Something similar happened to my mom once, she's a nurse and like, jeez, 30 years ago, when she was disposing of a needle someone else who "disposed" of one just before she did hadn't done it properly and she ended up getting stuck with the used needle. She had to go for testing periodically for a year to make sure nothing happened from it and she was very lucky nothing did and she was fine.
It's a good storyline, because cops have to deal with this issue all the time with needles and blood and bodily fluids getting spat at them. It's also really stupid because the person who needs an immediate blood test for HIV, HepC, TB, and MRSA is the person whose needle it was, and/or the needle itself. Yes, HIV is so amazingly powerful it will have infected Chen's cells enough to be detectable in her bloodstream only an hour after being exposed. In fact, you take antivirals, a blood test to make sure you don't already have it, and a repeat test in six months or so, and you and your partner have to use condoms for that length of time just in case.
wow that was crazy. I hope they fired that idiot for doing that. I am sure the amount of trauma that your mom went through was traumatizing. Thank god she was alright since there was no prevention meds for HIV at that time.
@@jarowan Very true! My pops got stuck once while searching someone down after the guy claimed he didn't have anything on him. Nothing like waiting for those test results to come back on day one, and again after six months.

As a nurse I also have experienced something very similar to this. I can say to you that you feel absolutely terrified, even if you know that when you signed for your job.
am in nursing school and last semester, my professor told us that if this happens there is a protocol where they administer medicine as soon as possible so you don't contract HIV or hepatitis.
@user-nw7om2br5cI believe they test for the antibodies that your body produces when it comes in contact with the viruses. Checking for antibodies on the needle doesn’t look possible (I can be wrong here as I’m still in early years of med school).
Well doing a PCR to detect viral DNA could be possible (like for some viruses, they take a swab and check for DNA/RNA, but I don’t know if it’s applicable in this situation. I’m just giving you a limited answer incase you didn’t get it anywhere else
“We can’t sit in waiting rooms” later that episode *Sits in waiting room alone while armed.*
I'm pretty sure that was Tim just bluffing to get an inexperienced nurse to put a rush on the tests for Chen - He truly cares about her in a mentor capacity and he knew it would tear at her mind if she had to sit filling out forms just to wait for even longer, hence the "You must be new", an experienced nurse would probably know there is no such protocol, Police are around civilians constantly and it's no different in a hospital
@@AFlyingCoconut he seems to bluff a lot, like when he pulled out his glock and said a fancy one liner to seem scary and intimidating, then when he got called out he just watched like a deer in headlights as Chen saved the day... only for him to then make a cocky remark about how he cant leave her alone for a minute... as if he actually did anything.

It could be a transient homeless person passing through
@@sitdowndogbreath here's the thing, though. I live in a really rural area, on the outskirts of a small town that doesn't even show up on the storm map on the news. Almost nobody knows the neighborhood is even there. I've only ever seen one homeless person walking down the road, and it was months after finding the needle. Otherwise your theory would make perfect sense. My neighborhood just isn't the safest place. It's common in LAPD culture to treat your "boots" or newly recruited Police Officers badly. At the end of the day in the show Bradford does have respect for Chen but she has to earn the respect, most importantly Bradford does care for her as well. So this TV show isn't terribly off.
It's a recruitment show, they're showing short and weakly guys that if they sign up, they will get all the benefits of being an actual big, strong, confident guy, without needing the genetics.
The state will hand them the vicarious power, in exchange for blind obedience.

