This is classic Archer I miss from the newer seasons. I seriously don’t like having the stories being in Sterling’s head where the characters are mere constructions.
I liked the overall concept but the thing is, they lost something in the coma seasons. The jokes, the writing were just not the same. Can't remember any single thing that made me laugh. I don't mind the chnge of narrative, like seasons 5 and 7, but it's like the coma ones were written by a completely different team of writers. The show lost its chemistry and felt like a work of fan fiction. Not to trash the coma seasons, though, they were nice, just not very... Archer.
How does calling Mallory's number redirect it to the elevator phone? Thats not Archer's number, so why would a voicemail of his play for a number that isnt even his that wasnt even called?
I initially thought he was the reason why they were stuck until the ending where Lana accuses Mallory of tampering the elevator for their bonding thing proved me wrong. It's just the reaction made me think otherwise.
Earlier the episode he pretended that he tried to use the phone exclaiming it was broken so when said broken phone went off they realized Archer was lying before plus he was super against answrring the phone whitch also made him suspicious
It has to do with the fact that he has a long history of elaborate voice mail hoaxes. And somehow he managed to redirect the phone call from Malory to the emergency elevator phone which also has a voice mail. The irony of course that said prank ended up biting him in the ass as well.
The phone number, 311, did not come out as an informational tool in the United States until 1996. Even then, it was only for Baltimore, Maryland. The first comprehensive 311 system came out in 1999 in Chicago. This show is anachronistic with technology, so the writers can easily explain the absence of the 311 system.
I though ray was stuck where he was on the floor with his head and shoulders pinned between the ceiling and the elevator doors yet at the end when the robot runs away you can’t see him anymore
Well I guess it was only a matter of time before one of his pranks backfired. I guess he was going to trap Ray in the elevator? But never counted on being in there with him! Oh, thought! Was it to get back at Ray for flaking on Lana asking him to babysit AJ the episode before? (Even though he himself flaked to go to Edie's wedding?)
Earlier on he was seen using the phone, but claimed it was broken and cut off. So the fact it works and he was against calling Malory means he lied. I think the idea was supposed to be that people get stuck in the elevator without him being there (probably just Ray or someone). He then changed Malory’s phone to forward calls to the lift, where the message plays. The prank backfired because he wasn’t supposed to be there.
I've watched this episode so many times but I still don't get this joke. Was all of this his fault? Did he expect Mallory to get stuck in the elevator? If so then why did he run to catch it at the beginning? I'm confused
I think Archer set this whole prank up for Malory as an elaborate voicemail prank (probably after a long night of binge drinking) and forgot about it, but as time goes on, he starts to remember what he did.
@@ghostthad9155 But if this was a prank for Malory, why would he redirect calls to Malory's phone to the elevator? I honestly haven't yet understood this scene, and I've seen the episode several times.
