Hospice will come to your home, their goal is to keep you out of pain. They will also send someone to sit with you and give your dad some time off if needed. You said, you’re not in pain now, but that could change later on. If you decide to hook up with them, they will send a nurse over to sign you up and he or she will explain their duties and procedures. My father in-law loved having hospice, they are wonderful in helping your journey thru cancer, making sure you remain comfortable, you deserve it, Daniel. 🥰♥️👍
Yes took the word out of my mouth. You will feel much much better with them there...and you will never have to go to the hospital again! You can save your energy....love you joey
they also help the person and their family in the process of having a 'good death' .. planning ahead of time..(my dad used hospice in the week before he passed) . i had the feeling they went with what the person needed...ie didn't 'push' you to talk about what was gong to happen next, but where there if you wanted to

I am glad that you are feeling a little better. Hospice can be done at your home. They can be a intermediary between you and your Doctors....to keep you pain free...able to sleep....IV fluids as ordered. They can also help you with nutrition and Meals on Wheels for nutrition supplementation. You need to sleep and keep yourself as healthy as possible. You should NOT be suffering, and you are. It breaks my heart....because it is not right. Many blessings and prayers to you.

Hi Daniel, I'n sorry you are having these issues. Home Hospice is wonderful. and will help you so. much. Also, you have a social worker who works with you and they become advocates for your rights. and know what is out there for you, The Hospice nurse will be able to help with any equipment you might need and their whole being there is to make you comfortable. There is also a Hospice aide that can help with small items like making you a meal, light cleaning, personal care, what ever you need. I know you will feel so relieved when your dad gets there, Good luck with the story.. we can't wait to hear it.

He never wanted to talk about his cancer, so your videos and thoughts have helped me tremendously to understand things. I want to thank you for sharing us your journey, you are so brave to do that. Awww Daniel. Can they not prescribe a sleeping pill for you that would be safe for your condition? What about Xylimelts (comes in small fruitflavoured tabs) or plain for dry mouth in between liquids? I have super dry mouth. Can they give you IV rehydration at home etc? What about a feeding tube for nutrients? You need homecare as I know what it's like to be totally exhausted and dreading ANY visits anywhere. Please, please get hospice to come in for you. You should feel so much better! Home care should come in for you. I'm not sure if there is a cost to you (we are lucky in Ontario, Canada) but if you need help, we can all chip in again, you know we will assist. You deserve the BEST care! Happy about your story going up tomorrow. Please, get some help asap. Just have someone call for you to make the arrangements. How I wish I could do all that for you now. Hiya Daniel. If you have hospice at home,I'm imagining they will be a huge help. Here in Scotland,our healthcare is via NHS as you know and cancer care is excellent. If you can have IV electrolyte replacement, your leg cramps should stop. Talk to them and see what assistance you can have. I wish I could help you,but instead,I send love and light your way from the cats and me in Scotland.PS ask your GP or primary care doctor for some night sedation. Take care,beautiful soul xxxx
Glad hospice will be in, mostly so they can give you something that will make you sleep well, and when you do, you always feel better of course. I was a volunteer at Hospice. We love you Daniel
Hi 🙂 I've been unwell since July, and have also been dehydrated ever since. I get hydration IV powder. Strawberry is the best. It's the equivalent of three bottles of water. It's chock full of electrolytes. I just drink throughout the day... I recommend it highly.
Daniel small sips of ginger tea is great for nausea or some ginger pastilles are good to suck on. It's good to hear you are out of that awful pain now, I hope it can be kept at bay or to a minimum. You really do need care and support now and hospice at home, along with your Dad being there will make life much more comfortable for you. I totally get where you're coming from wishing to remain in your home and you can do this with Hospice. I hope your docs chat goes well and they can help get the ball rolling asap for you. Nancy.......could you try some ice chips. They really help with the nausea but it helps with the dry mouth and throat....Also, my oncologist prescribed Lorazepam for the nausea... The other stuff did not work for me...... I hope u can sleep tonight!!!!!! Praying for you!!!!!!!!!
You will not have to leave your home if you decide to have Hospice care. They are there to keep you comfortable and help with anything that you may need. They are awesome people and are there for your family as well. Please consider this soon. My prayers are with you as you go through this journey.