Some cops are assholes, you just learn to deal with it and move on.
@CrazyKidI38l nobody said that stupid. I was replying to the main comment of a nurse being on a high horse.
nah that’s hockey pockey BS, wife’s a nurse she gets yelled and screamed at all day long and comes home crying that all the patients treats her like trash, also the waiting rooms are only for people who have appointments waiting for others filling out their personal info (that’s only if it’s your first time) and or are not emergencies shouldn’t have been brought to a hospital and should have been brought to a “doc in the box” aka MedExpress where you go for non emergencies, so if you show up with like a stomach ache ya you might wait a few hours, go to a medexpress you’ll be infront of a doctor in 2 minutes. but if you showed up in the waiting room even with a simple open cut they cannot let you go sit in the waiting room, so they’ll immediately bring you too a room to be helped. waiting in the waiting room with an urgent medical reason is all hollywood bullshit. doesn’t happen and has never happened in real life, and no matter how badly you treat the staff they’re held by law to treat you they cannot refuse treatment (unless giving a viable reason ) and if they do refuse treatment for no reason they can be arrested and sued for everything they’re worth. as long as your not belligerent an flipping out you can disrespect every person in the hostpital and you’ll still be treated the same, it’s an insult to all doctors nurses and hospitals staff too say they’d let petty emotions dictate whether or not they’d break the oath they took an would ignore a suffering person . the reason they became who they are is too help people , because they genuinely care about human life, an usually they’re a lot smarter than the people they’re dealing with, an they’re trained to deal with insufferable people so they know the persons just acting out of immaturity stupidity or fear so they act calmly and nicely because that’s how they were trained to handle out of control people, they were not trained to take out their own anger on patients , it’s a joke to even think that. you’d have to have the intelligence of a child to beileve that.
But you won’t see anything right away come back in two weeks just in case

Dude gave me that kind of attitude I would have said, "I'm sorry, I am new here but my lunch break just started."
More like stage fright, he looked everywhere with a slight desperation trying to find what to do immediately, panicked and treated her like a civie.
"I got stuck with a needle"
"Okay, haha. Let me get you seen".

That scenario with the grieving sister is effed. She'll be charged with attempted murder because she thought she was showing her brother mercy.
Maybe she just wanted his money faster.
He didn't sign a DNR, said by herself, so...
She could be just trying to kill her brother.
Also, she doesn't have the "crystal ball"...
That’s cool! They show the body cam perspective like it’s real, I like that. Never seen it before in a cop show.
My sister is a Nurse at a prison facility and one night she was taking out a bag of hazardous waste which is a bag full of needles that the nurses inject into the prisoners for medications or whatever it be. As she lifted the bag, she spun it in a circle to tighten up the bag n tie a knot. Little did she know there was an open needle somewhere in the bag and accidentally stuck her pinky with it as she was tightening the bag. (Usually needles are supposed to be capped before being disposed of for this exact reason) she was then sent on a paid leave for a couple days as doctors ran multiple test and kept an eye on her vitals. Luckily she didn’t catch hep c or HIV, the needle was clear of any disease and she’s back at work and healthy. These type of accidents are actually very common. Be safe people.
Why the hell don't they use sharps containers? Idk what part of the world your sister lives in, but where I'm from, doctors dont put needles in garbage bags, capped or not.
@@alexwu8077 I don’t work at the facility so I couldn’t even tell you why if I wanted to. She now works at an actual hospital though.
Been an officer for 4 years now... And that shit is is terrifying. Luckily, you can go and get what we call a "peanut butter shot" and even if it had HIV, in most cases it won't take hold. I remember when I got cut by a razor back when I worked in the prison... So stressful to deal with.
isn’t the girl that was trying to inject the bleach in her brother from “Lucifer” ?
no
What episode I want to watch on netflix
She’s the one who faked her kidnapping in “Lucifer”
@@mitica-mar hey!! They got to work
Happened to me while working on a drain where I got a needle in my hand. You just go to the hospital, get some medications to fight whatever may have gotten into your system and then you have to do a series of check ups for 3 months. Was told the chances are slim that anything would pass on and if it did the meds would kill
Pretty sure it take months for anything to show up in blood that’s why you get tested twice once right after it happens and then in 6 months time
Lmao I love the “incoming gunshot wound” line
Chen is hot. I don’t even watch this but she’s hot.
Yea that's why I'm here...or even watching this rn😂😂
Freaky
Almost all Asian are hot

@@vax20k27Um are u stupid what's the point of having a comment section
I grew up in a rough area and there'd be used syringes everywhere so you get into the habit of checking. Moved to a nicer area and completely lost that sense of caution and on returning to visit family, I got jabbed by a needle and had to get tested. Somehow managed to make the same mistake and got jabbed on another visit back home a month later and had to get tested again. When I went for my second test they did ask if I had anything about my lifestyle I'd like to disclose 🤣
"Incoming gun shot wound"
Jesus man has ZERO chill.
The way it should be.
U shouldnt have to be told twice.
I feel bad for the new hospital guy
I hope something as dangerous or deadly as this never happens to any of you making light of this tragic situation.
