This isn't the normal RX 580, it's the cut down China only one which has decent performance differences (Believe it's the 2048SP version, which is similar in performance to an rx 570 or worse). The 580 is pretty old now but can still play a lot of modern games, definitely not a good value though.
@@username8644 My Rx580 is grand and was pretty affordable, at the time I bought it I wanted a 3060 but it wasn't going to happen. It was a great card given the budget and GPU drought back then. I still use it now and plan to keep it until it really struggles, but I've never encountered issues with my card like are shown in this video.
The 2048SP is very impressive, despite being almost identical in performance to a real RX 570 it can usually be overclocked to almost the same speed as a real 580.
@@username8644 To say that "the regular RX 580 wasn't a good card when it was new" shows that you have absolutely no idea what you're talking about. It was an EXCELLENT card when it was new, and the performance relative to the GTX 10 series has actually aged better. An RX 580 can still play even most new games today, especially the 8GB version. It will also do a great job of playing pretty much any game other than the most recent and most demanding ones released in the last two years. For example, it can run Cyberpunk 2077 just fine, with properly optimized settings, and that's still a relatively demanding game even by today's standards.

Antech was the first case I bought for my first PC build back in 2005. I was so proud of that first build (after I realized you needed thermal paste) and I used that PC for quite a few years as a cheap, basic media center.
Who needs PWM fans and carefully optimized fan curves when you can just install a low-rpm fan for quiet operation and a "jet engine" fan for proper cooling that kicks on during intense workloads into one video card? 🤓😂👍
Uh-oh googles terrible search strikes again - yes top result for rx580 drivers lists "Previous drivers" for some reason, but 24.3.1 came out in March - 24.7.1 was released in July but for some reason it's hidden on AMDs website, So yes it still gets updates but theyve split Polaris+Vega drivers away for bugfixes rather than new features

Two seconds into this video, its clear this is a commentary of the state of Amazon sponsored ads in search results. They should make two PCs. First using the first result even if its an ad, and one using the first result thats not an ad

Hey guys, i think there is something worth mentioning. That GPU is an RX 580 2048SP (at least the one showed in amazon). This means that it has 256 less stream processors than a normal 580, making it almost an RX 570 with like a 40mhz higher boost clock. Either way it's still a chinese p.o.s (and buying a used one would make more sense), but that could explain worse performance than what you expected.
15:05 yeah but that's RX580 2048SP. A cut down (or a mobile version i forgot) version of RX580. Or what we call here ewaste since most of them will die in 6-12 months
RX580 2048SP hey man this gpu is pretty darn good mate, got one for my sister and it can play every game (except starfield) at 1080p high to medium, maybe some newer games at medium to low

I personally wouldn't call that an RX 580 (regardless of its name). Much like how nVidia has made several cards under the same name but have wildly different performance characteristics or even a different die all together. The RX 580 in this video is the RX 580 2048SP which is the cut down version and performs more akin to an RX 570...
I fucking hate amazon's bullcrap when searching for something specific. They dont directly list what you are looking for, you have to scroll around their picks until you see it.
Do you know how many 580 and 570 have left mining farms in China when eth-hash has stopped being profitable? They washed them and sold them in builds all around the world. And it seems many have ended on Amazon, profiting from the ads system. 580 and 570 were beasts for mining, back then (2017-2022). Super power efficient, super cheap, much better/profitable than anything Nvidia had. Good old days.
I love the Rx580, I got one 5 ueats ago for about 100 euro, for the games I play, elden ring, BG3 and monster Hunter world, it's handled everything like a champ. Although I can feel it starting to age it was an absolute beast especially with it's 8gb of VRam, that's what allowed it to keep chugging along all these years with modern games I recon.