I can’t keep my heart still for this brave man, he has not been treated well and yes I can say this because six months ago I lost my beloved partner with inoperable liver cancer. Even through the pandemic he was treated with such love and respect at home and in the hospice at the very very end because he was also dehydrating all the time. They told me no matter what I gave him to eat or drink it was being taken by the cancer which had spread all over his body and he had metastatic ascites (fluid in the abdomen) the same as Daniel! His dad or a friend should be with him now this absolutely breaking my heart, if I could fly over from the UK I would so gladly look after him. It takes me straight back to Paul and he had me 24/7 and I had support available on the phone 24/7. I beg anyone who knows Daniel or who lives near go and help him now! I BEG YOU.
Do you have any video from your trip? I feel selfish to want to see you smiling. How I wish there was something I could do to ease your way; All I can do is continue to pray for your strength and comfort and for God's light to surround you.
A dear friend suffered with a stage 4 brain tumor, and in the later stages, she almost totally lived on milk shakes. Just milk and ice cream in a blender. As cachexia is a real problem, the number of calories are irrelevant. It kept her weight up, and kept fluids in. Ask your NP? You can get home delivered meals from Meals on Wheels also!!!! And since you’re not working, it’s free!!!! They are frozen meals that you pop in the microwave. You need to get a county case worker. They can get someone to grocery shop and cook for you if home delivered meals aren’t your thing. And I so wish sleep for you . . . insomnia is brutal. Such a beast… I’ve had it periodically for years. If you are laying down a lot during the day, change sides every two hours, at least. You will not get pressure sores with changing sides every 2 hours. 🤗 Your NP will confirm this.
I agree. And trying to get answers from the oncologist is difficult because the patient is on the outer edge of medical treatment. Nobody wants to hear, "There's nothing more we can do for you." Thanks for sharing Daniel. We are witnessing a triumph of the human spirit.

DC is quite capable of expressing what he “needs to hear.” Because you “reel back,” doesn’t mean everyone does. Just my opinion. I would suggest you ask for ambien to help you sleep. My insomniac friend swears by it. I nursed my mum and would advise that you ask hospice staff to arrange a hospital bed, small wheelchair, drip, commode, and anti anxiety and pain meds. Get a ripple mattress and something to cushion your heels. Collectively they should all help you to stay comfortable. So glad the fluids are being drained. Sending hugs and strength for the journey.
Hi from Scotland it is coming up to 02:45 and blowing a hoolie. I was just thinking of you a wee while ago. I am glad you finally got fully drained and bottles sorted. I empathise with dehydration, nausea and fatigue. I am having some success using advice I used to give patients when I was a nurse now I am patient. I try and do couple rehydration sachets a day as in smaller amount fluids but have electrolytes that I am lacking helps with my dehydration and cramp. Nausea I am doing either hot or chilled honey, lemon and ginger sometimes, add tea and chill add in ice cubes as last resort if nausea or fullness to bad flavoured ice cubes to suck or crush up. Hospice staff should be able to loan things like airflow mattress mine really makes difference as does hospital bed. Subcutaneous Fluids maybe an option at home I know we use in UK with good effect and can be taught how to do yourself. I know at present no pain but if an issue loads of options from patches, lolly pops, liqieds, tablets all way to syringe driver. The being in bed but not sleeping so frustrating I know as I used to get up cook or bake now I am stuck in bed currently my pain not controlled and can not even turn over but with my home remedies nausea OK and cramps not so bad so can't complain. I hope some of things I have used both with patients, relatives and now myself gives you maybe new ideas to suggest to your team or like honey, lemon, ginger even try all this is trial and error to find what works for you. Love your cat both mine in huff with me for not finding toys since I moved and forgetting to buy new ones not that I am their slave. Looking forward to story am sure will be a hit. Take care 🥰
Wow, so many practical suggestions. Yeah, the hospices in the UK are so amazing (I'm now in Italy where they are getting more recognised and created). My Mum spent her last few weeks in one where she had worked for years as a volunteer so it was a real blessing. She was treated like royalty..Wishing you all the v best, and sending a big hug. X
Ive just read how Daniel was in hospice eventually with his Dad for company. I think the message was sent 1st week of November ... ( possibly the week after this video )... My mother in law is a retired hospice nurse, with over 25 yrs icu experience prior to that. I was an office nurse 1997-2014 then I became disabled. I loved what I did very much. I couldn’t have coped with what she did in hospice care, I’m not emotionally strong enough. They are absolutely amazing at what they do for patients. Wishing you the very best Daniel!

