Sting and Wayne Shorter received the Polar Music Prize on June 15, 2017 at a ceremony at Konserthuset Stockholm in Sweden. Several artists honored the Laureates together with the The Royal Stockholm Philarmonic Orchestra, led by maestro Hans Ek.
Artists performing in tribute to Sting and Wayne Shorter, included Gregory Porter ( • Gregory Porter perform... ), Jennie Abrahamson, Lennart Åberg, Marius Neset, José Feliciano, Jelena Krstic, Josefin Runsteen, Ane Brun ( • Ane Brun and friends p... ), Linnea Olsson, Fredrik Ljungqvist and The Tallest Man On Earth ( • The Tallest Man On Ear... ).
José Feliciano also read the citation for Sting ( • Sting receives the Pol... ):
"The 2017 Polar Music Prize is awarded to the singer, musician and composer Sting, real name Gordon Sumner, from Wallsend in Northumberland. Sting grew up in a shipyard town in northeastern England. As a child his thoughts and dreams roamed as far as the ships that sailed from his town. Internal and external travel has also characterised his music. As a member of the trio The Police, and later as a solo artist, Sting has never sat back and rested on his laurels; he has put down his anchor in more musical harbours than perhaps any other artist of his generation. As a composer, Sting has combined classic pop with virtuoso musicianship and an openness to all genres and sounds from around the world. Sting is a true citizen of the world, who has also been indefatigable in using his position as an arena-filling artist to promote human rights."
The Polar Music Prize was founded in 1989 by the late Stig ”Stikkan” Anderson, one of the true greats in the history of popular music. As the publisher, lyricist and manager of ABBA, he played a key role in their enormous success. Its name stems from Anderson’s legendary record label, Polar Music.
The Polar Music Prize is one of the most prestigious and unique music prizes in the world, crossing over musical boundaries and awarded to individuals, groups and institutions in recognition of exceptional achievements.

Andrea Ssspo your hilarious comment cured mine! 🤣🤣🤣
Okay YOU win the internet today. Usurping that "defund the Police" guy from before!
Papa bless, police navidad!
I think it caused Sting’s though 😅
Reminds me of that tragedy
I dont know if its a good thing or a bad thing that Jose Feliciano couldnt and wont ever actually see Sting's face reaction to this.
Both are protected, and no one would ever be able to explain to Jose about face expression, gestures, embarrassment, or body language!!! Sting could say of Jose, that it was a nice try!!!
, @@davido3026, no the Best of jose , but the guys is a legend, felicidades
Sting's reactions make this one of the greatest videos I've ever experienced in my lifetime.
ROR! 😂
The shredding guitar solo and that diva with her eyes always on her lyric sheets (singing like three lines of words or what), priceless
She's trying to avoid the gaze of the audience
Its actually a lot and difficult to memorize:
Every breath you take
Every move you make
Every bond you break
Every step you take
Every single day
Every word you say
Every game you play
Every night you stay
Every move you make
Every vow you break
Every smile you fake
Every claim you stake
Every breath you take
Can you remember all that in order?
The quick multiple blinking, the rub of the cheek with his finger, and then the big gulp, by sting is hysterical around 49 second mark
Sting truly was the King of Pain at that moment.
How many turned it down before this guy was phoned.
That is one brilliant comment
Yes, excellent remark😂

I agree. She's known and loved him a long time.

She is watching every breath he takes!!! Every move he fakes!!!
What a wedding song!!!
Poor Sting !! Jose Feliciano is the LAST person you want to be singing your song.
I can see sting is just hoping it ends soon. LOL 😂
It’s awesome how as soon as the song starts, the audience is cheering and clapping and bouncing along but then Jose starts singing and by the end, everyone is just frozen in shock, except that one lady who seems to be loving the whole thing.
She is deaf.
Once the guitars come in…
That's Victoria of Sweden. Her husband on her left and her parents the king and queen of Sweden on her right. It seems that her poor taste in music wasn't passed on from her father, seeing his uneasiness

3:22 "Doesn't matter where you gooooo... "
No disrespect to Jose Feliciano, but how did this get approved? I agree from comments below, "...I'll be watching you?" Really? Out of Stings entire library of incredible songs, this one was chosen for Jose Feliciano? I would really love to know the true meaning behind this selection. As some comments said, Jose must not like Sting too much, or is it "You better perform this song our you won't be involved in this event." My opinion, its at 2:28 when Sting looks down then covers up a smile, is when he realized the song choice. Before that it was just a man watching his song being preformed..."differently."
The best way to kill a masterpiece
Props to Sting for being a gentleman and sitting through this performance.
He endured every breath, and every move.
He watched it.
And now he's going on a killing spree.

