to being perfect, but it also seems to me the best solution is still purchasing a/or using your current Samsung Galaxy phone (even an S10 would do), getting a decent USB-C dock, and either using DeX or installing a TV launcher to end up with a more powerful solution. Sure, the form factor is not the same, but in the end, a Galaxy phone would take care of all the drawbacks this board has and still far superior in terms of performance. So much potential, though!
I've come to the realization that the setup using your mobile phone is not the best solution for the non-tech savvy or wire sensitive users. So having an Android box type device with a case and ports with powerful hardware would be a more acceptable solution. Whilst a high-end Samsung galaxy phone will blow the competition away, some might find it cumbersome to set up to have running right next to your TV, hence why I have turned my attention to ARC and SBC boards.
@@tvboxstop point taken, Nick. No reflection on your part. I think it's wonderful that you share all these tech reviews with the community. I think it's more of a reflection of my own frustration to not see a true solution for the Android box space in which a device meets the most basic features and then some. Keep up the awesome work, bro!
The VIM4 has been out for a while now, so I'm not that confident about fixes coming along. 12 months ago this might have looked to have potential but now that the RK3588/S boards are out, it doesn't look like a great purchase, especially a what has to be seen as an uncompetitive price. I've seen a few too many negative reviews from the company that make that case and missing the NVME access option was embarrassing.
That's going to be difficult to find as production stopped on that second model for quite a while now. That's just how to TV Box industry functions. The manufacturing of a particular chipset only continues until its compatible Android version last. For example is that chipset was designed to run on Android 9 operating system, when Android 10 or 11 releases that chipset will not be compatible with those versions. Hence they will move one to manufacturing the next chipset that's compatible. And as time progresses the previous chipset will become irrelevant and incompatible with some of the latest updates of apps on the play store.
every time I buy an Android TV Box, something doesn't go as expected. My first device was h96 mini had slow storage and ended up being hard bricked. secondly, bought the same type h96 mini, only has single wifi support unlike the specs written and youtube crash. Now I'm experiencing it again. Bought second hand a95x f3 slim 4G/32GB, doesn't have 5ghz wifi support as it should and bluetooth controller often doesn't respond during use, at first i hope this box have vulkan support but it is not 😩
If you want a solid TV Box with no issues of what you are referring to simply go with a low-end or high-end Ugoos or TOX model. Buying second-hand boxes I would never recommend. It's better you spend your money and by the good stuff.
Almost there just a few features they need to iron out
Yeah.....The Price!!!!!
Best channel about TV box android 👍🏼

What's friend long time. Yes the VIM4 is right up there with the best

NOT FOR ME NIC. I PREFER A COMPLETELY FINISHED BOX. GREAT REVIEW AS ALWAYS MY BROTHER.
Awesome video as usual. Now this is seriously cool and could be a nice project as I love the looks of everything.
It looks great but I prefer an active cooling fan case as the passive cooling is not as effective at keeping temperatures down.

Thanks for your input as always
Thank you for your efforts!
How about USB audio output? Is it supported, and are there any limitations regarding the sampling rate?
I couldn't test that because I don't have a USB sound card sorry
Omg...both hardware and software are coming along..let's hope they work on the cons sooner...thanks nick..😁😁😁👍👍👍

So close.
Nice job on this video.
Could you do a video running on coreelec?
My focus is really on Android TV Box simulation, and to me the CoreElec interface doesn't offer much in terms of apps and games.

Can you make a tutor for activating vulkan on any S905X3? Is it possible?
You don't activate Vulkan, Vulkan is part of the manufacturers firmware and only the can implement it.
@@tvboxstop Yeah, like a custom rom maybe possible. Can you please show vulkan device check on every next video. Thank's 👍
Is there a Way to controll IT whit a phone?
You can try teamviewer for mobile
