    This is the most satisfied I have been to use an Android device that not only outperforms the competition but looks great and is compatible with Google play services. Only if it wasn't so expensive more people could enjoy it also. It even outperforms the Nvidia Shield.

      yeah, but is it going to receive 7 years of support like the Shield TV?
      These "Tv Boxes" are great for hobbyists though, I just wish I had more 💲💲 😂

    RK3588 is a capable SOC, some of the things it can do:
    1. Decoding & Rendering 16 1080p h264 stream th-cam.com/video/Ew4ZMljSIZI/w-d-xo.html
    2. yolov5 detection object against 3 1080p streams th-cam.com/video/ZWeFYyx0pio/w-d-xo.html

    I have yet to see an RK3588 device that has full Koi support. HDR 10 bit X265 only shows a green screen and hardware acceleration is also only partial. The Edge 2 is quite expensive in comparison with the competition. The one thing that Khadas does have that is useful is OOWOW but that, for me, is not enough to make this model an attractive buy when there are better options out there.

    schedutil governor is smart enough to go performance level, as well as go powersave level, there's really no need to switch to performance.

    So in terms of HDR, it only cannot do Dolby Vision ? I wonder if AV1 would be possible on some other firmware image, maybe some linux distro.

    • @tvboxstop
      @tvboxstop  ปีที่แล้ว

      The best hope for Dolby vision would have been under the OpenFyde firmware. However that firmware when I tested does not have the developer Widevine feature to facilitate premium features such as Dolby vision. So it's still a work in progress.

    Great review Tv Box Stop. Amazing box but overpriced. Do you know if Ugoos is developing a box with this SOC?. I would be very interested.

    I would prefer NanoPi 6RC over this, it also has RK3588 , it has ethernet port and it even has M2 SSD slot. Only minus is that it doesn`t have Wifi module but it is an easy fix if needed. NanoPi already has many different versions of OS including Ubuntu, Arch and even Android 12 TV version. Its price is much cheaper than Khadas Edge 2 , around 150$

    • @tvboxstop
      @tvboxstop  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yes it has the same chipset. Maybe I'll get my hands on the NanoPi 6RC and do a side-by-side comparison, but from doing a visual assessment and looking at ETA Prime's review of it, If I had to choose without price being a factor I would still go with the Khadas Edge2 if I was seeking to use an ARM mini PC as an Android box connected to my TV, based on its appearance, Wi-Fi 6, and cooling features. Your comment is most welcomed as it challenged me to look into your claim. I like that.👍

    • @S_G_86
      @S_G_86 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@tvboxstop yes I saw his review as well. I think Khadas is charging a bit premium only for their appearance and better case design but removing Ethernet port is a big minus for me. There is also Orange Pi 5 plus which could be even a better option because it has 2 M2 slots (one is for Wifi card and other for SSD). It has 2 HDMI out and 1 HDMI in as I remember. And currently including all Wifi card + eMMC modules + SD card + case is around 180-190$ as I remember. OrangePi software development is going even better than NanoPi as I know. There are so many options coming in this year with this amazing chipset, I'm glad that this year there is a big improvement in terms of performance for Android TV boxes

    • @S_G_86
      @S_G_86 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      By the way I understand why there are fewer ports in Khadas (like no ethernet port or no M2 slot) because they are using a cost effective version of RK3588 which is RK3588s. NanoPi or OrangePi uses RK3588 , if you can get your hands on with one of them it would be really interesting to see the performance and Android TV ROM comparison.

    It's just always so disappointing. When I want to watch my HDR/Dolby Vision movie collections, I'm simply forced to buy either an Nvidia Shield TV Pro or a Homatics R 4K Plus Box from Dune. The latest Chromecast from Google can play HDR and Dolby Vision, but it has a network connection that's too slow to buffer my movie collection quickly enough. Even DIY solutions with Raspberry Pi and other single-board computers severely limit the usage of streaming services. But it's still a great and interesting Video👍

    • @tvboxstop
      @tvboxstop  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I believe the issue with Dolby Vision license is that Dolby only allows their feature to be installed on a TV streaming device product. In their opinion, an SBC board is not an official TV streaming device.

    • @tvboxstop
      @tvboxstop  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes to get that you would have to sacrifice the mobile version and root access. Also that firmware cannot be a removable operating system to obtain the certification from Google and a Netflix. So unless someone has a modified version that can can work on Widevine Level 3 with your subscription to grant HD and 4K it's not going to happen on the mobile version without HDCP protection.

    These boxes don't make sense to me. A Firestick 4K Max has more functionality and capabilities. I don't understand the fascination with these overpriced devices when you have to make so many compromises. IJS

    • @tvboxstop
      @tvboxstop  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      A fire stick can come nowhere close to the performance of this SBC board. That is not a proper comparison. This is not a full-fledged TV Box but and SBC board that has multiple operating systems as well as functions. This board can be used in robotics and for Ai. The fire stick can't do any of those.

    • @muziky2k

      @@tvboxstop Fair point if you're buying it to run other OSs. However, tell me the value of the RK3588s vs the Intel N97? I can buy the GMKtec N97 for $150, which has better performance and better software support than this unit. Have you compared the two?

    • @tvboxstop
      @tvboxstop  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@muziky2k The GMKtec N97 is a Windows Mini PC running on Intel's hardware, and the Edge2 runs on Amlogic ARM hardware which totally different. You have more flexibility and performance with the Windows Mini PC, but you will not have access to an Android operating system like you would on the Edge2 unless you know how to run Android x86 which is a modified version of Android designed to run on Windows but it's still in development so there are always bugs.
