      Everyone doesn't know this. This generation grew up in the social media age where older people did not. So you won't understand the addiction or need for acceptance these kids are obsessed with. Parents have to teach their kids how to value life.

    If you think about it, never in the history of the world did someone have to hear or see so many negative comments about themselves....you only knew so many people in your community face to face throughout your life....social media really is not good for your health and it can breed narcissism and being out of touch with reality. :(

      How do you know that?? I think the issue is the most insecure people are the ones who have these channels so when those kinds of people are bombarded with negative comments there are negative consequences. Presidents, teachers, actors, lots of people have been exposed to so much negativity from people and still are and they're fine.

    Good for her that she's found more balance in her life. I wonder if it's hard for influencers (or maybe even kids who want to be influencers) to talk in a way that doesn't seem like everything they say is a 'pitch.' It makes me wonder if they're somehow terrified of their humanity, which can't be concealed by filters.

    But at the 2:55 minute mark, that’s not Lee. That’s actually Ingrid Nilsen, another influencer who was on TH-cam for a decade and decided to stop doing it full-time as well. She’s actually the creator of The New Savant candles.

    I would not want to be a successful influencer if they told me today they would make me one and pay me well for it. Even as just a social media user it was bad for my mental health, I cannot imagine how damaging it would be for your brain and how you see the world to spend as much time on social media as you do as an influencer. I'm off all social media now and have been for a while and finally I have arrived in real life again. And I'm saying this knowing I spent relatively little time on social media compared to many other people. Having a huge following must be incredibly overwhelming, even though it sounds like a dream come true to many people. I would pick my life any day over that of an influencer, I have trouble understanding my students want to become influencers.

      @SL-lz9jr ปีที่แล้ว +23

      Good for you. I prefer the 9-5. As an influencer, you lose your right to privacy and anonymity, the lines blur between life and work, your hours are longer, you’re potentially working nights and weekends, “setting your own hours” isn’t realistic because to build a brand you do need to grind it out and most won’t succeed due to over saturated market. Until you succeed, no stable paycheck or health insurance. Yikes!

      Yes its a bit crazy. Some people get lucky n get famous doing literally the bare minimum. Like this girl Glamzilla would show a lipstick or two everyday after the pandemic n got famous off it made millions through product collaboration n sponsorships. Even now she creates content sparingly. This motivated her to lose weight she was near about 300 lbs depressed n unhealthy when it started. This is an exceptional story. There are thousands if not millions of women putting their bodies n faces online everyday looking to get the same kind of success and exposing more about their life n it can be difficult emotionally and very stressful

      I think some people become influencers and don’t set boundaries that allow them to have longevity in that industry. It has to be hard to share EVERYTHING. Michel Janse has a Vlog and she use to do it every day but she has a therapist who helped her to see she doesn’t have to Vlog as much and allow herself to have me time. She openly talks to her viewers about comments, how they make her feel she is just genuine and open about how she feels what she’s going through and so she now may do two days a week and it may be short and simple. We don’t care we just enjoy her content and genuineness. It’s about not allowing yourself letting others put to much on you and you putting yourself in check and keeping you healthy. Other’s who have opinions and love to criticize will do exactly that when it comes to comments, and it’s terrible the things they say but not everybody has a heart.

    I understand why she had to quit wish was the correct choice for her. However, the perks of being a full-time influencer, and that you are your own boss. If you know you’re making lots of money, the wisest thing was to get help. You get to choose how many brand deals you want to do. You get to choose how often to post. It seems to me that she became obsessive and it took a toll. She could’ve done many things to prevent this. Also for the comments, you can also filter out comments through Instagram settings. So you won’t ever see these comments.

    • @Vacasa21
      @Vacasa21 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    • @ASmith-jn7kf
      @ASmith-jn7kf ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You need to look at the definition for "hobby."

