One thing you forgot about scrolling for songs is that you can swipe the track to either deck to load it. Just got my S11 tonight and found that trick already.
FYI... Now that I have my S11-SE...that intro doesn't do the load up justice. NOT his fault, just cameras suck at capturing colored LEDs. BTW... this is by far the best S11-SE video on TH-cam!
Your videos have been my tutorials for my S11 - I've watched them all at least 3x and still learn something new every time I rewatch it. Thank you for your help 👍
I've had my S11 since it's release and I STILL refer to this video as it's easy to forget how many features are available on it, for example I totally forgot about the combo pad feature!
My dream mixer! This is a very versatile mixer that fits many different types of djs. Some people may say it has features that most dis won't use, but I think as you start getting familiar with it, using most if not all it's features starts becoming second nature. Great review.
I think the most vital thing he spoke about was the 2 USB hubs not present on the s9. To me this was the main reason I bought the Rane 72.... sure you have all these fancy effects but honestly that don't make you a better DJ. The fact that I can always use HID with another DJ anywhere at anytime is the best thing about this mixer or any with hubs. I guess I was more practical and forward thinking than many DJs who still by the way using Serato tone - how outdated. Great in depth demo btw. You always know your equipment.
I'm blown away by what these (new to me) mixers like the DJM-S11 and DJM-S7 can do. I use a DDJ-XP2 to unlock Rekordbox but am looking to upgrade in the near future. Thanks for the video!
Good lord this video just answered all frustrations and groans I discovered first few times I played on this mixer live. Realising I was suddenly presented with an inability to do a bunch of mixes I can do on the CDC’s. Amazing video!! Fantastic. Thank you so much. Also discovered it seems work and feel far happier with Serato. .
I just ordered this mixer. I’m going to have to rewatch this video a lot to learn all the features on this mixer. Looks like for me this video is going to be a huge help towards learning how to use the mixer. Thanks for the great way you explained the features. I’m a novice and want to up my skills. I’m doing it for fun and not profit.😂
I just got the mixer tonight and boy I’m overwhelmed. I feel like I have been driving a Ford Pinto and now I have a Ferrari. On the weekend I’m gonna rewatch your video to learn this mixer 😂
This is my 3rd time watching... But I just ordered and I'm getting it in 2 days and this is the best video to familiarize myself with it before I actually get it. Thanks PYJ

Awesome video and thanks for the full walkthrough of the S11. Any way you can do a video showing us how to record dj sets with Ableton on separate tracks? I was able to do so, but the software and hardware effects didn't work like (echo ducking, smooth echo, repeater etc.) Keep up the great work!
Yo you were very Thorough in your video man, thanks..i plan on buying this to implement into my rane twelve dj system.. great mixer, YOU SOLD IT TO ME!!☝🏼

Congratulations for the video! I watched several videos about the operation of the S-11 and by far yours was the one that went deeper and presented the features. Not to mention your great didactics and the quality of the video! Nice Job!! I was curious about recording sets on separate channels (track 1 and 2, fader cuts, effects) you talk..... To me this is a Serato "flaw" in in comparison with Traktor (as far as i know traktor has this feature since the launch of the Z2 mixer). But I searched and didn't find any video of someone explaining how to do this recording process on Serato. On the Pioneer website it's mentioned that the DJM-S11 comes with a Serato DJ Pro Expansion Pack voucher and elsewhere I've seen commentary saying that the Serato P'nT DJ voucher is included to enable Pitch Play. Which expansions specifically does the voucher unlock? Obviously, it will have Serato DVS and Serato P'nT DJ but does it also come with Serato Flip and Serato FX? Perhaps the voucher is actually their Serato DJ Expansions pack that includes everything above plus Serato Play and Serato Video? Any info is greatly appreciated!
Does dual deck and deck move work with stems? Does it retain your stem settings when you move it? I'm wondering if it would be possible to make an acapella and instrumental mashup with stems, and then move it to one side so you can mix in the next song.
