WOW! THIS VIDEO was just what I needed. So I went to Amazon, which is my favorite place to shop for just about EVERYTHING, and they have this door handle assembly COMPLETE for only $8.35 + tax here in CALIFORNIcation with FREE 1 Day Shipping, since I'm a long-time Prime Member. You truly saved my butt! THANK YOU SOOOOO MUCH!
thank you so much man. my toilet break from door repair made me check the utube . we have same problem but i never expected or even checked the hinges and handle. thank you again man, you saved me from lots of diarrhea mouth lol.
Good point! I often find myself sitting thru an introduction to Bart the Dog and his antics while trying to view a video on repairing something. Thanks for editing Bart the Dog out of the proceedings .👍
Awese tips. I'd heard of shortening the rod but never about the handle eventually breaking anyway . I was thinking the rod had just stretched. But this gets to the real root of the problem for a longer term fix. Many thanks !
Thank you for this video. I watched it yesterday and ordered the part using your link. Right now I just got done replacing it and it works like new. It took me about 20 minutes to completely finish. Partly because I'm missing most of the clips on the door panel. LOL...Thanks again.
THANKS for this! I was JUST ABOUT to deal with removing door latch (bought junk yard latch and new inside handle) when I found this. Replaced inside handle, works great now!
Thank you my friend i have a same problem. I m one of those guys who vended the rot in order to fix the problem.but you were totally right i changed handle & problem fixed thanks again 👍
Great video, I read the comments and just lubricated door striker and latch copiously with knocker loose, I still have to strike the unlock button sharply, but it does work on the 1% of the time when I forget and lock the door with me inside, Thanks for the video
Hope you still reply, my rear driver side doors lock rod, the rod connecting to the lock switch and actuator, is bent to hell twisted mangled. Is there anyway I can get it fixed or even replace it? How do I unhook it from the actual lock? Edit, I have a 99 suburban but my doors are almost identical to yours
Did exactly this and my door still won’t open the plastic piece that goes around the handle of the door handle is in the way might have to shorten the rod
That's been mentioned a few times, I just assumed most people watching would of known how to remove a door card, next time I'll include the step. Thanks for watching.
Mine broke just like that but now the locks dont work and my door is stuck shut?? Anyone know how I can get my door open now?? I have been climbing in the passenger side. Somehow the locks no longer work, key won't unlock it and the knob lock just moves freely
You are absolutely correct, they are made cheaply and get bent. Eventually they do break. Look in the description of this video and you can find a link on where to buy these cheaply. I believe the last time I checked they were $12.
Graham Morgan I DON'T KNOW WHERE, I'VE REPLACED THE DRIVERS SIDE 6 TIMES FOR MY DAD'S 97 C1500 THE PASSENGER SIDE NOT SO LONG AGO HE BOUGHT THE TRUCK IN 2003. COULD LET ME KNOW NAME OF THE PLACE.
There's a tool that any auto parts store should have, it's not very expensive. Back when more cars had crank up windows, it was a very common thing for people to have. You can use a long straight screw driver, but you have to be careful about damage to the door panel with this method.
I had originally recorded it, but lost that part of the video during production. I uploaded it anyhow hoping what content I had might help some people who were able to figure out how to remove the panel.
I replaced my handle and the lock will lock but I can’t unlock it from the inside? Have to go to the outside and use the key. Anyone know a fix for this or why it is happening?
I was looking for a shortcut but you convinced me to order a new inside handle and replace. Very clear thank you.

My handle swap only took ten minutes with your refresher. Thanks!
My rivet was missing, if the new handle locks in hard. Like you really have to smack it to click in, I'd say you don't need the screw.

Great Video. Thanks for posting.
Nice and simple explanation. Thanks.👍
That trim piece doesn't just pull off, to prevent breaking the tabs that hold it push it forward and then pull off.
You can every door part ever for all 88-98 c/k series from LMC Truck.
Great video. Thanks for sharing!
How do you remove the window handle ???
My issue on my 1999 Yukon Denali is my drivers door won’t open from either side.
Did exactly this and my door still won’t open the plastic piece that goes around the handle of the door handle is in the way might have to shorten the rod
What year and make is your truck and where did you get the part?
96, I got mine from the link in the description, Amazon.
My replacement part isn't here yet but I'm thinking I will just replace the rivet with a Pop rivet. Looks like a 3/16" would fit nicely.
how about if the door doesn't even open from the outside ?
That's my problem today. 1995 GMC Sierra door will not open from inside or outside
Me too@@michiganmagneto
What if your outside handle is broken the inside is broken and it doesnt release when i pull the rod from the inside?
This helped me fix my handle wo quick I appreciate it
what if it wont open from the outside either?
Okay...
What if the door won't open from either direction?
What if the rods are off
I have a 2006 Kia spectra my door won't open from the inside
After replacing the handle on the right door. It opens and closes right until i lock and unlock it then it refuses to open. Any ideas?
Jessica G Aguilar did u try to spray PB Blaster or WD40 inside door striker and latch?
Don't use a bolt and nut to resecure the handle assembly. Replace it with a properly sized pop-rivet, just like it was from the factory.
Crap, too late!
@@1D10CRACY You can always fix that, the next time you open up the door panel.
What is the part called does anyone know?
Pretty sure its just called "Inside Door Handle". Here is a link to one on Amazon. amzn.to/2zWlUxN
Thank you!!!
ooooo yeaaaa just changed mine out its pretty easy and cheap fix
Chevy never ceases to disappoint in building crap.
So watchers know, video leaves out removal of panel and difficult removal of window crank clip.
That's been mentioned a few times, I just assumed most people watching would of known how to remove a door card, next time I'll include the step. Thanks for watching.

East Land roll window down and get a sturdy but benadable rod and fish the lock rod had to do it with mine twice

Noeh Medina I just bought 2 for 20 bucks yesterday on Amazon
Doesn’t even show you how to remove the window crank. That’s why I’m here.
Just like any other modern window crank. There is a c clip behind the crank handle that you remove then the crank will pull off.
Thanks for the help friend.
