How much does it have to do with Chernobyl? I'm a Chernobyl incident enthusiast and have no udea about this particular game.
It's set in the chernobyl forbidden zone. The short of it is that after the nuclear meltdown a second event happened 2006 that caused physically impossible anomalies to pop up and animals and people to mutate into bizzare shapes.
The second event is not directly related to the nuclear meltdown but were experiments that continued in secret due to the zones isolation until catastrophe stuck.
The heart of which was built within the nuclear power plant itself. (Trying not to spoil first game).
Since then the place has been a draw for treasure hunters called 'Stalkers' who go into this incredibly dangerous area to collect artifacts.
It's essentially a contained post apocalyptic setting within a world that is itself not ruined.

Considering it's being reviewed as a broken buggy mess, I'm not sure anyone is missing out.
