First year 4th grade teacher here! Thanks so much for your advice. I think presenting break time as a privilege will work great for my kids!

Empathy is huge. I realized on my first day of hybrid a couple weeks ago how much I didn't have to deal with disruptive behaviors for the past year! New territory for the kids and teachers for sure. Thanks for sharing your reflections.

Just discovered & love your content. The mantra we were all taught during pre-service teaching was "know your students." The biggest contributor to my positive classroom "management" is remembering that each one of my kiddos is a person first, and student second. We as educators are (usually/hopefully) able to leave our personal lives at the door, but these little people might not be so equipped. Btw, I'm a teacher in Ontario (Canada), so it's really interesting to hear the Ohio experience.

Just an update! I started officially teaching today! It went amazing! My kiddos are asking lots of questions as well as myself asking questions. Thank you so much for your videos! I don’t think I would have done this well if it weren’t for your videos! 🥰

I so agree. Change things up as needed so that you can help your students. Every time we have a break, even before COVID, meant resetting expectations and routines anyway, so use that to your benefit!

I’m a first year teacher and class points did not work for me early on. The kids love free time that I give randomly throughout the week and individual reward cards to buy things like lunch with teacher and a friend or candy. They love candy always!

Classroom management is all context, what works one time might not work again. Every group is different and that can be due to age, race, location, income, etc.. It also depends on your personality

Lets just say a student has their head down because they aren't feeling well, can you tell or do you always go about taking time to make sure they catch up?

In an education class, my instructor said it’s not a good idea to be too strict. Last year when I student taught pre kind garden is I would have an action getter to get the student's action getter I word have students say waterfall and I would say shark brake.

During the current pandemic we are in, having desks in rows is a safety protocol (at least that's how it is at the school I teach at). When students are sitting in rows they are not facing each other which minimizes the spread of germs just a little versus when they are talking to one another face to face.
