      Sold ours.
They aren’t bad for say a young 19-20 year old, but it isn’t a good car for someone who has experience in quicker vehicles.
My 5th gen SS by example was 10 years older and bar none way more fun to drive and exhilarating.
If you aren’t a style queen, this isn’t a good car. If you plan to just rice it out, get one.
I found it lacking in performance, and lacking in exhaust tone. I also was annoyed by how many people mistook is for a Supra, which made me feel like a “broke.” Poser.
This car is great tier quality for younger audience who dream of a 30k sports car, but truly not aimed at someone who makes 200k+ a year.
It lacks in Raw power, but it makes up in the department of easy slides for how light it is.

@@alvingeroy3242 I guess different strokes for different folks. I had a lease on an M340 that recently ended and didn’t get this but pretty much it’s competitor or what people look at (MX-5). Granted think I have diff/ unique situation. I had a 3 year lease on my M340 but this past year I received a new job where I was lucky enough to pick out a company SUV to have full time or else might have bought my M340 despite some of the issues I was having with it and felt like the dealership were just money makers which most dealers are especially in service issues. But in that case I just wanted a fun little weekend car. I test drove a new MX-5 manual and was instantly hooked. Yeah it’s a Mazda but once I got past that I didn’t care. It truly is a drivers car and so much fun to drive. No it’s not the fastest, def in a straight line haha but it’s fun around corners and through the mountains/ canyons. I laughed when I saw the HP but they weigh less than a scooter it feels like (never liked something less than 300 HP). I’m not the youngest out there but I’m 31 years old and do decent for myself but didn’t see the point of spending twice the money for a play car and I plan on modding this car quite well performance wise so it will be fun and not break the bank like any aftermarket BMW parts would but that’s just how it goes for higher end sports cars. Having a convertible is fun and I’m loving it. I did look at a Z4 but no manual and hard after getting the M experience even though it’s not the full M experience. I will say I would love to have an M2 one day or C43 AMG when that can be a weekend car really. But I think it’s just what a person needs to enjoy something.

Absolutely beautiful video, I've got 2 questions. First, what camera are you using for the POV shots? The quality is superb, and compared to my brand new hero gopro 10, it makes my gopro look like a cell phone. Second question is how are you mounting your A7SIII in the passenger seat? I'm fairly certain those shots coming from the passenger seat POV are with the A7SIII, and just wondering how exactly you're mounting it / setting it up to have it so sturdy in your passenger seat?

Great drive! How challenging is this car to drive if one never has driven a rear wheel drive car with such a happy tail? I have seen reviews where it was recommended to do a driver safety training where you learn to drift and other reviews saying this car is not dangerous if you just drive normal and responsible. what is your recommendation? is this car still equally fun to drive if you dont push it to small drifts on each drive?

    • @brettlarson912
      @brettlarson912 ปีที่แล้ว +4

You’ll be A-OK. I had a ‘17 as my first RWD. On dry and wet pavement, the only way to spin out would be stabbing the throttle in first or second gear mid corner (which you wouldn’t do in FWD or AWD really, anyway). In snow, make sure you put on good winter tires. The back end will slide out on tight corners, but it’s very predictable with snow tires. Practice some countersteering and throttle inputs in a parking lot first snowfall and you’ll learn quickly. The key is not to be overconfident, but not to be fearful either. I would also never attempt to drive an 86 in snow or slush or low temps without quality winter tires.
I’ve since graduated to higher power RWD vehicles but am considering getting one of the new GR86s. They just look amazing and winter driving was a blast in the previous gen!

Potential buyers beware: this is fake sound from the speakers and rev hang is more than obvious. Just drove one last week and those are the only two big negatives for this car. General experience for a "driver's car" that can be bought in 2022/2023 is more than good. My personal opinion is - get an used sport car from early 2000s and get it sorted out for a grand total of price of the GR86. If it must be a new car, then there is no other option, which can be usable also for a 2 person vacation longer than just a weekend (looking at you, Miata/MX-5).

Something is off. Is it a low bit rate or low fps? Maybe a little bit of both. Stupid YT with their compression.

No it's just real 25fps, maybe you normally watch 60fps which is of course wrong but nothing is off.

That was def driver’s fault not the cars. There is zero rev hang in BRZs/86s. Driver was extremely slow with his clutch releases. I counted almost a full second between his throttle blips and actual clutch engagement.

@@carswithlukepov No question if I was buying new at this price point, this would be the car. I haven't driven a GR, but in this video it sounds a lot like the GT86, which I have driven and sounds like crap to my ears. In the end, I just wouldn't buy new at this price point. £30k gives you a lot of lovely used options. Call it £25k to have £5k in back pocket for faults and you can still buy, say, a 987.2 3.4 Cayman. The GR will be better in a few specific areas, but not much of a contest overall.

@@flat6croc I think it has potential to sound good with the boxster engine but yes right now it's really muffled. Sure you could also by an old cayman for that money but you won't have things like 10 years warranty like this has. Would be a tough call what to buy though.

@@flat6croc Here we go again with this 'lOoK aT wHaT uSED cAr yOU cAn BUy At tHE sAme pRice' crap. Compare the maintenance costs of the Porsche (especially with its IMS bearing issues on 987.1) to the Toyota, then talk kid. GR86 is lighter, with a smaller displacement engine and uses narrower tyres so consumable costs for the Cayman will add up to be a lot more expensive over the years of ownership.
