    I just bought a house that has a porch roof and gutter system like this, not sure when the heck the last time they were cleaned was! Digging out pine needles, tons of stinky dirt, there are small trees growing in here. Trying to figure out how to install some sort of screen over it. My channels of the roof are much deeper than these Ideas appreciated :)

      Very good observation!
      I have not seen gutters like this very often.
      The ones they sell most these days are, of course, extremely flimsy . I probably have to go to a commercial grade to get his type of gutter for my new metal carport.
      The last aluminum gutters I bought had only a straight flimsy back wall with no curvature at all and they were primarily supported by the hanger in the front and screw penetration in the rear. They did not hold up well. The install was pretty simple but I will not be going that route again.

    Our issue is that the addition roof has less pitch than the gutters were designed for. So when, for whatever reason, the downspout clogs, the gutter fills up and rather than pouring to the outside, leaks to the lower inside leaking into the home. Not sure what to do about the issue

    • @ianrobinson9565
      @ianrobinson9565 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Dave, if the problem is roof pitch alone and water is flowing back up the underside of the roof sheet maybe with the help of wind, bend the corrugation or if you are using trim deck, bend it down slightly to give a drip point However if it is the guttering and the guttering shown in the video is not slotted, so water will flow over the back of the gutter. The cladding needs to be above the eaves line. With a zincalume (metal) sheeted shed sheets have to almost meet the roof sheeting. The other alternative is to install guttering that is slotted, so water can drain out before it pours into the building. Also the slope of the guttering needs to increase as the length of guttering increases.

    • @davebean2886
      @davebean2886 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@ianrobinson9565 the problem is the resulting sideways tilt of the gutter to the house. We minimized the exposure by adding another downspout and making them larger.

  • @jasonnielsen939
    @jasonnielsen939 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    What type of guttering is this and where is it sold? The flap on the inside edge which you screw your tek screws into seems to be considerably wider than standard guttering sold at Bunnings in QLD.

    I have a 6-8 inch over hang, is there anything that will work with that?

    • @williamsmardo1240
      @williamsmardo1240 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I haven't done this yet , but I think it will work.
      I have a standard rv carport and on one end I'm going to put k style rain gutters from home depot , they cost about $8.00 dollars ea. But I'm going to reverse them , so the straight edge is out and the folded side is in up under the metal roof. I'm going to drill through the roof into the gutter, then use some of the straps similar to the ones on this video attaching it to the outside of the gutter then to the roof.
      Its similar to what he's done here. You can go to home depot , or online and figure out what I'm talking about.
      Hopefully it will work.
      If not , I'll have to trim off the overhang of the roof close enough to a support beam , that I can fasten the gutters to.

    • @PaulTomlinson

      @@williamsmardo1240 I'm just wondering how to get a slope if drilling through the roof. I have a carport that was entirely enclosed with garage doors on both sides by the previous owner. The problem is that I am getting rain in one side of my carport turned shed and I think gutters on that one side will take care of it. Just wondering how I do the slope if drilling through the roof? Just looking for recommendations right now.

      @@PaulTomlinson Did you work it out? I have the same question. If you screw gutter into roof it will probably be to level for water to run down

  • @triumfdula8830

    Hi, what are the rain gutters important exactly, why not just let the rain fall from the roof ?

    • @ginakerry2588
      @ginakerry2588 ปีที่แล้ว

      In my case I have half-walls from the top. So I am getting a lot of water into my carport as well as burrowing out the ground around the slab.
      I'm worried eventually water might start seeping underneath in large quantities. I don't know what that would do to the stability of the slab. But probably wouldn't be a benefit.
      It also just looks sort of Meh to have this ditch digging itself around the perimeter .
      Not sure I want to encourage grass to grow up to the edge of the concrete, because I'm sure it will want to keep growing right up inside. Especially with the runners we have here.
      Maybe I can drop a few inches of gravel around the perimeter to slow the water down and stabilize the soil??? 🤔

      In my garage, the rain falls from the roof and then pours back towards the garage and a ton of water leaks in. Needs gutters so i can have a downspout bring the water away. Additionally, they're great if you plan to have water barrels

    One word of caution, is it is not recommended to attach aluminum gutters directly to steel roofs or siding. This combination of dissimilar metals out in the weather will causes greatly accelerated corrosion of the aluminum parts where they contact the steel.
