This is a common problem with the Nissan. Along with a ringing noise in the tailgate even for hours after you turn it off.

My guess is that there’s a potentiometer that senses the position of the mechanism, and that it’s likely either bad, or rotated out of calibration. Like the computer tells it to go to the open position, but the sensor is returning an unexpected reading, and the computer aborts.
Mine just won’t open, so I need to take it apart from the inside...

I kind had a similar thought. I'm going to bench test the whole mechanism next week.

My 2017 x trail does this weird thing where the tailgate opens and goes all the way up but then sort of dies and falls a bit and then won’t close automatically, if you know any way of how to fix it I would be appreciative. Thanks :)

Wow no idea about that. Hope you already fix that. How did you remove the hatch panel? I want to fix my license plate screws stripping:(. Thanks in advance

      Same

The hatch panel is a matter of gently but firmly pulling. I ended up trading the car.

Was there an actuating event that caused your vehicle to do this? This started happening after I accidentally backed up into my garage door, which closed on me while I was getting ready to head to work. How many other folks have experienced this?

Someone shot my window out with a pellet gun so it had to go into a shop for repair and never worked after that.

@@djuggler What a bummer. It seems to me that if this is not a very well made auto part - it breaks too easily. I wonder how many vehicles it takes with a problem like this to create a recall.

Did you ever get a resolution for that. My father is having the same issue.

I'm ordering a benchtop power supply so I can work with this in the house. Give me another 2 weeks and I'll either have this, will have traded the car, or bought a new mechanism. Is your father getting moisture in the car?

I know that the dealer charge for replacing the lock mechanism is over $1000. I bought a replacement control module at $350, non-returnable, and it didn’t fix it, so I took it in to be “reprogrammed” by the dealer. Now, even after I unplug and re-plug the module, it no longer works at all. I’ll never buy another Nissan. Ever.

I loved my Nissan Leaf. But I feel like my Rogue and Versa Note made it 3 years and decided that was enough.

@Doug McCaughan The juke I am working on is having moisture inside the car. Why did you ask?
I have found the sun roof drain clogged and I am saying that is it but what have you found?

Now, is it ok. What about your solution to fix it? I get nissan x-trail same your rogue too.

Still not fixed. I found the fixed magnets in the motor have broken off. Was that the original problem? May not be. I made have broken them disassembling the motor for inspection but it looks like the magnets were crumbling. I have a leak in the front left and I think that is contributing to the initial open close open close rinse wash repeat behavior. I found a motor that looks correct on Alibaba for $100 but it doesn’t show compatibility with the Rogue and I get no response from the manufacturer. I’m either going to buy that motor or trade the car for a new one.
