Juneteenth 2021: (Un)Known Project Site Dedication and Public Art Unveiling

On June 19, hundreds of community members joined us for Juneteenth: Past, Present, Future and (Un)Known Project's site dedication and the unveiling of "On the Banks of Freedom" - a public art installation created as a gift to the City of Louisville. As Justice Now student Sage Snyder said in her poem that is featured on one of the "On the Banks of Freedom" benches, "Countless stories of enslaved people have not been told. Say their names and listen to what you hear. It is time for their legacies to appear.” That's what we are working together to do through (Un)Known Project.
The unveiling of the installation created by artists William M. Duffy and Dave Caudill is just the beginning for the (Un)Known Project! On Saturday, we were honored to announce that the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation is making a $300,000 investment in the project.
