- Mags felt off for months before her stage 4 non Hodgkin lymphoma diagnosis, including migraines, fatigue, a lingering cough and odd arm swelling. But she never thought her symptoms would be a sign of cancer until she was diagnosed with stage 4 primary mediastinal B-cell lymphoma (PMBL), a rare type of lymphoma.

A common thread with all these videos is that the people aren't too concerned about initial symptoms, cancer isn't even on their radar. Bro, cancer is always on my radar. I get a single weird sensation or symptom, I immediately think I'm dying of cancer.

I never understand doctors saying this. Children get cancer. Infants get cancer.
My son had leukemia at 19. AND it was the type of leukemia that normally affects older people: AML. Age doesn't matter.

I am going for a cat scan next week but in my heart, I know the answers. My first bout with cancer was in 2009 but with different symptoms. Right now, I'm not sure how I will proceed with future treatments. I am sending all positive thoughts to our universe for this young woman.

I have a golf friend who had stage 4 prostate cancer. Had surgery and 41 radiation treatments and 6 years later he’s doing fine.

Stage 4 isn't always (thankfully) fatal with the majority of cancers. There are obviously some that if you don't catch them, they will spread but treatment has come a long way since the 90s when most cancers ended up killing the majority of people
I too was diagnosed with Stage 4 Non Hodgkins Lymphoma after not feeling well for nearly 14 months. I too had a cough which would not go away and had lost a lot if weight. I went into remission but cancer returned after 18 months so I had intensive chemotherapy, followed by stem cell transplant. Horrible treatment I would not wish on anyone. Unfortunately after nearly 9 years I am now being treated for stage 1 breast cancer. It is true that some people do get secondary cancer after being treated for one. I am one of the unfortunate one! I am positive and live for today and this helps. I wish you all the best and good health.

@@nataliemcmillan2605 Thank you. Unfortunately 3 small operations still did not get rid of all cancerous tissues so I will be having a mastectomy. I have declined reconstruction at the moment as the op takes 10 hours, a week in hospital and then 3 months' recovery period. I can have it at a later date if I change my mind. They would take what they need from my tummy area so no foreign material. Anyway I decided who needs a boob at my age!

Same as my mom, stage 4 NHL. She also lost weight and regularly had a cough. Stem cell transplant was an option for my mom but she decided not to do it and continue with chemo. She has been doing chemo on and off since 2009.

My mom had extreme cancer surgery and reconstruction in New Brunswick. Total cost to my family was 0. Truly cutting edge stuff for a 71 year old. She’s 81 now and doing great and we are so grateful. Our healthcare system has its problems, but I can’t begin to express my appreciation for how it’s been there for my family.

I hope you're able to beat this thing. Best of luck to you, young lady. My sister-in-law also has Hodgkin lymphoma, which was stage-three when it was diagnosed. She recently had her last chemotherapy treatment, and things are looking up. There's just a few more tests to be done to see if she's in remission.

Malignant mesothelioma patient, here. I’ve been on immunotherapy for two months, and it is a totally unpredictable ride. The side effects didn’t even start until a month after my first infusion. First side effect was blurred vision in my left eye. It was like I was looking through Vaseline. Scared the hell out of me. It took three weeks of Prednisolone drops before it returned to normal. Second side effect was terrible arthritic-like pain in both of my knees. I had to take IV steroids, which took two weeks to eliminate the pain. Third and fourth side effects were tremendous fatigue and weakness. I could barely get out of bed in the morning.
Immunotherapy is different than chemo, in that it “amps up” the immune system. The flip side to the therapy is that it can cause all kinds of inflammation. It’s totally unpredictable as to what body parts will be affected and when. At this point, I almost wish I could have had chemo instead of immunotherapy, but that was not an option for my oncologist.
It makes me sick to hear this. I just had all the chemo and radiation my body could take and next they plan to try immunotherapy. Last ditch effort. Large cell neuroendocrine lung - no I never smoked - so sick of that question.
I do not think I can deal with any more treatment side effects. Then again - when I start suffocating again I might change my mind.

@@kathleenmcbride1471 Hang in there. The advantage of immunotherapy is that it doesn’t kill every cell in sight, like chemo. Biggest plus for me is zero nausea. No nausea drugs are given before, during, or after treatment. I consider that a huge bonus.
My eye is finally back to normal and my knees have improved, since I’ve increased my excercise routine. My oncologist told me before treatment that inflammation could be an issue, so maybe I should put on my man pants and deal with it.
At the time I was diagnosed with pleural mesothelioma, I had tremendous back pain and was taking 15mg morphine every 12 hrs. Now, I’m down to 7.5mg every 24 hrs. My oncologist told me that a reduction in pain is a good sign, and for that, I am forever greatful.
Many people say immunotherapy is worse than chemo, because it's so unpredictable.
@@kathleenmcbride1471 I just wanted to say everyone is different! My husband has been on for about 8 months and he has a rare disease where he will need immunotherapy his whole life. He feels great! He works full time and is happy he got this option! Hopefully you will react the same! Everyone is different which makes it so hard. Praying for you 🙏

