    Spent time as a young boy in the early 1960's with an elderly lady that lived in France under German occupation, and she said the sound of a Lancaster bomber flying was the sound of FREEDOM!!.Never forget!

    I grew up on an RCAF station where my father was stationed and one absolutely NEVER forgets the sweet sound of a Merlin engine. Loved the Lancs and the Mustangs and those engines were the sound of music. God bless those that flew them.

    Hello from Hamilton Ontario... your lovely bird sounds just like our Vera. Nothing like hearing those four Merlins thundering overhead. One of the most terrifying things I've ever imagined was when someone said "imagine a thousand of those flying over all at once, dropping bombs."

      Make your way north to Hamilton, Ontario and see Vera fly... she's the highlight of the airshow every father's day weekend, has a B-25 Mitchell off her wing, and always comes with an escort of Spitfires, Hurricanes and Mustangs along with any other WW2 birds who can find the time.

    bloody luverly one of those planes once a year takes off from Bournemouth airport. hangs low almost tree top height as it flys over the top of my house before he fly's higher and joins in at the air show over Bournemouth beach. i tell you what when they fly low over your house you can really feel the sound of the engines on your body. i don't know why that happens but i felt it more than one time.

    • @tim7052
      @tim7052 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes! Today they talk of sporting "heroes"!! IMHO not one sporting "hero" ever experienced what Bomber Command aircrew (and the ground attack Typhoon IB pilots) did during WWII: of that the GREATEST generation of young men and women that ever lived!!

    • @cycleSCUBA
      @cycleSCUBA 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Those boys did what they did out of a combination of duty to their King and Country, and also a strong sense of camaraderie amongst the crews, a 'we're all in this together' attitude.
      How many nowadays would do what they did?
      I wonder.