All those professionals and not one of them said "hey, this isn't working".... amazing.

Thank you to Polar Music Prize for not deleting the comment section 😂
I think José is one of the greatest most versatile performers ever, and I also think he must not like Sting or have much respect for him... That was brutal 😀
Hey, Jose...Sting is really fucking pretentious and up his own ass!...Don't worry I will do something about that !!!
It's an awful arrangement. Feliciano is a virtuoso guitar player and has an aging voice. Not sure why he was given the gig? Doesn't make sense.
@@pjuggle a respect thing is my guess 🤷
😂😂😂😂
Worst song he could have chosen for his style..
This performance was absolutely perfect in a way that absolutely nothing was in sync: the music, Jose, the back-up vocalist, tempo, NOTHING. A perfect trainwreck.
Jose does alot of stutter-stepping with time signatures in his songs, and its
usually ad-libbed. works alot of the time but this song relies on keeping the
same meter throughout. when the meter is interrupted, it sticks out like a
sore thumb. Sting was visibly wincing at this.
3:12 That side glance Trudy gives Sting is hilarious. She's dying to see his reaction without making it so obvious.
@Wenander yes it’s his wife Trudy Styler
Luckily the botox means she can't smile
@mudfly3DAMN that’s a brutal roast. Sad but true
@mudfly3 That's a bit mean. She was hit by a car and suffered facial injuries when she was little and had to suffer through multiple plastic surgeries as a child.
And Sting showed grace with a smile and a clap at the end. He may have been feeling really bad for Jose through that performance.
This was excruciating. Heaven knows the Polar prize folks could've flown anyone all the way over to impress and delight Sting...and this was the result?!?
The slight head shake No at 2:02 during the solo 😂
My life has changed forever and will never be the same. This really was stunning i mean stinging.. 💔

Ok...now I gotta see Sting sing Feliz Navidad.

He would nail it with surgical precision because that is the kind of artist Sting is.
people getting triggered, i get it, you mean that Sting singing Feliz Navidad would be funny just for the possible revenge of him butchering Jose Feliciano's song just from spite lol
Jajajajaja!, si, seguro que tambièn suena como el culo en su boca
You can see him bracing for impact until the end. And then, MIRACLE, the song ends without crashing and burning.
It had already lost the engines and was in free fall into a mountain face before it ended. The snow on the peaks stopped it from burning ;)
@@patrickelliott-brennan8960😂 great comment.
Man. I've never seen a performer wince in pain as someone butchered his own song in front of him before now.

I like how Sting claps like a 4yr old when its done.
:D
I've seen him clap like this many times. It's something he does. Idk why. It's like he's trying to bring awareness to mental retardation.
I love how they end it with „everything you say“, which is not even remotely part of the lyrics. This performance is a comedic masterpiece, except that it isn’t comedic and definitely not a masterpiece. Props to sting for his self control not to break. Everything about those four minutes is hilarious 😂
Jose threw that in because he- well, depends on that sense more?
I’m honestly astonished this wasn’t satire, everything just fits to create this unbearable yet hilarious piece of garbage.
This is like when your friends dad stumbles in the room drunk while you're practicing, brags about how he use to be "pretty damn good" in his day, asks to play your guitar, then belts out some shit like this thinking he's killing it.
Oh my god 😂
What an insignificant idiot you must be.
Then he asks you rub peanut butter on his toes and tells you to bark and lick it off. That was always awkward.
That was SO specific.. 🤔🤣