Not to diminish everything Mags went through, she fought stage IV non Hodgkin lymphoma after all. But damn, here in the U.S. she probably would have died. I'm impressed how seamless all of her medical care was. Here? Each step requires prior authorization and unnecessary scans and procedures to get approved for each additional step which requires a lot of time for the patient and the doctor to fight to get approved. I'm glad to see Mags seemingly doing better. Even beating cancer(genetic). I know it can be really taxing on the body. I lost my mother, at 51, to triple negative breast cancer. It was incredibly aggressive and unfortunately with all the hurdles that the insurance put in front of my mom, it wasted a lot of precious time for her to receive prompt treatment. By the time she was approved for some imaging and treatment, the cancer had spread and advanced from stage II to stage III C. I really wish we had a healthcare system like Canada or Germany. I'm aware no system is perfect but clearly when it counts, their systems are far less complicated in dire situations. Not to mention it would save tax payers over a trillion dollars, annually! Stay safe and healthy folks, advocate for yourself and don't take no from the doctors or the insurance companies when you know something is off. Also, if a person is undergoing chemo and radiation treatment, fasting a day prior, during and a few days after will signifcantly reduce the side effects. In my moms case she lost almost no hair and her heart failure diagnosis went from stage IV to stage II.
The bad stuff about Canada Healthcare is that MRIs, Catscans, ultrasounds aren't booked for months unless it's an emergency. I have been due for an MRI on my knees for months now and haven't even been given a date yet. If your doctor is good, they will push but if not, you are SOL

I’m sorry they happened to your mom. I’m almost 2 years out from my BC dx. My treatments were fast and furious. From my mammogram my biopsy was about a week and a half. Once I got the call that it was positive, everything went so fast. Appt after appt. My care and treatment has been amazing!
Well, it actually not accurate. I’m afraid the systems outside of US are over all much worse. If it’s not an emergency you are bunched

I went to my pcp office for a lump in my neck. I saw a young, new nurse practitioner. She freaked out, said it was my thyroid, and sent me for an immediate emergency appointment with an endocrinologist. Scared the tar out of me!
Turned out to just be a cyst. Doc drained it right there - it was “black blood.” I think he said it was black because I had it for a couple of months; the blood was old. He showed me two large syringes full of the blood. It was kind of creepy looking at it. The endocrinologist was very light-hearted about it because it wasn’t serious, thankfully.
The nurse practitioner I saw really scared me, unnecessarily. I appreciate her urgency because it could have been bad. But I hope she has gotten a bit calmer as she gets more experience.
I'm sure she acted in good faith and concern for you. Better than being disregarded. 💓

@@Verybunnyful the vaccine only does things the virus does too. But the virus uses your cells to produce whole viruses and it's uncontrolled.
My fiance was sick for 6 weeks with Covid and basically couldn't do anything right after he was negative which then slowly improved. And he still has some issues with his heart 2 months later.