OH YEAH I have a Redragon keyboard too which I've had for like 4-5 years now and it's still going strong. It's insanely loud but I love the thing. Had a Redragon mouse too but it quit recently
i must say this about red dragon, i got present keyboard to my monitor, and damn it's a high quality one... hot-swappable, good box reds (sound great lubed, no wobble), no construction flex, easily disassemable, no wire stabilizers for space etc... only thing is that it's 75% but really, it's better than my $120 custom one on quality
I've had the Reddragon impact MMO mice in various iterations for about a decade and I'm a big fan of their utility and feel, even if they're a little large.
I have the same case used here, I absolutely love it! The airflow is insane, i had no issues running an 11900KF and RTX 3080 which both are known to run hot! Having space for 360 rads up top and in front is also great.
I'm finding now that it's easier the horrible search function is making it close to unusable to find what you type in. Also now I'm often finding that in store it is around the same price and sometimes cheaper to buy than to get things on Amazon these days. They won't sell really bad products as they need repeat custom.
I've been getting ram and drives at Best Buy for the same price as Amazon. Have to go across town, but I don't have to wait a day or two to get what I need. Amazon is still a great way to buy stuff, in my opinion, but price checking local places for a lot of things is always a good idea
If you're near a MicroCenter, you can make out like a bandit on a system with little worry you will end up with unreliable crap! Now, to the slight defense for Red Dragon on my end. i got a keyboard from them about 6 to 7 years ago. Its Named "HARPE" and the model is "K503". This keyboard has been through the ringer and back (falling on hard ground from high many times, etc), but somehow its still in a good condition. It literally only has fading on the keys due to constant use. The mouse lasted 4 years and the Headphones 3. It came as a pack, but i do agree that one should go for more prominent brands still.
I don't find that monitor sketchy at all honestly, lots of smaller monitor brands will have a monitor available for a limited time because they bought up some hardware at a discount. When they run out of that stock they can usually use a similar part that they can order but not at the same price so the model number changes slightly and the price (usually) goes up. I have a monitor made by "Viotek" and when I bought it, it was a crazy good deal. About a week after receiving the monitor, I could no longer find it on their site but something with a similar model name seemingly replaced it. About the same time LG changed up how they sell panels to 3rd parties so whatever they then had limited panels but probably had tons of other parts that they didn't want to go to waste, so replacing that panel with something else with similar specs was all they could do, other than eat the cost.
I feel like it should've been using Amazon's "overall pick". I almost never go with the sponsored item and will most often go with what Amazon views as the best as sponsored is just an ad.
Eeeeasy on RedDragon! I have a mechanical half keyboard that is actually my favorite to game on. I just get tired of using virtual keyboard to search things on the internet lol. Moving the spacebar over to where your thumb naturally rests as just a 2" key (more like a pad) feels so good once you get used to it.
So did I when I searched from electronics. When I searched from the main page the same one was the second result, with a 4060 being the first one. I also got a sponsored result for a refurbished server that costs 14k, because that obviously makes perfect sense.
Cheaper mice and keyboards, mainly mice, are underrated. I've been using this 20$ Inland GM76 mouse from the Micro Center for over 4 years now and it's still going strong.

@@m1stertim Fakespot doesn't help either if half of the reviews are genuine reviews that overhype something or people trying to make it look bad for X reason (like it often is the case if you go for "cheaper" end phones, especially if they're samsung - so many people that just expect a lower A model to perform the exact same as an S model) Hell, if it's phones specifically I just check how many people actually wrote about failure points (if they provide actual details) and consider them for the price it costs - everything else is just wasted time one way or the other - reviews simply are abused easily, no need to look further than people complaining about subscription traps in the reviews for serverhosts that don't want to admit that they've chosen the wrong option for what they wanted.
@@Unknown_Geniusnot familiar with fakespot, but do agree most reviews are pretty wasteful. I think Linus did do a good job going over that point with highlighting some of the 1 star reviews and showing how they were pointless complaints like the "no screw included in the package" complaints. Some like the "missing mounting hardware" etc could be legit and Linus just got lucky, but working retail i can also attest to people not looking carefully and throwing away important things. To me the takeaway is to always take the 1 and 5 star reviews with a grain of salt. A bit of a digress, but I hate when people want to return an item and proceed to complain we won't accept the return without packaging that they threw away first minute lol.
@@TheCommanderTaco fakespot is essentially trying to sort out fake reviews (and if im not mistaken mark products that are known for fake reviews, might be a different extra tool tho). But yes, most reviews are wasteful, but I also can't blame it as most people don't even review it and half of those that do just follow the link to review a product that often enough land in the inbox before the product even arrived (e.g. the silicon case we ordered for my girlfriends phone, ironically enough the package the next day didn't include that but tempered glass instead). But thats everywhere, I've also seen restaurant asking frequent customers to leave a review as some frequent customers leave negative ones just because a bun was in the oven for a tiny bit too long. I've personally only written 2 reviews in my life, one being for flixbus changing the ticket and removing reserved seats 30 minutes before the drive (didn't write a 2nd one for just changing reserved seats to different ones an hour before departing on the way back for the specific reason of it being pointless), the other one for a serverhost that doesn't exist nowadays anymore but that I've used for years to counter the "subscription trap and the pre-paid would be a lie" reviews from people who've chosen a contract instead of the pre-paid option. Fully understand the return thing tho, keeping packaging and especially the recipe is absolutely important (unless you don't care about refunds), loads of people just don't get it.
I got the white version of that case for a themed build (it was not sponsored, I had to dig for it), been using it since for my main gaming pc/secondary workstation and quite happy with it.
I've actually spent hours looking up GPUs about 2 years ago to pick up the XFX RX 580 for my Mac-connected eGPU. It's got 3 display ports, which is exactly what I needed to run 3 4k displays! Great little GPU for an eGPU enclosure!
to much hate for the 580. its better than last gen consoles and those STILL get new games. the 580 is only outdated because amd wont update its drivers often. also it looks like they did have an update in july
You should look closely at your water block mounting then. I run a dual tower air cooler, only one of the fans on now because of changing out the RAM and have not gotten around to remounting the other fan, top temp playing Destiny 2 is 75c. It's all too easy to have the water block not get good contact in some places if one corner gets tightened too much before the other three.

