I've had success with losing weight to control acid reflux in the past and not eating late at night. This last time I had it I tried something different. I went to bed without taking meds or having a big glass of water and had no acid reflux. Google or youtube it, but it's known that low stomach acid can cause the sphincter to not work properly and allow acid reflux. I had cut back on soda too (none at night). Still can have acid reflux if eating late at night though. If you drink soda at night and have acid reflux google that too. I think the carbonation is the main issue there.
When I started reflux meds long term (omeprazole), I started getting joint pain in my fingers. My aunt had a similar experience with joint pain. You really don't want to be on reflux meds long term, there may be side effects
Sounds like I have LPR :( how do I bring this across my doctor? Also if I have a cyst on my vocal fold would this cause my always needing to clear my throat and shorten my vocal range?
I have my own method for dealing with acid reflux. It used to be pretty serious for me, but after cutting out tomatoes, it didn't improve. What helped was taking large bottles of water, and putting lemon slices in there, then sipping it throughout the day. At first, I did it daily, eventually, I started doing it weekly and I didn't get acid reflux anymore. However, the moment I touch alcohol, I get acid reflux again. No solution at all. doesn't matter if I drink a gallon and put lemon in there. Oh well. Does my solution sound like it's alright?
Hi Cristian! Great work! We're glad that's working for you! For thoughts on your solution we suggest taking your question to Justin's live chat! More info in our Community Tab! :) -NYVC
That is a good video I'm sure will be helpfull to a lot of people. If you want a proof that you can sing even when dealing with acid reflux, go check out Lara Fabian !!
Im also suffering from acid reflux . Seriously i can't bare this anymore even my vocal range is quite good but it's ruined because of this . Now I'll try these steps .hope god will help me....so question is should I've to sing daily while having this problem ? Is it harmful for my voice? Please help me
Hi Vanita! Sometimes reflux can affect the vocal cords directly, and other times it's just the throat/surrounding area. So unless you get scoped by an ENT, there's no way for us to know how bad your reflux is and how it has affected your voice. So we really can't advise other than to just be gentle with your voice until you've got a handle on it all! If you feel any pain or you hear hoarseness, try to give your voice a rest. :) -NYVC
1:31 Where's a piano when you need on? Justin, you know you wanted push those bottom piano note after saying, "lower esophageal sphincter"! Next time you'll have to BYOP (bring your own piano).
Hi Alex! Mr. Stoney's favorite is "Your Voice- An Inside View" by Scott McCoy. Mr. Stoney also has a book coming out next Spring! We'll be sharing more about that soon, so stay tuned! -NYVC
Hello Mr. Stoney. Ive found that if I do a certain thing, it gets easier for me to reach notes and to work up and down scales and go into vocal registers. This sounds crazy, but it happens when I kinda 'place the sound right under my nose' - Does that make sence? Is this the 'mask'?
I have it it’s hard.I do everything to stop it.Theres a reflux band that you wear on your throat it will completely help cure your throat and help you sing normally
I just had to get throst surgery due to this, it's scarred my throat, and singing is my passion (I have a youtube channel, dont hate me but I'd love it if u checked out my channel lol). Hopefully it'll get a little better xd

Great points EQ! Yes it can definitely be caused by low stomach acid. We're so glad you're finding ways to navigate it well! -NYVC