I didn't lose mine till 2 weeks after chemo. I haven't lost it all yet.
I’m also a stage 4NHL survivor. Oddly I never developed a cough. I had just had my second child and I was having night sweats but I just thought it was my hormones trying to regulate. Then I found a little bump just at the bottom of my neck right where my shoulder started. It felt like it was part of the muscle and I at first just thought it was like e tension knot. It wasn’t going away so I went to the Dr and they did an ultrasound and they came back saying it was just a lipoma which is just a fat deposit. (FYI, Dr should have done a biopsy but didn’t). Dr told me it was nothing to worry about. I often felt tired but I worked a high stress job, had a 4 yr old and had a baby. About a year later I was shaving my underarm and the razor hit a bump about the size of a pea. I went back to the Dr and he said it was a sebaceous cyst and hopefully my immune system would fight it but if it ended up getting red or infected he would just cut it and drain it. So again I left and continued living life. The bump under my arm wasn’t going away, it’s wasn’t red or sore but I just didn’t like it there. I talked with my husband and we agree to just ask if the Dr would just remove it now and not wait to see if my body would take care of it. I honestly not once ever thought about cancer. I was in the Dr office a few days later for a follow up on the incision in my armpit and the Dr came in, sat down, grab my hand and said I’m sorry the lump wasn’t a sebaceous cyst you have cancer. I honestly feel like I blacked out. I don’t even remember driving myself home. The next couple days were a whirlwind, PET scans, bone marrow pull and I was told I had stage 4 NHL and it was in every lymph node , my entire spleen. I began with intense chemo for almost a yr. I was told I was in remission but it immediately came back. I then prepared for a transplant. That was really hard and took me a yr to recover. Then about a yr later I was told it was back again😢 I then prepared for a second transplant. This one was even harder because my body had already been through so much. I was in the hospital over 100 days. My body immediately rejected my donor and caused me all kinds of issues. Once I was able to come home I recouped again for about a year and then my body started doing crazy things. It was my body rejecting the donor again which is called Graft vs Host disease. All my skin blistered like 3rd degree burns, it attacked my esophagus, my stomach/GI , my colon, my eyes, my mouth (all my teeth fell out), then is started causing all my connective tissue(skin, tendons, muscle) to all turn hard as wood. I literally couldn’t move anything but my head. Not even a toe. I laid like a plank of wood in bed with round the clock nursing for 5yrs in diapers. During the first yr doctors said I had maybe 3yrs. Once it got to my heart, lungs, kidney or liver it was over. It was incredibly hard to keep fighting. I was in so much pain. I was nothing but a skeleton of bones. I’m 5’10” and I was 70pounds. My friend made me homemade bone broth. I couldn’t chew or swallow food. All I did was drank a lot of bone broth and puréed food. It was so hard on my children. One miraculous day I felt like I wiggled my toe. I’m trying to shorten this the best I can, lots of things happened between all this with infection, hospitalizations, surgeries etc. but I’m just touching on main points. After feeling like I could wiggle a toe very slowly I began to get itsy bitsy movements over the course of 5 yrs. I’m am now able to get out of bed and am in physical therapy trying to gain strength back and constantly work on loosening all my tightened connective tissue(they put me on a Pilates reformer so I can safely lay on my back while the put my legs and arms in straps to help strengthen and loosing the tissue. I still can’t stand straight up or put my legs straight. I can only lift my arms just under the height of my shoulders. But I’m continuing to work hard. I’m so dedicated to be able to walk again. I’ve amazed Dr’s. they can’t believe I’m here and what I’m doing. I prayed so much, I had many churches praying for me. My newest health struggle is now skin cancer. Because I take so many immune suppressants so my immune system doesn’t attack me I’m now developing lots of skin cancer. The biggest issue is because my skin is so tight they can’t just cut it out and stitch me up. My skin is sucked tight to my bones so you can close the skin. I have a large squamous cell on my leg right now and I may need amputation😢.
They are afraid to leave a 4” diameter hole in my leg all the way to the bone. With me being on immune suppression Is so risky for infection which could take my life. They think it would take at least 2 or more yrs for the hole to fill in so it’s leaving me at high risk. My heart goes out to anyone that has had to struggle life with cancer. It’s a very hard thing, God Bless❤

Im worried this is what i have. Ive had immunoglobulin anaemia all my life, diagnosed with MS at 24 (had it years before the diagnosis looking back - accelerated by the Gardasil hpv vaccine when i was 15). Not anti vax, but being immuno compromised i shouldn’t have had a live vaccine! Years later im now on kesimpta for the MS… lymph nodes are swollen… my treatment depletes the b cells so im worried.
Here I sit 5 and 1/2 hours later waiting to eat my dinner but I cannot eat until the video starts but now it's 2:00 a.m. so I need to go to bed and I just wanted to know was there actually a video about somebody having cancer? Never in my life have I had to sit through so many hours of commercials
IV contrast was an interesting sensation for me, not at all uncomfortable. Goes to show everyone's different.

I was so confused as to how quickly your treatment went and how you went seamlessly from one doctor to the other and then I realized you are not in the US.
Can I ask where your swelling was in your arm? I have a egg shape lump come up on the inner side of elbow just above the crease and is about the size of an egg, no pain but gets really warm and aches some days on the inside. And a heap of other things like numbness on my left side, chest and abdomen pain and now blood pressure spiking randomly and get a weird like panic attack feeling as it's happening. Keep getting told I just need to relax from doctors. Actually feel like I'm going insane.

Try to avoid so many carbohydrates as they turn into sugar (glucose) in your system providing the cancer with energy. It has been studied that when consuming a ketogenic diet alongside chemotherapy, you will experience less to no nausea as well as benefits that help the cancer.
Have you ever had cancer and actually tried this advice? No. Why give this advice?
And third, are you an Oncologist? People are trying to help but giving medical advice like that.. leave it to the Dr’s 🙂

09:01 Avoiding processed foods as much as possible and sugar (it is literally in almost everything - just read the labels) and you’ll do your body already a great favour! Nutrition is a huge factor … just consider what your grandparents ate and you’ll start to understand how the industry sells society things for food which contain almost everything you can think of except nutritions and even contain quite harmful stuff damaging your body in the long run. That commercial „food“ only looks colourful and may impress your taste buds. If you care about your body look into educating yourself about nutrition and you’ll win the race.
Just stfu sugar does not cause cancer and grandparents/great grandparents use to get cancer too. Don’t be so dense
I went through this too - a goddamn nodule on my right lung. And it was a rare cancer, and I lost my RLL to it.