Hi Pri Yon Joni. Please, help me. Rekordbox have keyboard pad mode, serato have pitch play pad mode. But rekordbox have key shift pad mode, serato doesn't heve this function, or this is possible pad function on serato like key shift pad mode on rekordbox?
This is a great video thanks for putting it together. However, the one thing you don't cover is setting up the mixer with different turntables / controllers. I'm using Rane Twelve MKII with the S11. I have come from a Rev7 so am used to having "stretchy" waveforms where changing the tempo elongates the waveform so that I can line them up by eye rather than having to beat match by ear all the time. This is very useful for fast transitions where I only have 1-2 bars to get everthing beatmatched perfectly. This should be possible with the Rane Twelves attached via USB and set to "Serato USB" on the Rane 12 + Internal mode setting in Serato. However, when I have it setup like this Serato still thinks I am using DVS! Therefore, the wave forms are fixed and will not elongate or contract. If I set up my Rev 1 and plug in the Rane Twelves everything is fine but with the S11 I am having this problem! DVS appears to be automatically activated and I cannot turn it off under "expansions" in Serato because it is not shown in the list. I've contacted Rane and have everything setup correctly so this must be a S11 issue or a Serato issue. Given the number of people using Rane Twelves with the S11 it seem weird to have this as a bug so am I missing something?
The lack of stretching waveform with DVS is not a bug. It is what is capable between different executions of playback. I have a solution on the bottom of this response, but first let me explain why waveforms do not stretch in DVS. The reason HID/MIDI devices are capable of waveform stretching, and DVS does not is how each protocol prioritizes a function to determine it’s tempo. In HID or MIDI, the tempo is determined by the digital input of the pitch slider. It is not prioritized by the rotation of the platter. Therefore, no matter how you manipulate the platter, the software knows what the tempo is supposed to be, based on the position of the tempo slider. In DVS, the tempo AND the scratch input is determined by the rotation of the platter, based on the pitch of the timecode signal. Because of this, it is always correcting in real time. If you look at the tempo value when you’re in DVS, you can often see it jumping around (128.1, then 128.2, then 128.1 again). It also takes a moment to correct when you change the tempo drastically. The software takes a few seconds to determine the input when there is a change in rotational speed. If waveform stretching were to be applied to DVS, the stretching would constantly be resizing itself. And sometimes, the software can struggle deciding if you are scratching, or playing. This is why you sometimes get weird artifacts when you have keylock on, specifically Pitch n Time DJ. This is the sound you hear when you hear the key jumping in and out keylock when scratching with PItch n Time on. With the exception of the standard Serato time stretch algorithm (disabling Pitch n Time), every DJ software has this issue with DVS and keylock. You can hear this in rekordbox, Traktor, Virtual DJ, and Algoriddim DJ. Because of the constant and on-going correction of the tempo reading, and the lag that happens when large tempo changes happen, waveform stretching would result in a poor experience when using it with DVS. Therefore, the only time it makes sense to use is with any device that works in MIDI or HID, where the tempo value of the slider is the priority for the tempo. Basically any device that is set to INT in Serato (and REL or ABS which are DVS modes). There is one exception though. If you really want stretched waveforms in DVS, you can get this instantly by enabling Beat Sync (yes the sync button). By enabling sync, this will remap the rotation to match the song that is playing, no matter what the rotational speed is set to. Because of this, the waveform stretching can be matched between two tracks. If you wish to match your waveforms in DVS, simply use the sync button.
