- Bradford finds out about West's dangerous habit of 'freezing' during a big bust!
From Series 1 Episode 4 “The Switch”: Sgt. Gray, shakes things up a little by assigning the rookies to new TOs, partnering West with Bradford, Chen with Bishop, and Nolan with Lopez. Lopez takes Nolan to court, where he ends up chasing after an escaped prisoner which leads to a potentially career-making drug bust for the pair. Meanwhile, Bradford finds out about West is a “broken” rookie after freezes again during a dangerous shootout, and is unhappy with Lopez for lying to him.

@Leo Peridot California has strict gun laws and oh look at that the criminals don't care. They just get the weapons illegaly.
@Leo Peridot No. I get your point about gun control. But at the same time when you look at it, california having one of the strictest gun laws in the USA pretty much only affects the good gun owners who only use firearms for their protection. This makes it hard for them to get the weapons, but criminals such as gang members don't propably care about the gun laws. They will aquire a gun one way or another. So what im essentially saying is those who try to get guns for self defence pretty much can't or it takes a very long time, while the criminals will just obtain one illegaly.
@Leo Peridot Actually that's a pretty good argument. Criminals will get pretty much anything one way or another. I gotta agree with you on that one. And no i wouldn't really consider myself right wing that much. Only thing I am very right thing about is the ownership of Guns. Here in finland about 5 million citizens with about 1.5 million registered legal firearms (many sources on this one but its around 1-2 million) and we are one of the safest countries to live in. I think everyone should be able to have a way to defend themselves from for example: a home invasion. Here the self defence laws are pretty much "if you kill someone in self-defence you going to prison" most likely, and if you live up north or in rural areas it could take the police hours to arrive and by that time you could be dead. So i take that as a thing you (i presume you are american if not i apologize) guys have good. And no i do not own a firearm but i have gone hunting with my uncle a couple of times in the summer. I get the gun control thing it has been proven very effective for example in the uk. What i mean by "good gun owners" are people who buy a firearm legally and are responsible and take shooting courses and are responsible with their guns. And i think the whole gun control thing works in the UK because there weren't that many guns in the UK in the first place. And besides the UK has one of the highest knife crime rates in Europe. So if you ban guns, the responsible gun owners will lose their ability to protect themselves while criminals will either like we both said get guns illegaly one way or another. Or move onto other deadly objects such as knives. This is my opinion in the whole thing, i'd love to know yours man because im trying to be as open minded to new views.
This is why we have something called the SRT (Special Response Team) or SWAT... Not a few guys with pistols lol

Yeah, and patrol is still engaged while SWAT's rolling. Suspects are in a public location with civilians in the LOF and showing no signs of disengaging or fleeing, that's about as bad as it gets.

@@alexlyster3459 nah a lot of people have done tests and bullets go straight through a single car door if they are a 9mm or above. Cars are not bulletproof people they are made of thin aluminum. Always hide behind the engine block
King Of The Neeks Sorry for replying to a month old comment; but LAPD fits their patrol vehicles with ballistic paneling, which would stop the bullet.
There are ballistic panels behind the front doors of LAPD vehicles. Not sure about the back doors though.

I love how bullets seem to just be bouncing off the trunk lmao. Rifle rounds, and even 9mm would punch straight through. So if your ever getting shot at, hide behind the engine block not the trunk or middle
I believe police doors are reinforced to provide better cover. Part of the "police package" upgrade they do. Though may depend where.

Can you blame him for freezing? You went to a heavily armed residence with a Remington 870 and a handfull of Glocks. Patrol rifles must not exist in LA, you know, the place where 2 guys walked around for 2 hours wearing handmade armor and got away with it for an hour and 55 minutes.
From what I know that incident is what caused many departments to start carrying rifles in their patrol cars
Odd that nobody got the problem here... The whole crux of the episode is the " boot " getting over his fear of gun play... Running over someone who is holding a gun and thinking " im cured " is like being afraid of clowns and hitting one with your car... There are still clowns, and you might not be in a car the next time.

Anyone else notice that after Nolan takes the civi to cover he draws his gun and fires twice yet the slide doesn’t move once
He may freeze when the fullets start flying, but thus far Bradford seems to freeze when it comes time for him to be a actual, properly effective teacher.
You can't teach someone to be shot at. Not completely. All the training you can get in the world can never teach you to truly fight for your life. When it happens, you either fight or flight. A lot of people don't have the nerve for it.
@@Excalibur01 That is absolutely correct, but how he handled it as an instructor is what my concerns are. It is a difference in philosophies; his approach runs the risk of creating resentment between the student and teacher - actually most of the instructors do this with they inflict while being training officers - and in their line of work, that can cause big problems in the long run.
@@ExcentricDragon You right but again, some people don't have it in them to really be cops. Most go their entire careers without firing a shot and do parking tickets all day. And that's the problem with the police. Most are complacent who write tickets all day. West seems like a cop who is better at that and is filled with noble idealism. He is not realistic at all.

LAPD patrol officers have a vest under their shirt... It's level 3A so it still doesn't make sense but a vest is a vest in Hollywood.
Tact training when I was armed security my CO..shot live rounds over our shoulders..using a 22..while we shot steal targets intensely screaming in our ears..it ready us for live fire close quarter tactics..and stop lot of guys from this freeze up..

The depiction that every criminal with an “assault” weapon has access’s to full autos just shows the ignorance of this show. Every time you see an ar in the hands of the “bad guy” in this show it’s a full auto only to perpetuate the false ideal that all the rifles are full auto to those uneducated watching the show.

I think you're reading wayyy too much into this, dude. The bottom line is, full auto looks good on TV and in movies, which is why they show it. A bunch of guys firing semi-auto rifles at you is scary in real life, but looks kinda silly on screen.