Its crazy how I started watching this channel with absolutely no idea about tech or building CPUs and now Im genuinely starting to understand how to build a CPU thanks to Linus. Still haven't built one myself and while I will inevitably get a few things wrong, at least I won't be walking around in the dark.
That gpu is 100% remanufactured. Ive had a nitro+ rx580 for years and it still runs games like a champ. I need to upgrade for sure but it's nothing like the one in the video.
That cooler is actually pretty darn good. If you need a cheap cooler for a 100W AMD CPU or lower, it's one of the best values. Especially if you have an x sku that doesn't come with a boxed cooler.
I think linus should do a review on that cooler brand, it's really good bang for the buck and the support is really nice. They send mounting hardware for new platforms for free with just an e-mail too. It also performs the same as more expensive brands with the same or less amount of noise.
I've actually bought that Redragon combo before, at my local Canada Computers - twice. It depends on what you're looking for. I bought one for one of the computers at my LGS (local gaming store - ask Plouffe what that means!), and the other for a very-occasionally-used computer in the living room. For my LGS I just wanted something competent that was better than what we were using, which would be the random keyboard and mouse that came with the computer, and this was a BIG upgrade. For the computer in the living room, we play games on it occasionally (like Civilzation VI or Titan Quest) but more often than not it's being used to look stuff up on a larger screen when more of us are gathered together, such as what a given feat in Dungeons & Dragons does. If you want something competent, usable, cheap and new (not everyone is comfortable buying used), you could do a lot worse than Redragon.
As in NOT the mobility brand: "Segway" And for designers who deal with fonts, It might be confused with "Segoe" since Segoe UI was the default windows font for a while

Interesting how the sponsored product system works. I specifically avoid them because buying ads on a marketplace usually means a product is a worse value, and quality
But the point of the video is to measure how much of an impact top choices might have on relatively average consumers who do not know a whole lot about this?
For the cooler from ID-Cooling, about June 2023 so 15 months ago, I replaced an excellent Arctic Freezer eSports Duo on my AMD Zen 3 5700x with an ID-Cooling Frostflow 240 AIO for £55. About $75. And temps dropped at full load 6 to 8 degrees. From about 88 to 90 down to 80 approx. I then replaced their supplied 120mm fans for some Noctua NF-P12 getting another 3 degrees with lower noise at full load. And finally replaced the decent Kryonaught thermal paste with genuine a Honeywell PTM7950 thermal pad that after a year of bedding in has also gained another few degrees. End result is an easy 10 to 15 degrees base temp drop. On the AF air cooler I could OC/PBO to about 4.4Ghz all core and my 3600 memory wouldn't OC stable at all no matter what voltage tweaks I made. With the very cheap AIO even with included fans and kryo paste I got 4.5ghz and memory could push to 3800 fairly stable if a little loud. Adding the Noctua fans and thermal pad I now can push the CPU to 4.7Ghz and the memory to 3800 stable. Even a little more. But have settled at a 4.6Ghz with PBO raising that on load and memory stable at 3900. Temps up to 85 degrees. And very quiet. It's so much more efficient that I now run Jellyfin on startup and can stream locally to 2 Amazon Firestick/FireTV devices while still playing WoW or any other game completely stable and quietly. ID-Cooling may be cheap but definitely great value - if paired with some smart hardware tweaks. I have used a few other AIO's and many air coolers over the years and always tweak/replace components such as fans for fun but for value I can't fault the ID-Cooling Frostflow.. And happy to see their Air Cooler was good value here too

This isn't the normal RX 580, it's the cut down China only one which has decent performance differences (Believe it's the 2048SP version, which is similar in performance to an rx 570 or worse). The 580 is pretty old now but can still play a lot of modern games, definitely not a good value though.
Do a video for Newegg as well, they’re much better than Amazon.
Something tells me a VBIOS update would've been beneficial.

