@ 4:22: The quieter you talk, the more the children have to listen to you” is brilliant and so true! One time I had lost my voice due to laryngitis. I literally had to whisper the whole day. The students (unknowingly at first) began to also whisper! Another time, when I had my regular voice, it was pretty loud in the classroom as the students were in a 2-minute break, allowed to talk. When it was time to move onto the next subject, I began to quietly talk. One student noticed and began to tell the others to quiet down. Worked like a charm!😊

Such great and priceless advices! Thank you very much. I'm a preschool teacher, my children are 4 and 5. My problem is not the classroom itself but it's one particular child who does his very best to distract others, interrupt me through bad behaviour, very stubborn...this breaks the learning process, affects my credibility to the rest of the classroom...I'm frustrated, tried EVERYTHING, talking calmly, shouting, praising him when behaving good for 30 seconds, talkedto his mother, divorced ,who is more disoriented and unstable than he is which explains a lot! .Now I feel losing control over my whole classroom. Definitely don't want this to happen. What should I do?

You could try making him your “helper” when he’s acting out. Have him come right up front by you and give him a task to do, whether it’s to hold the book you’re reading, help you measure or count out the objects to the craft, or to be your “eyes” and watch the rest of the class and at the end of the lesson or a certain amount of time, he tells you which student gets the “gold star” ⭐️ for listening the best. Definitely don’t resort to yelling or criticizing him because that just exasperates things, and yes, it makes you feel like you are losing control (because you are) and the kids will not respect you for it, and at that age, they may become afraid of you. Keep on heaping on the praise, and keep on stating things in a positive way, such as saying things like, “Daniel, I just know you can show me how we sit cross-cross apple sauce, hands in our lap like a grown-up boss” when we’re in circle time and I’m reading. I bet today you will be one of the best students in our group doing this! I’ll be looking at you from time to time, and I can’t wait to see you behaving!!” It’s ok to even have a behavior chart just for him and let him (or you) put a star or any kind of sticker up on it when you catch him being good. He will then be able to see his progress and from my experience, kids just love to meet their star goals!! Make a big deal of it when he fills in 5 slots, then slowly increase the amount from time to time until you get up to 10. Stay with that for a while then increase in small increments again. It’ll be sure to boost his self-esteem. I really believe that kids want to please their teachers, so keep looking for ANYTHING that you notice about him that you can praise. Don’t give up! Oh ya, 1more thing: make your expectations clear, don’t say anything that you can’t or won’t be able to follow through on, and say them in the “do this” kind of way instead of “don’t do this.” For example, Walk in the hall (NOT-don’t run in the hall.). Raise your hand when you want to ask a question (NOT- don’t interrupt!). We keep our hands to ourself (NOT- don’t hit others). Keep your voice quiet right now (NOT-stop talking). Say these things as firmly but sweetly as you can and always have the expectation that the student will (and wants to) comply. They want to feel safe with you and as you set those boundaries, they usually feel secure and safe. Yes, It can take a little longer for those strong-willed kids, or those that have dysfunctional family interactions going on, to comply and listen, but they need you to be that stable, loving, and unwavering grown up in their life leading them like they should be led. I don’t know if you’re still teaching now, as I realize this video is from a year ago, but these are strategies that I have learned over the years (in my 50’s now) and they work with even my own kids. (I still have 2 teenagers.) I wish you well in your journey and hope some of these suggestions help. 😊

I learned last year from a gal here on You-tube (channel name of One Fab Teacher) that it is extremely important that at the beginning of the year that we teach the students our procedures for doing things, and also to model for them what we want to see. You can then have the kids be the actors and role-play it. So if you have the strategy that when you say, “hands up!” you expect them to immediately stop talking, freeze, put their hand up, and put their eyes on you, you tell them this and practice it with them. Also, practice what it DOESN’T look like. You can get really silly with this and the kids seem to love it! At the beginning of this past teaching year, I implemented this with all of the procedures I could think of (what we do when we need our pencil sharpened, how we ask to go to the bathroom, what we do when we first enter the classroom, where we put our work when it’s done, etc.) and it set the tone for the entire year and helped tremendously with the flow of my classroom. I teach 4th grade, but
Miss May on the channel taught 1st. You can easily adapt this to any age level.