@@priyonjoni Thanks for this in depth information - it's the first time I've seen this explained and it makes sense. I always wondered why DVS had different characteristics to Midi. While I didn't know the limitations of DVS I was drawn to the Rane Twelves because I thought it would allow me to have both options. However, it seems that the midi option isn't availble with the S11. Maybe I didn't explain myself clearly but I don't have phonos plugged in so am not recieving a DVS signal. The Rane Twelves are plugged in via USB and set to USB Serato. In Serato software GUI the setting is INT. Yet still the waveforms will not stretch (the transients line up but not the waveforms). If I press SYNC with this setup, as you suggest, still the waveforms do not line up. Even though I am not using DVS and no timecode signal is being sent to the mixer, Serato seems to think it is activated and from what I can tell there is no way to turn off DVS in Serato or the S11. The S11 or Rane 12 is automatically unlocking DVS when I plug it in yet if I go into Serato and to Expansions DVS is not shown as an option to deactivate. However, on the Serato settings (cog) screen I can see the DVS calibration. So the bug is not that DVS doesn't allow waveform stretching but that you can't turn it off and use the Rane 12 as a straight Midi controller.
Your decks run on HID (via USB) therefore it runs INT. The reason DVS scopes show up is because you are in fact still using a DJM-S11 which unlocks the DVS automatically. Also note, the MK2 version of your deck has a DVS output. Some turntablist do not like the sound quality and behavior of HID.
Great video Pri! I love how you broke it down and explain the functions of this mixer in great detail. I'm wondering since Pioneer CDJ 3000 is out will another mixer as the DM900 NX2 will follow? I'm certain you will inform us when it happens.
Hi Mate. Great review. Quick question. In the effects banks. If i use another S11 in a venue, does the info I set up transfer to the new mixer? i.e. is the info stored in serato DJ and the s11 control tab on my laptop or in the mixer itself please? I wouldn't want to have to redo all the effects again on each new mixer I played on. Thanks!
You can save and recall your effects settings in one of the 4 effects banks. Easiest way to try this is using two computers with different effect settings.
@Pri yon Joni. I'm using the Ver103 firmware, and I don't have beat jumps in Serato Pro DJ when selecting and using "Auto Loop". My auto loop doesn't have the 2 rows separate like yours did. So I looked in the manual and when it explains "Auto Loop" function, it doesn't show or talk about "Beat Jumps" at all in the Serato Pro DJ section. The manual only talks about Beat Jumps for Rekordbox. So I'm really interested to know why your worked in the Demo? Odd huh? Great demo and review btw
For instance @Pri yon Joni, you have 2 rows in your Auto Loop demo where the parameter button changes the loop lengths, and the bottom looked like it controlled the Beat Jumps. But I do not have nor can find how to get the bottom row there, so I can't for the life of me figure out how to get Beat Jump with Serato Pro DJ. Any ideas anyone???
Hi! thx alot for your review videos, they are great! are u planning on making one about s11 with rekordbox? or are u gonna wait till they polish? cos i heard its not fully optimized for rekordbox. thx in advance and keep up the good work
Hey question maybe you can help me with. I have the S11 and love it but I'm having a problem with the setting for the mixer not saving when I power off & on. They do save on my older Mac but on the new one the mixer settings don't save. New one is a 2019 16" 8 core intel i9 Ventura 13.1. Could it be something in the Macsettings I need to change?
How do you adjust the Key up or down quickly with same BPM? Ex: I would like to sample a voice portion of a track via pad while adjusting the key up & down.
I know this is an older post, but question for you. Is it true that If I used this with a pair of CDJ-2000 the sync buttons on the players wouldn't work within Serato?
Hi, I can’t get my new S11 to show waveforms when using a usb with cdj 2000 Nexus, is there a setting I have to select or does it only work with CDJ 3000’s? Or do you have to prepare your music in Rekordbox or something?
Depends what you mean by compatible. - All CDJs can be used with any DJ mixer. - All CDJs can be used as DVS or standalone with the DJM-S11. - CDJ-800 is not capable of HID mode for INT mode in DJ software
It's not actually. It's based on how hot cues were when they first were invented for the CDJ-1000. Back then, hot cues could jump between different songs on a CD. That's how scratch bank works. It allows you to jump not only to different songs, but specific cue points of each of those songs.