After reading the comments it seems that she is actually the King's daughter Victoria! God bless her enthusiasm for this classic! Lol
The "cool dudes" nodding in appreciation / tapping their feet / jangling their jewellery / getting down with the groove ...
Totally unaware that our Geordie Boy is screaming inwardly for Scotty to beam him up ..
Sting: Oh for crying out loud.
Trudie: We should try to focus on the good things.
Gustav: This is bad, I could be spending my time in a more productive way...
Daniel: This is going to be televised, gotta force that smile.
Victoria: THIS IS FUN AND COOL
Regarding the common misinterpretation of the song, he(Sting) added: "I think the ambiguity is intrinsic in the song however you treat it because the words are so sadistic. On one level, it's a nice long song with the classic relative minor chords, and underneath there's this distasteful character talking about watching every move. I enjoy that ambiguity. I watched Andy Gibb singing it with some girl on TV a couple of weeks ago, very loving, and totally misinterpreting it. (Laughter) I could still hear the words, which aren't about love at all. I pissed myself laughing."-Sting
We've ALWAYS called this the stalker song!
It's written in the blueish A- flat major; the cold key of death itself. // Also, I just looked up that performance of Andy Gibb on the weekly Solid Gold show, and I was shocked that indeed, they tried to sing it like a love song, but also they sang in E-flat, which is a bright, sort of yellow-orange key to my ear. That key is reserved more for songs about awakening, or coming to a certain realization. Again, even that key did not fit the original intention of the song. (The best love songs are in C. Red. Like a rose.) I feel like Sting's "Every Breath You Take" is borderline GOD "watching you." A-flat. Hard, cold truth. Blue. Also, round i shape. Unto itself. But, yes, I can certainly dig the "stalker" reference that was made.
@@Acoustic-Rabbit-Hole With the way that you describe these keys and notes, I have to ask: Do you have synesthesia? This is a condition where some senses mix in different ways, sometimes along with emotions. In your case, it seems that certain sounds are associated with certain colors.
@@jacksonhazeltine9291 Amazingly, no, I do not have synesthesia. I have a sort of perfect pitch. Where I can hear the different textures of each individual note name. For example F# sounds wobbly and very detatched, where as next to it, G suddenly becomes smooth and fluid. What I began to realize is that the energies of the notes are entirely spectral. Beginning with C as red. The great love songs are always in C. But, no, I have never seen any flashes of color or shapes. It simply makes most sense that, not only is the fludity of G best fitted for Aquamarine/Turquoise color, so does tear-drop shape fit G as well. And A loses the tail and becomes a cold sphere: Blue. But the real secret is that, i ACQUIRED perfect pitch. Simply by making careful sound observations about the texture of each notes. If you write it down and do certain comparative exercises, most anyone can learn pitch identification. You can check out some of my Musicolor charts that are embedded in my videos on my Acoustic Rabbit Hole channel here!
@d R Ask a music synesthete and I guarantee He will prove you wrong. (Especially the ones that know me).
Not so much that it's bad but this song is simple. They tried to over complicate the arrangement with the fingerstyle guitar, the orchestra and the over the top back up singing. It's too much it just doesn't fit the song.
There was actual parts that were out of harmony with the rest. Wrong chords, wrong key, wrong notes... Even off-beat. Like, holy fuck. Whoever put together the sheet music royally fucked up.
The comments made this worth the watch
1:50 Jose:"I'll distract 'em with my guitar solo from 'Light My Fire'."
This is what happens when you surround yourself with "yes" people!

Except without the familial love that would have you telling them they did great.
Jose botches the first verse, but the rest is in his style. If you watch any other performance from that night, Sting looks equally nervous/uncomfortable.
Feliz Navidad😊
Between the 2-minute 30-second and 3-minute timestamp mark, the camera focuses on the Crown Princess of Sweden dancing/swaying to the music in her seat.
Her husband is seated between her and Sting.
Sting is 26 years older than her.
She was not even 6 years old when "Every Breath You Take" was first released.
Incidentally she will be known as the queen monarch, The Queen Victoria of Sweden after her father King Gustav's reign ends.
Princess Victoria of Sweden and Prince William of UK are 5th cousins whose one common pair out of 32-pairs of great-great-great-great-grandparents was Queen Victoria & Prince Albert.