Keep watching these videos and anything else that you can find on classroom management. Watch other teachers. Then make a plan of some ideas to try when you have practicing. Practice is the key, when backed up with intellectual knowledge. You will get better every time. Make sure you journal after every time too, and write about what happened and what you could try if that situation happened again.

And Teachers don’t ever mock a student, the way they talk cause they will completely TUNE YOU OUT. That’s what I did when a teacher mocked the way I talk the second day I was in her class. I failed her class on purpose, I walked out of her class that day and every day after that I went to sleep. She was a High School English teacher. She did not help my English she made it worse. And I used some French words on her.

The thing is were are not a year one of the other years were year 5 and we know this but there not listening of course I don't do it and Mr D is so frustrated with it and he went so far to take away are lunch because the other students are talking once we missed 20 minutes of are lunch because others were talking and the kids get up in the middle of the lesson and go up too him he reminds them that they can't do it but they still do it and he's tried all of those things in fact i f we have 5 minute of our lunch he only let's us stay like one minute and he's tried all of those thing and they don't work and today he threatens to leave the school and that made me sad because it's that he is a good teacher just the students are talking during the lesson

After five years of being a kindergarten teacher I can say that I genuinely hate children. They are egocentric, mean and simply stupid. Their attention span and social skills are horrible. I don't see any meaning in my work teaching those basic things over and over again. It's boring af. You also need to act like a clown in order to get their attention. Hate this job and can't wait to leave and never have to deal with children again, also, this is one of the reasons I decided to stay childless. It's just not worth it.

    • @Kvitka777

Children are different, and lots of things in their behaviour depend on their upbringing. That is, their parents are responsible for their disrespect and lack of social skills.
It means that having your own children isn't necessarily an awful experience. You can and must shape your child's behaviour and skills, not the other way round.

      1. Jangan bicara sampai semua siswa diam. mereka belum siap untuk belajar
      2. Jangan gunakan semua energi Anda mengatakan mereka perlu mendengarkan Anda. buat mereka fokus sendiri.
      3. Anda dapat mencoba menelepon dan merespons dengan tindakan yang harus mereka lakukan. seperti angkat tangan saat mendengarkan. Atau sentuh hidung Anda saat Anda mendengarkan
      4. Membesar-besarkan nada bicara Anda. terdengar terlalu bersemangat atau kecewa atau apa pun suasana hatinya.
      5. Jeda setiap kali mereka mengganggu Anda.
Maybe this helps? Not sure if the words are right.

The reason why I had no education cause I couldn't get a teacher to listen to me at all and I probably hadn't one of the most special needs there is I was just told no matter what I'm not even on the spectrum and I think it's b******* I'm sorry if I swore on your length but it has to come out with I don't know I didn't watch much of the video I just feel like why I wasn't able to talk to a teacher who could have helped me and I couldn't have at least 2 more diplomas I know I couldn't have at least 1 of them I didn't pass like The 8th grade is surprisingly the only grade II had why wouldn't I had to listen to but you would not listen to me this isn't coming directly toward you I had to speak in a form right now I can't see very

Guess what I come off is I'm special means I don't mean this towards I hope apparently doesn't see this if they do let me know this is how I've was treated I was mentally treated but like a r***** and I was told I'm not even on the spectrum being autistic but I have really bad mobility issues right now I'm not telling specifically why it's specifically why it's a true story no one's gonna leave it I'm not blessed in this community at all I just wanna know why I couldn't be listening to Maybe I would have a high school diploma and good job instead of being a welfare

What are some the one of the things I have wrong with listening cause it was basically you're talking down to me and that's 1 thing you don't have to do I'm special names I know what I'm I'm saying but do you think automatically because you're educated I can't have 1 f****** word and I'm not mad at you I just think it's a bunch of s*** we're saying coming from a special needs student who didn't get the special education pass 1st grade got it in high school but I couldn't nothing but in trouble with high school why why would I have to listen to but had no It couldn't be the other way around for 91 once
