Thanks dude! I was driving to work on my 30 minute commute this morning in a light drizzle. Flip the wipers on, they go half way up the windshield and I hear a loud crunch. That was a fun drive with windshield wipers stuck in the middle of my windshield in a drizzle with cars spraying up road spray, by the time I got to work I was almost Ace Venturaing it. Now I know how to take this all apart to see what the heck fell apart inside! Originally, I thought it was just maybe the transmission gears with the wiper system as it almost sounded like grinding. We'll see.
@@carquestions I didn't have to open up the gear box. I pulled the cowl off and one of the rods popped off its connector. That must have been the clunk sound I heard. I also found that the main line to the two sprayer nozzles was slit so I bet that thing sprayed a bunch of washer fluid on the rod and connector and lubed that baby up and it slipped right off! Bought some hose and barbs from a local auto supply store, repaired the slit hose then cleaned off and popped the rod back on where it's supposed to be and it's working again! I'M A FRIGGIN GENIUS!!... thanks to you :D Helped me get all the crap off so I could get at this stuff.
I'm replacing a motor for a 2016. Researching before I tear into it. I assume the setup for the newer Subaru is similar still. Amazed you got it working with all that rusty water in the motor. You'd assume Subaru had better waterproof requirements for that motor. Almost as bad as a Australian made Mercury Capri headlight motor. Well done video. Thanks for posting.

@@carquestionsI had the same exact problem and the wipers arms needed to be replaced. Now my w.wipers go nicely up and down but when I turn them off they go up to the middle of the windshield and stay there… what to do? 🥺
Nice video. I would have liked to have seen the reassembly, as this is often trickier than taking something apart, especially when there's plastic snap-in garbage involved.
My Subaru is having the problem with the Wiper only having one speed- very fast, and when you turn it off, it won’t go back down to the resting place. I was thinking it was the switch but you’re saying it’s definitely the motor?
Hi, Do you have an instructional video ( or know of one) for when if you forget to turn off the wipers when turning off the car and GOD FORBID you start the car with the wipers frozen stuck on the windshield and they try to move but don't, that the wipers then get 'out of sync' and the wiper on the driver side then overextends it's motion and gets pinned under the passenger wiper. How do you fix this when out on the road?
Generally the fix is to park the wipers and forcibly if possible move it back - as a quick fix - when home get a socket and tighten the lose one to fix it permanently
I have a 2008 Impreza and might be able to get a used whole assembly that's supposed to be in good working order but it's from a 2008 Impreza WRX which looks more sportier. Do you think it will fit my Suby???
What if they stay at the bottom, they might make a sound but won't move, if they do its 1/4 inch and back down to rest, it will squirt fluid out though
I have same problem with my wipes Subaru forester 12. One side(driver) working at one velocity, faster so another side worked same velocity but right now that nut hold arm is lazy, although l think that motor is bad because it worked without speed control any position, may be is coming from changed of windshield (broken) before. Somebody knows how much is new little motor?
One morning, with snow on my car, I accidentally hit the wiper switch. Only one blade is out of whack where it over extends. Could it be a motor issue or something else? I'm just at a loss as to why only one blade is acting crazy.
Coleen - the wiper arm attaches with a nut - it was just a little loose and allowed the wiper arm to get out of position - loosen the nut and reposition the arm then tighten back down
Yes, as of a few minutes ago I was clearing snow on my 2002 wrx and it started working then the driver side blade went a little over the wind shield. Now both of them don’t work but when I turn the wipers on the motors are making a fast clicking noise. I’m lead to believe that the wipers got caught off track, so I’ll be trying to fix that today
@Christopher Ridgway That’s a cess that gets paid. An amateur-cess cannot be compensated. They might still be in college or be competing in Olympics or other international federation.
I have replaced my 2003 forester wiper transmission but it appears the wiper is out of time. When the motor was disconnected I plugged it in and got the motor in home position but this was after it was disconnected from the transmission. I feel I need to figure out where the transmission lines up with the motor. There are no alingment marks on the motor housing or motor drive bolt. Just a mark on the transmission linkage that bolts to the motor. What does this alignment mark line up with on the motor or dive bolt? Thanks

The top of my drivers side blade is going off the side of the dam window screen 🤣🤦🏻♂
Can this tutorial fix this?? I have the same problem
Loosen that nut and rotate the wiper arm just a bit, then tighten it back up

Good tutorial and very good fix. Btw....which grease did you use?
I usually use an anti seize like coppercote - Cheers from Canada!
It's crazy to me how prevelant this is, also how much a dealership charges to fix, and how easy it is to fix.
Bad design pure and simple

Maybe a tiny amount of sealant Or dia electric grease to seal the plastic mating surfaces? I would just buy a new wiper motor. Thanks.
A good idea for sure - Cheers from Canada!

PRO-cess is how folks talk in parts of NY.
Did it work??????????
Yes indeed
friendly advice, mark the windshield blade edge or you'll never get the arms lined up right.
Good advice - Cheers!
So , how did it work after
Worked for another six months
How do u unhook washer fluid hose
they just push on and pull off in most cases
Ok it full of of water I see no testing of the park switch
Park switch will work if the armature turns - rusted commutator stops it
Interesting video.
