Great drive! How challenging is this car to drive if one never has driven a rear wheel drive car with such a happy tail? I have seen reviews where it was recommended to do a driver safety training where you learn to drift and other reviews saying this car is not dangerous if you just drive normal and responsible. what is your recommendation? is this car still equally fun to drive if you dont push it to small drifts on each drive?
You’ll be A-OK. I had a ‘17 as my first RWD. On dry and wet pavement, the only way to spin out would be stabbing the throttle in first or second gear mid corner (which you wouldn’t do in FWD or AWD really, anyway). In snow, make sure you put on good winter tires. The back end will slide out on tight corners, but it’s very predictable with snow tires. Practice some countersteering and throttle inputs in a parking lot first snowfall and you’ll learn quickly. The key is not to be overconfident, but not to be fearful either. I would also never attempt to drive an 86 in snow or slush or low temps without quality winter tires. I’ve since graduated to higher power RWD vehicles but am considering getting one of the new GR86s. They just look amazing and winter driving was a blast in the previous gen!
