I agree a little bit that Ben (aka "the jumping guy who doesn´t play anything"), can seem a bit annoying. At least when you see videos of their performances. But in some songs, like this one, he brings something extra that IMO takes the song to even higher levels of awesomeness. He does know how to get the crowd going!
I thought it was always a weird vocoder effect done in post, I never even thought to begin that it was actually a talkbox! Makes it even better knowing the fact that this was him doing the vocals live rather than just a backing track or using his regular voice
A lot of people complain about the MC but go and listen to the official video for the song. There is no comparison this live version plus the MC sound a million times more alive.
So is Rob just using a vocoder/talk box with his ztar?? What a fantastic idea. It sounds so fucking good. I would kill someone to be able to replicate it.
@trymmer it's called a "talk-box", he's playin guitar, but the sound goes through a kind of plastic tube into his mouth, so he can modulate it like an electric toothbrush. it's an old effect (maybe you know california love by coolio) but it's still awesome... and it isn't used much anymore, much less in live perfomances... love pendulum for using such non-standard methods!!
"Come on down to the other side, Come with us through the gates of hell, Where we'll drag you from where you are to where you belong." I'M LOVE IT FOREVER!
When Verse is chanting "coming down, coming down, coming down, coming DOWN!" right before the final chorus, he sort of begins to sound like he's running out of breath.
@@smokeycigarettelounge doesnt stop you having capacity, just makes the last bit of breath hurt like fuck, he did pretty good there ngl. i would have sprayed the front row with some tar lol
i think that MC makes the connection between the band and the audience. If you look to the main singer he almost doesnt move because of the effect guitar. And the MC is there to pull out the audience and stablish the connection between both. sorry for any bad english. BUT, a CRAZY BAND!!!
@TechnoWelsh the ztar doesn't really have anything to do with pianos... in essence, it's just a midi controller that is played like a guitar. So you could plug it into any synthesizer or midi sound device and use those sounds to play with. This is good for guitar players who don't want to learn to play keyboards just to be able to use electronic sounds.
Their album is starting in 2014 however theyre not going to be performing live..... Im gonna reserve my album. Real supporters should actually buy the album. Maybe if they had some money in their pocket they could do shows. Buy the album!!!!!
@sgtMaxCollin Yes, it is a synth. He leads the sound of the synth to his mouth via the tube you can see in his mouth. Then he transforms the synth sound into human voice with his mouth movement. His throat doesn't producing a single sound. Interesting isn't it?
On this track he used a talkbox: the tube attached to the mic blasts the sound of his keyboard setup into his mouth and then he basically lip-syncs the sounds to make it sound like him singing.
@oli1343 i have a banshee, but i only have one chord to plug it into my amp, but not a second chord to plug my guitar into the amp. or the other way around. so i just plug it into my amp and it creates static. and i just fuck around with the static. :P
I have question about that voice effect. As i can see it's some kind of talkbox, am i right? How is he controling pitch, by that tube or by midi? Also, does anyone know some nice talkbox that can do this kind of effect?
+Predrag Bajić By playing the instrument (Rob's Ztar) live; the voice of the instrument would go through the talkbox and goes out of the tube to Rob's mouth, then the sound is being "shaped" in his mouth so he can echo the voice back to the mic, thus hear what you hear. Some other musicians who use the talkbox is Slash from Guns n' Roses and Peter Frampton, though they play a traditional electric guitar and have live audio output. Technically speaking, the Ztar is a MIDI controller, so yeah, he is playing sample sounds from his MIDI controller to have his sound output. Last but not least, the Talkbox made by Dunlop is pretty good. Hope this helps;)
@filmmake2000 nah, the vocoder is like backstage or whatever. That pipe thing relays the sound from his mouth into the vocoder then the sound is edited.
@BecauseiBactracedit I do not really know what should you do now, cause I don't understand your problem at all, but if your tallkbox is made without a pre-amp you should connect your synth or guitar to your amp, and then from the output of the amp to the input of the tallkbox. :)
It's a device widely used for the purpose, but I don't remember the name. Google it, or search other lives with songs that include voce changing from Pendulum, I got the answer from one of them.
This band is absolutely incredible.

