One thing , we have done, our entire HS journey, has been fun Fridays! We focus a lot more on interest led topics, playing educational games , baking , educational tv shows/movies , etc . As the kids got older, we were all reading different books , of our own choice . We had a “ book club”, where we would sit & drink decaf coffee or tea & share with one another what we liked & disliked about our books . This worked great if we were all reading the same book as well, but I discovered, it’s still so much fun when we are reading different books! We also had days where we would each get an encyclopedia , pick something random to read about, & share with each other . I think I need to start our “ book club “ & encyclopedia days, back up again!! 😊 It’s the most rewarding thing in the world, to get to bond with your kids ! To break up the monotony, sometimes, one of the kids will do the teaching on a subject ! That is really fun ! 😀
Jesus, thank you so much for this woman and the wisdom you’ve developed in her. Continue to give her strength to share and encourage the homeschool world. In Jesus name amen 🙏
Thank you so much! Plan to watch again after the kids go to bed and take notes. I have been homeschooling for 10 years and am feeling overwhelmed with 5 officially school age. This is just what I need.
You are amazing !! Even though , I’m homeschooling older children, I gained valuable knowledge from your video. I had no u-tube, when I first started our HS journey . I was primarily dependent on God leading me daily ! I still depend on Him , however, these informative videos of yours, is a blessing & much needed encouragement ! My prayer is for God to help us get through Algebra 2, this year! We will spend the first part of the semester, reviewing Algebra 1. We took a big portion of the summer off . Normally, we do quite a bit of school during the summer. We REALLY needed the break this summer ! Thank you, from the bottom of my heart !!! God bless you, sweet sis in Christ ❤ I look forward to all your videos and I have been watching your older videos, as well . 😊🌸💗

Mrs. Hayes thank you for this very helpful video. I know you're looking for ideas, so would you be able to do a video on how to put together a unit study and can you kindly explain a bit more on how the autodidact sessions work? God bless you and your family.
Mrs. Hayes, would you do a video on how to plan a unit study? Also, how do you do the autodidact session? Do you do give a guide? Thank you for this very valuable information. God Bless you and your family.
I second this. I've watched quite a few from other people but I'm still just so lost on how exactly to implement it. I can gather all the things for it, no problem. I've already got a pretty good head start. But what to do each day and how precisely to get lessons planned out? NO CLUE and I feel ridiculous admitting it because it should be, imo, a no-brainer.
Amazing video as usual! Leaving a legacy for many to follow, all glory to God! I’ve been searching for the link to print your world studies lists booklet, mentioned above, where am I missing it?
Thank you! So sorry, but I haven't put that list up because it includes some copywritten material. I hope to create my own list some time soon that I will then make free to the public.
Hmmm, never thought of myself as an expert on that subject, although I take loads of notes, I don't really have a rhyme or reason concerning formatting.
Great question--in my plans somewhere is the idea of taking all these lists, combining them, and offering them as a part of the curriculum collection I am making, which will also be available for free :)
Do you have your students use separate notebooks for Notebooking? Say, one for science, one for history, ECT... Or do you just have them put all that they "notebook" into one book as they go?
Great video! When you say you plan 6 weeks for unit studies, 4 weeks autodidact, and 6 weeks academics, do you do them in that order, or vary them out throughout the year?
I have a question Sherry 🙋🏻♀️ For the four days of using the McGuffey readers that you demonstrate here; before copywork and dictation and such, do they re-read the lesson?
@@Dreblueskies maybe at the very beginning of reading, but not after getting going; mostly because I think it would become awfully boring (both for my child and for me).
I don't really go by age, but by ability and maturity. Some children read early, but they can't be trusted to read an entire book on their own unless they are really enthused. I wait until they have more ability to focus.
@@MomDelights wow! That's awesome. I would love and appreciate a video on what it's like to homeschool only two after so many years of homeschooling a large famly. Also, what are your plans for the future? Help homeschool grandkids? Maybe travel or write? I am learning so much from you about homeschooling and life. God bless! And thank you!!

Yes I would love a more detailed video on your autodidact.
That would be so fun to do!
Oh, this was exactly what I needed to hear today. Working at the child's pace. This is the key I have been missing. Thank you so much for sharing.
So glad this helped!
That “homeschool is not a circus…” quote made me giggle!! It’s so true though.
Best homeschool planning video I have seen yet!
Thank you Sherry 😊

Sure, I could combine both the unit study and the autodidact ideas--a number of people seem to be interested in these two areas.
Excellent, as always!

Wow, THANK YOU!!
You are very welcome!
What if you have older who still need help with school ? I have older who’s going through phonics again as remedial work
Sherry, would you be able to do a video on teaching proper note taking...the elements of how to note take from different sources.
Hmmm, never thought of myself as an expert on that subject, although I take loads of notes, I don't really have a rhyme or reason concerning formatting.
Can you dig deeper into kindergarten plans and etc.
Do you happen to have the lists you created for your World Studies as a printout on your website?🙂

We sort of jumble it all together, especially since so much of what we learn overlaps.
