    South Africa's Cameron Van Der Burgh sets a new world record of 58.46 as he wins the gold medal in the men's 100m breaststroke event at the London 2012 Olympic Games (29 July).
    Australia's Christian Spenger and the USA's Brendan Hansen won the silver and bronze medals at the event held in the aquatics centre.
    Swimming has featured on the programme of all editions of the Games since 1896. The very first Olympic events were freestyle (crawl) or breaststroke. Backstroke was added in 1904.
    In the 1940s, breaststrokers discovered that they could go faster by bringing both arms forward over their heads. This practice was immediately forbidden in breaststroke, but gave birth to butterfly, whose first official appearance was at the 1956 Games in Melbourne. This style is now one of the four strokes used in competition.
    Women's swimming became Olympic in 1912 at the Stockholm Games. Since then, it has been part of every edition of the Games. The men's and women's programmes are almost identical, as they contain the same number of events, with only one difference: the freestyle distance is 800 metres for women and 1,500 metres for men.

    If you see at 5:08 ,really everybody does it, but maybe not that obvious. Also Sprenger does it who claims that Van der Burgh did it. If Sprenger would have broken the world record it would have been the same except that Van der Burgh wouldn't accuse Sprenger of doing it because he's an honest man and also told everybody that he did that extra dolphin kick...

    somebody's mad... the reason you can do any dolphin kicks at all is that people started breaking the rules and doing them. youve got to push the limits of the sport so it can live and change. and in case you didnt notice sir, they all did it and none of them got caught so its completely fair

  • @coloneldreamgamerz10
    @coloneldreamgamerz10 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Well actually I think that was a part of the dive when he did the extra kick. I think when he said he cheated, he meant he accidentally did an extra dolphin kick after diving. His legs appeared to be in a position where you had to move your legs and if you don't do the extra dolphin kick, you will slow your dive down a lot. So he was kind of at a stalemate.

      According to FINA, breaststrokes swimmers can only perform one dolphin kick only during the long breaststroke after every turn and takeoff. But you're right, they both did another movement when hit the water. In my opinion, judges considered those as part of the dive in phase ...

      He takes 3 dolphin kicks immediately on the dive once he hits the water, which is illegal. He even has the shit balls to admit it afterwards like an asshole, and claim that others do it as well (see my multitude of comments below for an explanation as to why this is false and only he and Scozzoli do any actual illegal kicks). Unfortunately, because underwater cameras are not admitted in the rules for judging (as it would be far too expensive for pools to buy them to meet the rule's demands) he was able to keep his undeserved medal.

    • @bobajmo
      @bobajmo 10 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You're really stupid aren't you... Underwater cameras show that he only took 1 dolphin kick on his pull down. He would've been caught and DQed if he took 3 dolphin kicks, which can be clearly seen that he only took one.

    • @ODX_Animation
      @ODX_Animation 10 ปีที่แล้ว +22

      Justin Mo
      Actually no, I'm not. He takes 3 dolphin kicks, him and Scozzoli. I'm (fancy this) a swimmer myself and can see these things (I also have an 'animators eye' which lets me see motion in greater detail). It is quite clear to me, and really it should be to anyone else, that at 3:32 Cameron Van Der Burgh takes 3 illegal dolphin kicks before his pullout.
      The reason he was not caught by officials is he did them at the entrance where bubbles and splashes covered his tracks. And then you might say "okay, you're totally right and I apologize for calling you stupid, but they could just catch him with the camera right now."
      Ah you see, underwater cameras are not allowed for the use of judgement under FINA rules. Why don't they? Because if they did, every pool running competitions under FINA (aka, pretty much everyone in one way or another. Ex: NCAA derives most rules from FINA), would be required to buy an underwater camera(s) for the use of judgement and this is not in everyone's paycheck to afford. "So why not at least allow it at the higher levels so assholes like Van Der Burgh don't do this shit?" At least according to my coach, as is this entire reason, because if they did that then people growing up would cheat and learn that they could get away with it. Then once they hit these higher levels, BAM, they get fucked over and are able to say "well I didn't learn it this way so that wasn't really fair." Given, in my opinion, you should just follow the damn rules and be a fair sport, but I can see how this argument would work.
      So, am I still stupid?

      An animator's eye, at least what I'm calling it, is an attunement to motion that I've gained from having animated first person weapons for 3 or so years. I'm able to see much more detail in a video/motion than other people might be able to. After having looked at animations for so long, both mine and others, you're able to put the major (gross or overall) motions into the back of your head and then notice the more minor (fine or little) motions going on.
      That explain it?

    The dolphin kick part is true though, and to be fair, almost everyone in that race should've been DQed. I saw 3 (very fast) fly kicks from everyone you could see from the underwater cam.

    FINA really shouldn't have allowed dolphin kicks in the first place. It causes controversy like this.

    • @guyskillen
      @guyskillen 10 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      No, this is unrelated to the dolphin kick used in the pullout. Allowing that single dolphin kick was sensible due to the natural body movement when pulling the arms after the dive - though people are misusing the rule and doing it before the arms, which maybe shouldn't be allowed. These kicks are a part of the dive as such, and obviously practiced - which makes it calculated and cheating (though I'm sure we agree on that part).

    • @randomchannel-px6ho
      @randomchannel-px6ho 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think they should allow one before the pull and one during, but for now just do 1

    I almost guarantee that you're wrong. Kitajima is from Japan, a country of honor. He would never stoop to such a low level as these other few breaststrokers have. And no, he did not intentionally do that butterfly kick back in Athens 2004. Kitajima's style is beautiful and flows, the kick was a natural part to that style during the pullout. He has perfected that pullout and would never change it now.

    In my opinion, I don't think van der Burgh did it on purpose. One of the techniques used by some swimmers is to do a fly kick on the surface of the water on the dive (which is legal). Sometimes this results in an involuntary continuation of movement in your legs, which can result in what you saw at 3:31.
    Not saying he shouldn't have been DQed, just trying to explain a possible cause. My respect for South African sportsmen continues knowing van der Burgh admitted to the extra kicks.

    I don't because he admitted the reason he did it was to cheat after he had won the gold medal, even being as stuck up to claim "everyone else is doing it and if you don't you fall behind." Okay, alright let's watch that little clip again at 3:30.
    Huh, looks like (at least as much as we can see) only Van Der Burgh and Scozzoli are doing it, and the top half of the pool isn't. Funny.

  • @ODX_Animation
    @ODX_Animation 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Sorry, but that's actually a horrible excuse. When you're a professional, world-class breaststroker, you race breaststroke races most of your competitions. You should be used to staying streamlined. Also, in no race but a 50 free would you start your streamline with such fast dolphin kicks as you hit the surface (aka, to HIDE them in an ILLEGAL WAY). Sure, some swimmers use it, but rarely. The only reason for it here was to cheat and gain a small advantage.

  • @malows1234
    @malows1234 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    no, not everyone did. look at all the lanes, a few people actually didnt. and your completely wrong about breaking the rules. when people first started doing dolphin kicks, namely kitajima, There was no rule forbidding it,the rule came later stating that only one dolphin kick maybe done off the starts and walls. this guy ACTUALLY broke a rule that is in the rulebook. thats not pushing the limits of sport, thats cheating. doing something not forbidden by the rules creatively is pushing the limits