Hell, if it's phones specifically I just check how many people actually wrote about failure points (if they provide actual details) and consider them for the price it costs - everything else is just wasted time one way or the other - reviews simply are abused easily, no need to look further than people complaining about subscription traps in the reviews for serverhosts that don't want to admit that they've chosen the wrong option for what they wanted.
I am not so sure if I agree as with care...you can derive what you need from the reviews on Amazon...mostly. Ssorta anyway.

And for designers who deal with fonts, It might be confused with "Segoe" since Segoe UI was the default windows font for a while
Next video idea: “Expert” vs AI. Someone at the office gives a target to hit (fps per watt, or specific benchmark requirements) and each contender put together a build to win.
I have Oloy RAM on my desktop and laptop and has worked great for years
Do it again, but put *gaming* infront of each hardware item. Its gonna be fun.
Example: Gaming CPU, Gaming PSU, Gaming Case..
0:25 no i got my latest update on 18.06.2024
This is a different, cut down version of the card aimed at China. So their driver versions might be different
@@amdkillaplaysNo it's just Googles top result shows "previous drivers" which you can see in the URL during the video, but 24.3.1 came out in March and 24.7.1 came out in July - they just split their drivers so POLARIS+VEGA only get bug fixes, RDNA will get the new features
Yes and why did he even say "do they even have driver support anymore." It literally came out in 2017 after the gtx 1080. And that driver searching tool I think doesn't show the latest version anyway.
24.9.1 available for rx580 today
Unpopular Opinion: RX 580 is still useful, the one you guys got is just a bad price
i bought a 580 2048sp or whatever from AliExpress 2 years ago for 55 bucks its still working just fine in someones computer.
That's exactly what they said - and how is it unpopular when everyone says that?
Not only bad price but bad variant. His is the RX580 2048SP with slower boost/memory clocks and only 4GB of RAM
I'm using ReDragon Perdition 2 mouse and K618 Wireless slim mechanical keyboard and I even changed the switches from blue to red. I'm so pleased with this keyboard that I'd rather buy another keyboard if this were to break , than any logitech , corsair or other more popular brands.
Not many slim , aluminium face plate/frame full numpad keyboards with short mechanical switches that work like charm, 20 macro keys, fully customizable individual RGB backlight per key and a volume wheel this thing is all I need. It even has 3 different connection types. 3x BT + 2.4g Dongle + USB-C Cable .
You CAN NOT Beat that for the price I got it for.
The mouse, isn't anything special but it's one of those MMO mice with 12 customizable keys. It's not wireless but it works for me and it fits my needs.
Interesting how the sponsored product system works. I specifically avoid them because buying ads on a marketplace usually means a product is a worse value, and quality
Uranium is a good alternative to cereal
Should've ignored sponsored products
Could've ignored sponsored products
But the point of the video is to measure how much of an impact top choices might have on relatively average consumers who do not know a whole lot about this?
looks at my Rx 580 still working
Just a few more months, you can finally rest and become a back up gpu
Upgraded my RX 590 to a 4070 TI this summer. Got lots of years out the 590 and it's still an okay card for a lot of games.
And happy to see their Air Cooler was good value here too
got a k70 used for $30 thing works mint, cleaned up nice
2:52 HE SAID THE DANKPODS WORD
I went to the comments to find this 😂 thank you! BAMF Linus, may he help spread the Dankpods lexicon to the masses.
You mean the Simpsons word.
The whole sponsored BULLSHIT should NOT be legal. Seems a little shady to me.
7 year old gpu... ha ha...me sat watching in 4k on my 2014 MSI red dragon GTX 970 with a fan that has a blade missing that vibrates the case when it gets to 50%... solved by putting it to 100%...👍👍 still game on it aswell...
I bought that keyboard and mouse combo for my son 2 years ago and it's still working fine. He was 9 years old when he got it and was so excited about the look and feel. I get that it's cheap, but I'd wager there are a lot of younger kids out there rocking these and will have fond memories of Minecraft and Roblox with those peripherals. They'll get nicer stuff when they're older.
EDIT: I see and appreciate that Mad Caddies tshirt!
11:50 red dragon does make some great keyboards, I’ve had my red dragon k552 for 6 years and it’s working great. The rgb is dimmer than they used to be but it’s holding up really well.
