- Well everybody we have finally come up with a new guest this week....OUR BROTHER JOHN!!!!!! He's not a Beach Boy, he'll aways be a Cowsill, he's not an Action Skuller, he isn't missing, no more "Where's John?"episodes so what's up? Well he is here with us and we had a heck of a visit. He's got a little "I'm here to claim my legacy" kind of thing going on but this bro has a LOT so say!. So listen in as we go down the John Lane, talk over each other, and find out what he and his lovely wife (Vicki Peterson of "The Bangles" for the uninitiated) are up to. We also travel through some old Cowsill territory and do some revisiting about thises and thats. Hope you enjoy see you next week!!!!

I so relate to you all. My father was also an ex navy alcoholic, sociopath, narcissist, and I met a lady like five blocks from where I grew up with the same last name, so I thought it was too absurd that a relative could live that close and not know she existed, but next time I saw my dad I mentioned it and he said “oh yeah, that’s my aunt”. To this day I have no idea whether he was BSing me, or the lady was actually related. I didn’t get to know my aunt (his sister), or the family until after he passed away (I was in my late 30’s). On some extent I think I’ve made peace with my upbringing, but I really appreciate your honesty about your pasts, and admire your talents, Susan’s “Nanny’s Song” is one of my favorite songs, and grows in meaning as I get older and feel the weight of my mortality… So glad to see John back in the fray!
This is great having John on this podcast.
He has the best personality and sense of humor.

Sounds like John has Non-Disclosure Agreement with the BB. No matter. It was a fun episode! And I hope John joins the podcast whenever he's available.
Wowzers, Bob’s getting spicy and I am so here for it!
The thing about that BB singer is, it’s not just his voice-there’s been a very downward turn visually that came on relatively fast-like the past year or so, which ALSO coincides with that change he made in band membership…..Karma? Family makes music juju? 😉 Regardless, a little saltiness here can add to the mix, just like cooking! It’s your show-don’t dodge it, own it like John does!
But the chatter about the pros/cons in-ear monitors (it’s interesting to see who does not use them now. You go, girl!) and whose crew can be involved with which mix, was cool.
Always good to see and hear from John. That work on the house sounds big. Maybe a sib who knows about building can lend a hand. Love the school and sailing (yes Newport) stories. Listening to Revolver. Your fam had so much going on….with 6-7 sibs?,?!?! For an only child, it’s near unbelievable.
Glow-in-the-dark Jesus! Love it! Sounds familiar, same icons albeit a very different format.
I’m seeing you at HT soon, but especially looking forward to *your own* full show after the tour. Get John to check out small town Texas😂

This has been an absolutely wonderful Podcast. All of you having a fun time, especially laughing. John made my day when he "Screamed" like he did the time he was playing his drums, practicing somewhere! Brought back great memories. I salute all of you with one of my freshly made "Smoke Top Old Fashions!" Holy moly these dudes are rocking it with you! The best drink EVER!!!!

I've probably seen Vicki & John 10 times, starting with their opening set in New York City for dream syndicate in January. They are now up to playing 70-80 minutes sets. They are absolutely great. The Billy and Barry songs are fantastic; very much evocative of Ricky Nelson, The Everly Brothers, or Roy Orbison. John's voice is tailor-made for these songs; he's got a real authentic "high Lonesome" sound. Vicki is exquisitely divine as she is and everything she does. Their voices meld beautifully together. I always say that the formula is relatively simple; good songs, well played. That's what you get with Vicki and John. But you also get humor and charm, and for my money two of the sweetest musicians in all of rock.
I'm going to miss them like the Dickens when they go back to California.

You guys are such an inspiration, that Cow Way....and the lifelong professionalism. It would be very, very cool if you guys could do some gigs together. Might require at least one day of rehearsal 😁, but boy...those harmonies would come right back. It would be great to hear, a gift to The People. Love hearing those stories of when you were kids. Not mentioned, but regarding the Malibu house, don't forget about Graceland, there's that whole Title Fraud thing going on now. Good to check in on the place live.

Interesting that there are Cowsills in NZ, are they relations? I am a new fan of yours here in NZ and enjoy your music and podcasts. I was interested to hear about John's experience with in ear monitors, as I'm a drummer also transitioning to in ears from headphones and the old days of no monitors at all, just painfully loud speakers!
How about a Cowsills, John and Vicki, Smithereens bill? I can't deal with Robin or Marshall.

Hey I been wanting to ask you a question. When you played on the Ed Sullivan Show how did it feel to play on the same stage as the Beatles played just 3 years before. Susan you just seem like no big deal.
