And my understanding is that one can increase their knowledge, but not their intelligence - though perhaps this has been challenged. lately. Anyhow, I do know the kinds of questions on a Mensa test, and they are about pattern recognition, and the like, but not about knowledge in and of itself. Unfortunately, terms, concepts, associations/relations are often conflated by those who don't fully contemplate them. Oh well.

I don’t miss Letterman and grouping him in with Carson is an insult to Carson. Carson was at least funny. Letterman was a narcissistic jerk whose one great accomplishment was to make it fashionable for middle aged men to continue to act sophomoric. He was a negative influenced of the culture while Carson was a credit to it. Carson’s show was light and healthy and appealed to the better side of us while Letterman’s was dark and disturbing and appealed to the baser side of our nature. His humor was ascerbic and biting. He tore down while Carson built up.

Letterman, starting at 12:30, & being based in New York, was more experimental, more about parodying the whole genre. Carson always favored Letterman, & wanted him to succeed him as the host, but the network preferred Leno.

This was an interview with a child genius. Meanwhile, a fellow commented that this interview was a (waist), a (waist) of time. How wonderfully amusing. She was tiny, and so she had a tiny waist, but I didn't see this as a waste of time, not at all.

Asking someone a list of basic, fact-based questions doesn't tell you how smart they are. It only tells you what they've memorized. It was a cute interview but I clicked to see a demonstration of how she was a genius. I'm disappointed he didn't do a little more with that, but oh well

My friend's brother goes on to say that most Americans these days can answer question 2 but not question 1, and how this was proof that America has gotten stupid. Of course I recognized his argument as being heavily flawed because these questions has absolutely nothing to do with intelligence. But he was one of those people who had such confidence that they are right even if they are not
I scored in the top 1% of societal intelligence quotient and I live a normal fulfilling life. I love God so I'm happy being me. My family turned down mensa when I was in the 1st grade. Some local college professors had me put in the paper for understanding vast chemicals and their interactions, also in the 1st grade. I hope my daughter is more intelligent than I and does something good to benefit humanity.
I always wondered how you can determine that a 4 year old kid is a genius. I would assume that it would be primarily by assessing their problem solving skills as how much have they seen at such an early age. Come on knowing who is the president is not a sign of cleverness even at 4 years old. One thing for sure she is lovely and look very happy a good start in life.
I was tested at age Six sitting age appropriate puzzles and problem solving questions. I am gifted, an abstract thinker. However, I didn't have pushy parents.
When I was tested at age 5, it was with the Stanford-Binet instrument. Like Thomson I was asked age-appropriate questions and did puzzles. I also read out loud the notes that the woman facilitating the tests wrote on her paper - in cursive, and upside down to me, sitting across from her. The woman didn't believe I could possibly do that, so she wrote more and I read it back to her from across the table again. I ended up scoring a 144 on my intelligence test - and still play Scrabble upside down to this day!
I was tested at the age of 4, in the 1950s. At that age, I could read my dad’s doctoral thesis - I didn’t know what all the words meant, but I could read it. The only part I clearly remember is being shown pictures of different piles of blocks and had to quickly say how many blocks were in each; it was easy and fun!

Yea. Dave showed his partisan side even back then. Tell me, was Dan Quayle wrong when he was highly criticized and attacked for saying that the breakdown of the family unit would lead to a breakdown in society? All the smarmy leftist late night show hosts should be embarrassed for their highly vocal opinions regarding people and things they were so clearly wrong about. How many of them would ever admit their extremely poor errors in judgement? I'm guessing not one of them....

It came on at 11:30 pm. I had to get up for work at 6:30 am. I couldn't do that today on 5-1/2 hours of sleep.

Dave was great with kids in his own way. Always treated them nice, and would throw in a few jokes over there heads that the adults would get, without being inappropriate.

1. Who lives on Pennsylvania Avenue? (I didn't know)
2. Who lives in a pineapple under the sea? (I said SpongeBob SquarePants)
Apparently The White house is on Pennsylvania Avenue so the correct answer is that the president lives on Pennsylvania Avenue.
My friend's brother goes on to say that most Americans these days can answer question 2 but not question 1, and how this was proof that America has gotten stupid.
Of course I recognized his argument as being heavily flawed because these questions has absolutely nothing to do with intelligence. But he was one of those people who had such confidence that they are right even if they are not

I scored in the top 1% of societal intelligence quotient and I live a normal fulfilling life. I love God so I'm happy being me. My family turned down mensa when I was in the 1st grade. Some local college professors had me put in the paper for understanding vast chemicals and their interactions, also in the 1st grade. I hope my daughter is more intelligent than I and does something good to benefit humanity.
I always wondered how you can determine that a 4 year old kid is a genius. I would assume that it would be primarily by assessing their problem solving skills as how much have they seen at such an early age. Come on knowing who is the president is not a sign of cleverness even at 4 years old. One thing for sure she is lovely and look very happy a good start in life.
I was tested at age Six sitting age appropriate puzzles and problem solving questions. I am gifted, an abstract thinker. However, I didn't have pushy parents.
When I was tested at age 5, it was with the Stanford-Binet instrument. Like Thomson I was asked age-appropriate questions and did puzzles. I also read out loud the notes that the woman facilitating the tests wrote on her paper - in cursive, and upside down to me, sitting across from her. The woman didn't believe I could possibly do that, so she wrote more and I read it back to her from across the table again. I ended up scoring a 144 on my intelligence test - and still play Scrabble upside down to this day!

I was tested at the age of 4, in the 1950s. At that age, I could read my dad’s doctoral thesis - I didn’t know what all the words meant, but I could read it. The only part I clearly remember is being shown pictures of different piles of blocks and had to quickly say how many blocks were in each; it was easy and fun!
It's hard not to like such a cute kid.
All Dave needs is kid to goof around with and he's gold.