    • @anneahlert2997
      @anneahlert2997 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Any activity moves out of the definition of "hobby" and into the definition of "profession" when someone makes money at it.
      For me, Genealogy is my beloved hobby. I don't get paid for it, I do it in my spare time, and it costs me more than it brings in to the bank.
      One of my friends shares the same passion, but makes money at it. So for her, it is a profession-- albeit a part time one.
      I know writers who can only spend a dozen or so hours a week writing, but have ended up making money at it. So for them, their "hobby" gradually became a "profession"-- again, just a part time one. Only one of the writers I know has made enough to dive into it full time.
      Working part time at something for money does not equal "hobby."

    I'm SO over people trying to influence/sell me things online in subtle and organic ways as she stated. If it is a normal and obvious ad, I get it - businesses want/need to sell and promote their products and services (may still be annoying) but at least you clearly know the objective. I have been so off put by people I like/followed on social webs and then they start doing this to their audience and it just seems so deceitful, ungenuine and an exploitation of the audience they have built (even when they disclose it). So over it.

While there are so many POC influencers, who 1. Don’t get enough opportunities 2. Who don’t get platforms and brand deals and 3. Who are shunned for expressing tough times. . I also want to add that I’am not ignoring this women’s experience. As someone who also creates content, you have to set big boundaries. But my boundaries are seen as quitting and not a much needed break if that makes sense. Also she’s very smart for mentioning what she’s learned from content creation. She will now be afforded jobs that allow her to use her skills. While again an influencer of color, will still have to work 20x harder for the same job.

      Let's remove color from this. If you were the same race as her what would your excuse be then?? Sometimes it's not because you are a "person of color" which you don't say what color you are but black people are actually people of color everyone else is not. But let's just say you authentically are a "person of color", is your content unique, who are your competitors, what is the quality of your content? Do you a team of people working for you? Are you getting in contact with the right brands? Are you persistent? Are you professional? What is your personality or attitude like? Are you on the right platform? In business, we can sit there and whine about whether it's our race which we can't change and many others of our same race as more successful than us, or we can focus on being quality people who give quality work and change the things we can. In real life, in this time, it's not everybody else, sometimes it's those "people of color" are not people people want to work with and have no clue about how their field works and gets upset at the success of others who do because they happen to be white not even seeing all the rejections and hardships that people went through but they continued to be diligent. There are many social media wannabe influencers of all colors who have quit or stayed and they weren't interviewed either, so have your team or yourself pursue these opportunities and then once you get rejected then come back whining. But it's ridiculous to whine when you are not pursuing such things and therefore don't have the opportunity. Just because you are a "person of color" doesn't mean opportunities are just going to fall out of the sky into your lap, even if they did you would just ignore them anyway because you'd just convince yourself they would reject you because of your "color". So, like I said, it's not everyone else.

    That’s BS that someone can make $300,000/year. I was an advance practice nurse with a doctorate. Having to act to save a life with a moments notice. No where near that pay. No way should a you tuber make that. It is sickening. No wonder all the teens want to do that.

      Agreed! You should be paid more. YT & socmeds are not all glam and money pit, they have a dark side and negative effects too..

      The entertainment industry has always been an industry that pays based on interest and demand. A TH-camr/ influencer can attract an audience, and their audience drives their income. As she said, it is sales and marketing. Look at how much actors or even sports figures make. (and it has always been this way) This is all about popularity and the ability to draw in an audience. Although her platform did not save lives, obviously enough people valued her and her messages to follow her, which allowed her to be a success in this field. But as she also noted, it comes at a price, and she eventually decided to walk away from it. She lived, she learned, and she is happy. I am happy for her that she has experienced this journey and is better for it.

      The economy doesn’t prize those who contribute to other’s wellbeing. It never was meant to. It prizes those who can limit the resources being given to others and funnel it to themselves, like the middle men industries of insurance companies, investors, weapons, etc. $300,000 is pennies compared to what the really powerful make, who are happy with us fighting amongst ourselves and ignoring them. Also…if you worked a while ago and are retired, inflation has since raised salaries and cost of living. I’m a caregiver who makes $115,000 without an advanced degree. And I’m not rich by any means.
