    Great ranking Mike! When it comes to Reign In Blood, I think it perspective. For myself, I had been listening to Show No Mercy and Hell Awaits for a while before RIB came out. So, I was used to the song writing and production of those two albums. I got RIB the week it came out. I put the cassette in my Walkman and was jaw dropped blown away! Rick Rubin’s production stripped away all of that unnecessary reverb and Tom’s vocals were laser focused. That production made Slayer even scarier! Made them seem real as opposed to the horror movie vibe of the two previous albums. So, I think that’s why so many people put RIB in such high regard. The leap they took was astronomical! Still my number one. Great video!

    • @metalmickey

      Yeah that change in production is just what I needed otherwise I'd not be interested in them I don't think. Cheers mate

    Great ranking, Mike. Valid point about the production on the early stuff, which now I actually don't mind but could never fully get on board with back in the day, so when RIB was released it was almost like discovering a new animal, an animal that wanted to rip your face off, and I loved it. I'm definitely going to be spinning Divine Intervention today because it has been a while, and it is an absolute monster 🤘

      Haha yes in a way I was pleased it took me ages with RiB because I had plenty to listen to back then but now not so much. I'm playing SoH again to see if it can catch up lol

    Really glad to see a ranking video sir! I always enjoy hearing different opinions on these albums. I think that a lot of people assume that everyone starts with a bands discography at the beginning and then picks up everything in chronological order. What is going on when you buy an album can often influence your appreciation of the music. Nostalgia is a hard thing to explain. Great video buddy, Seasons is number one for me!🤘

    I need to have a Slayer day after you spinning off all these songs! Brings back some memories for sure. Every album after Divine Intervention I'd never heard until 2017 and I didn't even know Jeff had died but Undisputed Attitude was a bigger shock definitely not an album I will play again for sure.
    For me I've always put SNM number 1 but if I listened to them all again in succession who knows? Good chance it would come top because of the nostalgia that's attached with it for me. 🤘🏻

    Good to hear your thoughts on these albums Mike. Interesting to hear about when you came across different albums. World painted blood is an ok album, I quite like it. Reign, South and Seasons were the albums I heard first at a mates house, so I hold them in high regard. Probably a band I need to go deeper into I think, in the mean time this has inspired me to listen to some Slayer later on.

    @BeardyRedViking ปีที่แล้ว

    Great video, Mike!
    Divine Intervention is a great album, but I can't see it making number 1 in too many other ranking lists, and that is what makes these things interesting!
    The first Slayer album I ever bought was God Hates Us All, as it came out right around the time I was getting into the more extreme end of things. I still love it, along with Divine Intervention and Reign In Blood, which were my next 2. Admittedly it's not as strong as either of those other 2 though, nor Seasons, South of Heaven or, for me, Hell Awaits, which I adore.
    Show No Mercy has never really grabbed me in the same way the rest of their catalogue has. As you say, it's VERY NWOBHM-sounding!
    Cheers! 🤘

    Great ranking, out of the ordinary! I still cannot get how someone would say Reign is better than Seasons, but I have started appreciating Reign lately, like you. I also believe Divine is very underrated. I have one disagreement though: I adore Show No Mercy. It is not really a Slayer album, but that mix of heavy metal with fragments of future Slayer, makes it very appealing to me!

    • @metalmickey

    Divine Intervention. Hmm. I had stopped listening to Slayer at that point...til I saw posters of the new Slayer album coming out June 6th of '06, lol. Have a copy of Christ Illusion. Don't dig it. I can however enjoy World Painted Blood for some reason.

    Great ranking Mike, yep that run of albums from Reign to Divine is where it is for me. It is great to see a heap of love for Divine Intervention. I thought I was the only person that loved that album...wasn't much thrash going around 94, so they were going against the trend at the time.

    • @metalmickey

    Very Interesting Mike. So chuffed that Reign in Blood has finally clicked for you. Brutal album, blew me away when my mate bought it on US import, for £30, before it got released in the UK, so me and him had to go see them in Manchester Apollo on that tour. Now I have to admit, just like Rust in Peace by Megadeth, I have never heard Devine Intervention by Slayer, I loved Seasons, then just kinda gave up on Slayer and figured they would never beat the trilogy of RIB, SOH & SITA. I did see them live , some time in the 90's, supported bt The Haunted ( although I guess it could have been in the 2000's ) just didn't buy any other Slayer records till Repentless, and then it was coz I was going to see them on the final tour, so picked up that and God Hates us, to catch up on some new songs!!!

    • @metalmickey
      @metalmickey  ปีที่แล้ว

    • @rockandmetalplus5248
      @rockandmetalplus5248 ปีที่แล้ว

      @metalmickey yeah, I should pick it up, I have most of the others on cd. I've not shown it in a video yet, but I managed to snag a copy of Reign in Blood on vinyl off ebay, the 2013 US reissue, from some dude in the states, cost me £33 ( including P&P), wasn't sure it would turn up, but it did. I guess it could be a boot, but the quality is excellent, and I'm just chuffed to have it on vinyl.

    I don't think Diablus was as bad as most people think, but i'd still rate it quite low compared to the others. You were spot on about South Of Heaven, that was my entry point, it was years later that I got to like and appreciate RiB, in fact it was the GTA Vice City metal soundtrack got me listening to it. Seasons is more and more becoming my favourite, but still it's SoH by a whisker. Great ranking Mike!

    'The shitty punk album' is actually better than most of their post 1994 albums in my opinion, it's not punk song, well the originals are but Slayer play them in a thrash like way. Diabolus in Musica is kinda ass. I don't know why show no mercy and hell awaits are towards the bottom? Those are the two best albums. :O By far in my opinion, those are masterpieces of thrash.

    Good to hear your thoughts on the Slayer discography. Not a big fan of the reverby production myself. I quite like 'Christ Illusion', 'God Hates Us All' and 'World Painted Blood' - I think they all sound really angry and that appealed to me back when they came out. I really like Tom Araya's voice in the second half of their discography. This is a case, I think, where aging has improved a singer's voice. He sounds angrier and more bitter, which suits their music very well. I didn't get 'Seasons in the Abyss' back in the day. It was the first Slayer album I heard, and it just didn't click with me so I went several years not liking Slayer. Of course now I love the album, but back then I just didn't get it. :-/

Haven't listened to it since. The main stuff I liked was from Seasons or South of Heaven. I'll still listen to some of the songs from those albums occasionally, but I've never felt overly compelled to listen to the newer stuff.
