Lots of new people are getting into the hobby or returning after a while. They want some of these older sets and because they aren’t actively doing reprints, prices are going up. That on top of recent and upcoming sets being really good exasperate demand
I really appreciated your analysis of the market and what might reprints we might expect. The Pokemon Company International has really surprised me with how they've handled the supply of the SV era sets. They simply didn't print enough! And, to me, this was so unexpected because they have a long history of crashing the market with excessive reprints. And, ultimately, they were never really punished for crashing the market since Pokemon is still more popular than ever! Because of this, I didn't expect them to get more conservative with their print volumes, but here we are. I'm still expecting reprints of these recent sets, and I'm inclined to expect some pretty substantial reprints when they come. It's a great point that, given the level of demand today, perhaps they won't be able ramp up printing enough to truly tank the market. Only time will tell but thanks for the video!
I feel like they overprinted TF & PR, based on how available it's been. Maybe that is all the bandaid they need to focus on the future. Could be the strategy to overprint the mid sets to sort of always have stock even if it's low demand. That way, they can shift their attention during a bear market transition
Anyone new to the hobby I urge you to research what happened during the 2020-2021 market cycle, DO NOT FOMO on brand new sets. Pokemon will not allow secondary market prices to stay this high for NEW SETS in standard rotation, it will take time, but there will be a chance to get all of these sets at a good price.
I'm still sticking with buying PAL, TWM, 151 and for my own reasons SFA. When you only wanna spend 30-40 bucks not much better than an LGS with too much Shrouded

We really don’t know. For every sealed collector there is someone cracking packs chasing after something. What I do know is that sealed boxes in the wild only go down over time as boxes are lost or cracked.
Here is my guess of what sets and when they will be reprinted: February: Surging Sparks March-June: Slow waves of prismatic and 151 Temporal, Paradox, Paldea evolved, S&V base: No reprint, price is stable

Reprints are almost definitely coming as it makes too much economic sense for the pokemon company. We haven’t seen demand for product this high for a couple of years and a reprint would both allow collectors to buy back in and for investors to re-up in stock. Both of these benefit the pokemon company and there is no way they don’t capitalize on this.
If you had to choose between two options. Is it better to sell off a few sword and shield product to reinvest into scarlet and violet in greater numbers, or continue to hold the sword and shield?
Good question, tough call. Depends what Sword & Shield you are talking about. If you have some of the better sword and shield boxes I would NOT liquidate those. If we were talking about this 6 months ago I'd say go for it, and that's exactly what I did. I liquidated a bit of my SWSH collection that I'd earned a nice return on to put into VERY cheap SV before it started to run up and it worked out well.
Reprints never affect value past a few months. I’m all in on surging and twilight masquerade. Name one set that hasn’t doubled/tripled in a few years after release. Even steam siege is worth over double 😂
I wish that were the case but historically reprints have hurt the market if they are large enough. I also believe the type of people in the market matter. Those of us who actually like the product aren’t spooked by reprints. Scalpers and short term investors who don’t care about the product will get spooked.
I wouldn't worry too much about reprints i would worry more about how much sealed will exist in the future and the fact that ct scanning sealed product is still a thing
You should research the sports card sealed market. No way pokemon is expensive even with surging sparks hitting $200. Once our generation is older they will wish they had these prices.
I collected sports cards heavily as a kid and my collection is worth almost nothing now. Players go out of favor and value diminishes greatly. This then requires timing to make a buck and I don’t want to time or mis-time something.

151 reprint would be great. I have a bunch to open up down the road but I'd love to buy more to open now. So much fun. However, we won't get reprints of all those sets. I think the big problem is this idea of investing in pokemon cards. So many people buy up product to sell for more later. The same happened with a lot of SWSH. The amount of that product that sits unopened is likely unfathomable. You talk about the price of a card making it more fun to pull, but you're not thinking like a large portion of the market which is kids. If the young crowd can't get a hold of the sets then PC is damaging themselves long term because those people will be less likely to return later. I feel like the entire tcg world is investors buying for investors down the road. Normal people aren't buying umbreon vmax for 1200. Normal people aren't buying evolving skies booster boxes for 800. The whole market is now an investor circle jerk.
Very curious what will happen with 151. They may have made the choice not to go back and reprint the ETBs or we have a big wave of them coming. It’s odd given they went back and reprinted crown zenith a bunch of times.

Paldean Fates was $39 last week on Walmart. Then it went to $44 until about yesterday. I looked today and it's up to $54.

Paradox can wait, temporal cannot. Temporal price will be up against PC/MSRP before year's end.

I don’t believe so. We do see restocks on release day for a set but that’s been the case for awhile now.