@@priyonjoni gonna use it for rekordbox only since I don’t want to add another software - looks like there is still pretty good performance stuff for rekordbox…
So.... Technically, It's possible to fully mix a typical set (without DMC craziness) with ONLY the s11 and a laptop...right? If the pads can control each deck I see this as doable. Hmmm
Mix FX in VDJ does not behave the same way Smooth Echo does. Mix FX engages as you open the crossfader. Smooth Echo only engages when you cut the crossfader. Mix FX engages when the crossfader is moved. I assume it’s meant to be used by folks who use the crossfader to mix and doesn’t have a sharp cut setting. The intensity of the FX increases as you move the crossfader towards the other track. The DDJ-SB and DDJ-SB2’s Filter Fade is similar to when Mix FX is set to Filter. The SB was released in November of 2013 and VDJ8 came out in May of 2014. Smooth Echo is totally different. It is not triggered by opening the crossfader. It’s triggered by closing it. That means it engages once the crossfader is set to the off position on a given deck, and only echos a small duration of the bit. It’s meant to be use when the crossfader is set to a sharp curve. The echo does not engage when the crossfader is in the middle. Furthermore, the echo can be delayed with a controller so that you have to leave the crossfader open for a set beat duration, in order for it to engage when you close. This allows the user to use the cut with the crossfader as normal without echo, then leave the fader open for the specified beat duration prior to a cut to engage it. This way, the echo doesn’t automatically come on when you’re scratching. It simulated when a person triggers the echo with a foot pedal. Smooth Echo can also be set for other triggers, including Hot Cue, Gate Cue, Channel Faders, and Load button. And because Smooth Echo is a hardware based effect built into the S11, it can be used even when not using DJ software with the mixer. The BPM is locked to the Auto BPM reader of the mixer, and can be used when playing with real vinyl or with CDJs in standalone.
Is anyone having software issues on their s11?? I updated it to 1.02 and the FXs don’t work. Maybe it’s a bug in the firmware or maybe I’m missing something on the setup.
Sorry to hear about your issue, but let's see if it's something simple first. Have you done the following? 1. Select the FX you want to use (one of the blue buttons that say, Echo, Reverb, Flanger) 2. Set the Level/Depth knob (in the middle between the paddles) to 12 o'clock 3. Set the FX paddle to the on position on the channel you want to affect with the FX
@@priyonjoni I’ve done it all. And still nothing. The only way I can make it work is by resetting the mixer to factory setting and then the beat fx work but not the software fxs. But if I turn off the mixer, the fxs don’t work anymore.
Still watching the video, just wanted to say thanks, PYJ! Hope to see your guitar DI’d to that S11 mic input for some iconic PYJ routines in the future.
Thanks for the great review! very informative than most videos. super dope job! Can you listen to Cue of virtual decks 3 and 4? and 100% of the hardware fx and color fx can be used with vinyl? ( more than the 6 that are shown on the buttons on the left side?)

We’ll find out together when it is officially announced!
Nice...well done
nice overview, learned alot
SPOILER, go into serato DJ pro and enable "Beat jump controls".
Hi! thx alot for your review videos, they are great! are u planning on making one about s11 with rekordbox? or are u gonna wait till they polish? cos i heard its not fully optimized for rekordbox. thx in advance and keep up the good work
I covered rekordbox in this video
Hello Tell me you can help me use Pitch N'Time Dj Serato on the Pioneer Djm S11 SE mixer.
fantastic review ...thank you
Hey question maybe you can help me with.
Sorry to hear. Have you contacted Pioneer DJ support? Here is the link www.pioneerdj.com/en/support/contact/ They are really good at getting back.
Thank you
How do you adjust the Key up or down quickly with same BPM?
Ex: I would like to sample a voice portion of a track via pad while adjusting the key up & down.
In Serato, if you have Pitch n Time plugin enabled, click the key shifting buttons.
