You picked the absolute best time and best year (super bloom year) to hike the desert section of the PCT. I remember the first time I visited California and visited the Mojave desert. Came back several years always in spring, April or early May to see the flowers and cactus in bloom. I visited Joshua Tree National Park about 4 times, Death Valley N.P. 4 times, Anza Borrego Desert State Park, twice, Yosemite N.P., Sequoia N.P., and King's Canyon N.P. all only once. I remember the thrill of seeing my first Joshua Tree, too, and the Sequoia Trees and other large Redwoods with the huge pinecones. I totally get your amazement. Everything is so different than what you see for normal scenery. I live in the Northeast where everything is green all the time. People (Natives) of Cal. would say, "But, you have trees !" and after years of seeing the desert weren't so thrilled with it, ha ha ! But I LOVED it. These are memories that you will remember for years to come. The sheer beauty of the landscape. The desert and the Sierra Nevada. Nothing like it anywhere else. Enjoy the rest of your hike. More surprises to come.

I'm jealous John. None of the females that visit my backyard have brought this year's fawns around yet (June 30th). I'm waiting but growing impatient. Last year I had three does visit regularly. One with a single fawn (think the mom was killed late August. Always saw the fawn without her after that. She survived the winter without her mother. Came around often all winter to eat), one with twins, and the third had triplets. Waiting to see what the total will be this year. (I have new neighbors that, I think, smoke on their back porch a lot and maybe the does are staying away because of that ? Not visiting as much as usual this year).
Great music, right one with the trail....How do you choose it where do you find it ? And that landscape is special....all desert like with splashes of paint 🎨 thanks for sharing

Ha ha ha - you make me smile and giggle :) my first laundromat experience in the US was in 1990 while traveling through the west for 3 weeks. Picking out the ones that didn't look scary was interesting ;) Keep on smiling!!!
Those pines around Big Bear are special as well, they are Pinus monophylla (AKA Single-leaf Pinyon Pine). Single-leaf Pinyon is the world's only 1-needled pine. The photo's never do show the real beauty of it do they? I was just up there last week and felt the same thing.
You don't have to mind coming into Big Bear dirty. We are used to it! The Vons has been filled with slightly smelly, puffy jacketed people for a few months now.
No retakes allowed, Big Bear and a Zero, Tisk Tisk. Sometimes being rebellious is a good thing. Make life more interesting. Your hiking the PCT, dirt is normal. You guys are having far to much fun. Enjoy your Zero. SAFE HIKING