Who knew Pitbull was a drummer in such an awesome band...
or Joe Satriani ^^
Rob and interacting with the crowd??? holy moly
I know this is a few years later but you should see him now, it’s like a different person
Best live performance of all time
I am pretty sure I have accounted for at least 5,000 of these views. Love this song live by my favorite group.
Again i must say. Best live band.
Whether we all like the MC or not, you gotta admit, Pendulum isn't Pendulum without an MC, he's there for a reason.
FUCKING AMAZING
i love how rob and gareth still have the exact same style
Fucking awesome performance.
+CV Truly is. Absolutely spine tingling
12 years ago OH FUCK!
In silico is one of the best albums of all time
Yes it truly is

meanwhile every time gareth mcgrillen opens his mouth i want to impale my brain stem on a star picket
what he is doing is called 'emceeing'.
The Verse creates the show. Look at the people - they love him. I do too, actually
I thought it was always a weird vocoder effect done in post, I never even thought to begin that it was actually a talkbox! Makes it even better knowing the fact that this was him doing the vocals live rather than just a backing track or using his regular voice
Ben should really use a voice changer for when he does vocals for this and mutiny
A lot of people complain about the MC but go and listen to the official video for the song. There is no comparison this live version plus the MC sound a million times more alive.
i never thought that it is possible to play such electric "words" live... so i never heard of a talkbox... but it sounds really nice
I fuckin love Pendulum.Their music is always different on concerts.
If Kanye and Rob Swire had a robot singing battle, Rob could kick his ass. XD
You ain't wrong, that's for certain!
That's because Rob can actually sing lol
The drummer is insane!
Let´s create a new adjetive it´s so Pendulum.
Love Rob and Verse :D
So is Rob just using a vocoder/talk box with his ztar??
What a fantastic idea. It sounds so fucking good. I would kill someone to be able to replicate it.
it's absolutely a talkbox, you can see him put the tube in his mouth when he starts
Wait, you’d kill someone who could do it? /j

I think he's trying to replicate the album version of the song where it sorta trails off
@@JamesL42 agreed
this song is so under rated
"CKOME ON CHOWN THO THE OCHER SIDE"
That lisp always gets me.
it makes the song sound even better
Pretty sure it is to make the vowels clear over the vocoder
If you see, Rob is using a talk box to do the vocals, so actually the lisp is because there is a tube in his mouth
This is the definition of music
BRIXXXXXTONNNNNNN MAKE SOME MOTHERFUCKKKKING NOOOOOIIIIIIISEEEE

ich liebe diese band :))
A great concert, the best song!
They are amazing!
i actually enjoyed his vocals in "the vulture"
if you've actually been to a pendulum concert he gets the party pumping!
i think that MC makes the connection between the band and the audience. If you look to the main singer he almost doesnt move because of the effect guitar. And the MC is there to pull out the audience and stablish the connection between both.

I like the crowds reaction when robs like 'motherfucking rage'
honestly, you have to be there to appreciate him.

Fav song shame they don't do it live anymore
So positive and cool)
i got the @ brixton cd dvd awsome
Wonderful
Yes! Very wonderful!!! :)
Yes I am! Wish they would come to the States!
Ben was actually a British rapper before he joined Pendulum. He does some of the vocals for their songs whenever Rob isn't doing them.
@EldarZ1 I wrote it is a Banshee, and it is a Banshee but thank you :) xD but the name ofnthe company is Rocktron really ;)
i hope they will return the robot voice for rob in the new album
Agreed. But also, I think to fully understand his contribution, you need to see them live, at which point his hyping works great.
Their album is starting in 2014 however theyre not going to be performing live..... Im gonna reserve my album. Real supporters should actually buy the album. Maybe if they had some money in their pocket they could do shows. Buy the album!!!!!
I don't get your worry to categorize masterpieces like this. If you're that uneasy, create a new genre and throw these in.
For those of you who are wondering. He's using a TalkBox. Peter Frampton used one too.
Deberían volver a tocar!
I wish I was there!!! :'(
@TheRobotnikWalrus
its called a vocoder...
a few bands have used them, particularly in the 70's
sweet upload :)
Brixton fuckin Noiseeeeeeeeee Forever!!!
@slimj091 i understand completely. and if i were to ever see a live show id probably agree with you more than anyone. if only they came to florida
@adamelborn I saw them few weeks ago live @ berlin and there wasn't any MC... the singer jumped a lot therefor :D

@Zwairyz He's great for pumping the audience up and his voice isn't that bad: go check out The Vulture.