I know this is an older post, but question for you. Is it true that If I used this with a pair of CDJ-2000 the sync buttons on the players wouldn't work within Serato?
In HID mode, the sync function will work.
In DVS, the sync will only work if you click it on Serato’s GUI.
@@priyonjoni Perfect, that's what I was hoping for.
Great review ! Thanks!!
how do you change the color wheel where the bpm is to yellow
Hi, I can’t get my new S11 to show waveforms when using a usb with cdj 2000 Nexus, is there a setting I have to select or does it only work with CDJ 3000’s? Or do you have to prepare your music in Rekordbox or something?
Waveforms on the DJM-S11 will only show if you are using Serato or rekordbox.
Hi is the s11 mixer compatible with the cdjs 800? And help would be appreciated
Depends what you mean by compatible.
- All CDJs can be used with any DJ mixer.
- All CDJs can be used as DVS or standalone with the DJM-S11.
- CDJ-800 is not capable of HID mode for INT mode in DJ software
How do u get 2 or more software FX to work at the same time
Thank you this is dope 🔥
The scratch bank is similar to the sampler bank in rekordbox
It's not actually. It's based on how hot cues were when they first were invented for the CDJ-1000. Back then, hot cues could jump between different songs on a CD. That's how scratch bank works. It allows you to jump not only to different songs, but specific cue points of each of those songs.
@@priyonjoni gonna use it for rekordbox only since I don’t want to add another software - looks like there is still pretty good performance stuff for rekordbox…
Hey Pri Yon Joni, I have one question, is the top part of the faceplate made from metal on the SE?
Yes
Great video!
Can I use this mixer with two 1200 turntable..
Yes you can use this mixer with any DJ turntable
where you guys get the doller to buy this swag
Are you able to route FX to sampler?
how long has the s11 be in production?
November 2020
So.... Technically, It's possible to fully mix a typical set (without DMC craziness) with ONLY the s11 and a laptop...right? If the pads can control each deck I see this as doable. Hmmm
Yes. You can use the transport PAD mode to Cue, Play, Key Lock, Beat Sync, and beatmatch manual with the tempo controls.
Actually Virtual Dj have a similar Fx as that smooth echo called on a section call mix fx ...
I think since virtual Dj 8...
Thanks A LOT💯❗
Can you be playing a track on deck 1, also be playing a track on deck 2, and also use the scratch banks?
No. It swaps the audio
Just swap what ever deck u want to scratch on over to deck 3 or 4, then use that deck to scratch!
I need to spend more time with my mixer. Dis Tew MUCH 😭
i love this nu mixer djm s11
Dope. Thx u.
Is anyone having software issues on their s11?? I updated it to 1.02 and the FXs don’t work. Maybe it’s a bug in the firmware or maybe I’m missing something on the setup.
Sorry to hear about your issue, but let's see if it's something simple first. Have you done the following?
1. Select the FX you want to use (one of the blue buttons that say, Echo, Reverb, Flanger)
2. Set the Level/Depth knob (in the middle between the paddles) to 12 o'clock
@@Rtist1929 The unit should still be exchangeable. Return it to the store you got it from and exchange it for a new one.
Anyone that owns this can you please lmk how does the mic sound on this mixer!
Nice
Niceeee
Still watching the video, just wanted to say thanks, PYJ! Hope to see your guitar DI’d to that S11 mic input for some iconic PYJ routines in the future.

Wow
The echo freeze from traktor!
Did he get his chance to say the word: “A-LU-MEN-E-EM”? 🤣
80th ahah keep it up
Are you on messenger? I questions.

THIS IS A SUPER MIXER ($2000.00)
Thanks for the great review! very informative than most videos. super dope job! Can you listen to Cue of virtual decks 3 and 4? and 100% of the hardware fx and color fx can be used with vinyl? ( more than the 6 that are shown on the buttons on the left side?)