Yes but they do charge, a friend had hospice it cost them 5000. Their total deductible. So check out that first

Seriously? Hospice charge? They are publically funded in New Zealand however the majority of their funding is made by annual fundraising.

I have dehydration problems from many illnesses, liver included. I didn’t know they existed but will definitely try them!

He never wanted to talk about his cancer, so your videos and thoughts have helped me tremendously to understand things. I want to thank you for sharing us your journey, you are so brave to do that. Awww Daniel. Can they not prescribe a sleeping pill for you that would be safe for your condition? What about Xylimelts (comes in small fruitflavoured tabs) or plain for dry mouth in between liquids? I have super dry mouth. Can they give you IV rehydration at home etc? What about a feeding tube for nutrients? You need homecare as I know what it's like to be totally exhausted and dreading ANY visits anywhere. Please, please get hospice to come in for you. You should feel so much better! Home care should come in for you. I'm not sure if there is a cost to you (we are lucky in Ontario, Canada) but if you need help, we can all chip in again, you know we will assist. You deserve the BEST care! Happy about your story going up tomorrow. Please, get some help asap. Just have someone call for you to make the arrangements. How I wish I could do all that for you now. Hiya Daniel. If you have hospice at home,I'm imagining they will be a huge help. Here in Scotland,our healthcare is via NHS as you know and cancer care is excellent. If you can have IV electrolyte replacement, your leg cramps should stop. Talk to them and see what assistance you can have. I wish I could help you,but instead,I send love and light your way from the cats and me in Scotland.PS ask your GP or primary care doctor for some night sedation.

Hi 🙂 I've been unwell since July, and have also been dehydrated ever since. I get hydration IV powder. Strawberry is the best. It's the equivalent of three bottles of water. It's chock full of electrolytes. I just drink throughout the day... I recommend it highly.
Daniel small sips of ginger tea is great for nausea or some ginger pastilles are good to suck on. It's good to hear you are out of that awful pain now, I hope it can be kept at bay or to a minimum. You really do need care and support now and hospice at home, along with your Dad being there will make life much more comfortable for you. I totally get where you're coming from wishing to remain in your home and you can do this with Hospice. I hope your docs chat goes well and they can help get the ball rolling asap for you. Nancy.......could you try some ice chips. They really help with the nausea but it helps with the dry mouth and throat....Also, my oncologist prescribed Lorazepam for the nausea... The other
stuff did not work for me...... I hope u can sleep tonight!!!!!! Praying for you!!!!!!!!!
I have oral (buccal dissolving) zofran for my nausea. It has gotten to where it helps less and less… will have to ask about lorazepam. Thank you!

You will not have to leave your home if you decide to have Hospice care. They are there to keep you comfortable and help with anything that you may need. They are awesome people and are there for your family as well. Please consider this soon. My prayers are with you as you go through this journey.

I can’t keep my heart still for this brave man, he has not been treated well and yes I can say this because six months ago I lost my beloved partner with inoperable liver cancer. Even through the pandemic he was treated with such love and respect at home and in the hospice at the very very end because he was also dehydrating all the time.
They told me no matter what I gave him to eat or drink it was being taken by the cancer which had spread all over his body and he had metastatic ascites (fluid in the abdomen) the same as Daniel!
His dad or a friend should be with him now this absolutely breaking my heart, if I could fly over from the UK I would so gladly look after him. It takes me straight back to Paul and he had me 24/7 and I had support available on the phone 24/7.
I beg anyone who knows Daniel or who lives near go and help him now!

A dear friend suffered with a stage 4 brain tumor, and in the later stages, she almost totally lived on milk shakes. Just milk and ice cream in a blender. As cachexia is a real problem, the number of calories are irrelevant. It kept her weight up, and kept fluids in. Ask your NP? You can get home delivered meals from Meals on Wheels also!!!! And since you’re not working, it’s free!!!! They are frozen meals that you pop in the microwave. You need to get a county case worker. They can get someone to grocery shop and cook for you if home delivered meals aren’t your thing. And I so wish sleep for you . . . insomnia is brutal. Such a beast… I’ve had it periodically for years.
If you are laying down a lot during the day, change sides every two hours, at least. You will not get pressure sores with changing sides every 2 hours. 🤗 Your NP will confirm this.
I agree. And trying to get answers from the oncologist is difficult because the patient is on the outer edge of medical treatment.
Nobody wants to hear, "There's nothing more we can do for you."

I would suggest you ask for ambien to help you sleep. My insomniac friend swears by it. I nursed my mum and would advise that you ask hospice staff to arrange a hospital bed, small wheelchair, drip, commode, and anti anxiety and pain meds. Get a ripple mattress and something to cushion your heels. Collectively they should all help you to stay comfortable. So glad the fluids are being drained. Sending hugs and strength for the journey.

I was just thinking of you a wee while ago.
I am glad you finally got fully drained and bottles sorted.
I empathise with dehydration, nausea and fatigue.
I am having some success using advice I used to give patients when I was a nurse now I am patient.
I try and do couple rehydration sachets a day as in smaller amount fluids but have electrolytes that I am lacking helps with my dehydration and cramp.
Nausea I am doing either hot or chilled honey, lemon and ginger sometimes, add tea and chill add in ice cubes as last resort if nausea or fullness to bad flavoured ice cubes to suck or crush up.
Hospice staff should be able to loan things like airflow mattress mine really makes difference as does hospital bed.
Subcutaneous Fluids maybe an option at home I know we use in UK with good effect and can be taught how to do yourself.
I know at present no pain but if an issue loads of options from patches, lolly pops, liqieds, tablets all way to syringe driver.
The being in bed but not sleeping so frustrating I know as I used to get up cook or bake now I am stuck in bed currently my pain not controlled and can not even turn over but with my home remedies nausea OK and cramps not so bad so can't complain.
I hope some of things I have used both with patients, relatives and now myself gives you maybe new ideas to suggest to your team or like honey, lemon, ginger even try all this is trial and error to find what works for you.
Love your cat both mine in huff with me for not finding toys since I moved and forgetting to buy new ones not that I am their slave.

Wow, so many practical suggestions. Yeah, the hospices in the UK are so amazing (I'm now in Italy where they are getting more recognised and created). My Mum spent her last few weeks in one where she had worked for years as a volunteer so it was a real blessing. She was treated like royalty..Wishing you all the v best, and sending a big hug. X

My mother in law is a retired hospice nurse, with over 25 yrs icu experience prior to that.
I was an office nurse 1997-2014 then I became disabled. I loved what I did very much. I couldn’t have coped with what she did in hospice care, I’m not emotionally strong enough.
They are absolutely amazing at what they do for patients. Wishing you the very best Daniel!
